Can I move through a red light to allow an emergency vehicle past me? 14 Jul 2012 (Ask HJ)
I recently stopped at a red light and saw in my mirror an emergency vehicle with flashing lights approaching in my lane. I knew that I should move out... -
BMW new 1 Series - new 1 series, gieven to me with a fault 31 Mar 2012 (Forum)
We called up again, and said this is unacceptable, I had children in the car, we have speed cameras, and it is unsafe to travel with the car. I said I would bring the car in the following day. The service department said they had no availability until Wednesday,m which I said was not happening, and I wanted it fixed asap. -
Ford Fiesta Saloon - Parking warning - Royal Albert Hall, Imp College 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Their photo shows that they must have been on the crossing, but not in enough detail to support a prosecution. From the shot, it looks like the camera is on or near the top of the van, on it's nearside. So, if you have booked parking at Imperial College, DO NOT QUEUE. Just keep driving round or try to get there after 6pm. If you do see this van parked on the crossing OR on the zig zag lines, taking pictures, please take a photo wit5h your mobile phone, and report it to the Police. -
stopped by police taking pics of my car[Read Only] 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I took delivery of a new camera this morning and decided to take it to a local picturesque village to try it out. I took some pics of some pretty cottages, a church, some hanging baskets, a boot scraper, an old victoria distance sign saying "London 26 miles", etc. -
Wrecks to Riches -DiscoveryTurbo Channel 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Also the labour charges they get from their bodyshop always seems pretty low compared to the amount of work and number of people seen doing stuff. I expect thebodyshop is hapy to do cheap work while thre is a camera running From watching the show I get the opinion that for the average Joe Public it is not easily possible unless you are in the motor trade and/or have your own workshop and bodywork/mechaical skills Does anyone think it ispossible to economically repair a Cat-C or D write-off, and what is its true market value compared to undamaged ? -
The road safety act - new laws 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Speeding Points will now be graduated from 2 to 6. Very high speeds will still result in a court appearance and likely ban. Camera Detectors and Jammers will be banned, other than GPS-based systems. Section 172 offences of failing to nominate the driver will now carry 6 points, so there is no benefit to a driver whose speed was up in the 6 point range refusing to name the driver and thus get away with only 3 points. -
Great road safety ideas from other countries 27 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Spain still has radar-activated red lights in the approach to many towns and villages: exceed the speed limit and you get a red, but keep to 30 (50 km/h) and you sail through on green. Observance is not quite 100%, but linking it to a speed camera would do wonders for the tranquility of sleepy villages. 3. Four-way stops are common in the USA and South Africa and they work well on quiet junctions where a roundabout would be a major upheaval. -
any - X marks the motorway lane on a hot day 11 Jul 2018 (Forum)
So, hard shoulder mergency only all the way, outside lane red X, and hundreds of cars completely ignored the outside lane X and drove through not one but two red X's in succession, only to have to move over to pass said stranded vehicles maybe 400 yards after X number 2. I didn't notice if the two gantries we passed had cameras but did wonder if red X lanes might automatically trigger photos of transgressors, i do hope so. Aside from that, it was extremely hot which might help explain the two child like drivers who managed to have a right tussle, due to some perceived slight at a slip road from what i could see, their undertaking and cutting up of each other carried on for about 3 miles on the A45 Northampton section (as i was in the lorry i saw most of this performance of half wits doing what half wits do), with presumably child like rantings at one another when they got side by side at the same speed for some times several times, thankfully more mature heads were in abundance in other vehicles who gave these two fools a wide berth so if they did make a mess of it hopefully only those two would be involved. -
Analysing Road Accident Statistics 18 Sep 2011 (Forum)
A low percentage considering the rhetoric around speed and the money poured into preventing it. And stats show road death numbers have largely stagnated since speed cameras were introduced, after a sharp fall during the 80s. The WHO ranks nations on road deaths per 100,000 inhabitants and we come out 5th best, with the better ones being three minor islands and Sweden. 3.59 per 100,000 a year approx for the UK. 4.5 for Germany, 4.7 Ireland, 5.2 Australia, 6.9 France and a staggering 12.3 for the US. -
Cars people race 17 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Because of traffic I got passed him and for the next couple miles the guy sat on my bumper trying to get passed, he forced his way through by making other cars on the other side of the road brake, then he braked had forced me to stop and shouted at me for nearly running him off the road. After that incident I had a camera fitted but it has broken and I had not had the time to take it back When in the Mazda I occasionally get raced off the traffic lights by a eager 17 year old in his Coras, but rarely as aggressively as I do in the Alfa Also why are people more inclined to let some makes of cars out of junctions for example then others When driving the Jag people let me out rarely, same is true off my Probe I once owned, yet again people seem more willing to let the Mazda out? -
Fountains of the North - Trafalgar square in dreams 23 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Of course - you could always spin a positive out of it and install a DNA sniffer into one of the fountain drains. There are already a ring of CCTV cameras around the Bull Riing - so it seems a shame to waste the DNA being so freely given. Best hold your breath though when you feel that fountain aerosol on your face from 50 yards away as you try to get into Costa Coffee, across the `run off` river - you don`t know how often they change the water. -
Positive (only) aspects of UK motoring 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I have been reflecting on the positive aspects of motoring in the UK - contrasted with elsewhere. Massive efforts have been made to allow the motorist to be mobile - regulations, cameras regulating the speed of idiots - and allowing regular motorists to drive normally - and so on. The much maligned Heath And Safety - risk assessments - underpinning and enhancing our life experiences. -
Party Transport Policies 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Drivers will be allowed to drive over roundabouts when there?s nothing about. This will make driving through Milton Keynes much more fun. All speed cameras will be abolished and replaced by a new device fitted to your cars which will automatically slow down to the speed limit when driven though an infra-red beam. This will also apply to police cars; their device will be set to 5 mph though built up areas. -
Backroom Predictions for 2004 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
So here is my guess at the top threads we will see in 2004; with some typical posts. S**** C****** (yes, that\'s \"Safety Cameras\", which is on the swear filter for the simple reason that they are burger all to do with safety and everything to do with revenue - ND) The police should spend less time trying to catch burglars - after all they have to pay for their drug habit and rarely hurt people(the burglars that is) They should concentrate on speeding motorists who are responsible for thousands of casualties! -

Byers questions Final part (hopefully) 2 May 2002 (Forum)
Safe road design Current Government efforts seem to be fixed upon a strategy to encourage speed cameras and to minimise any efforts to design out dangers on the road. The view of the electorate is that it the Government find it simpler and more lucrative to fine drivers, than to improve the basic safety of the roads. -
Help me narrow down these choices for me please! 23 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Diesel engines are good Merc C Class 2016+ ; slightly more roomier in the back than the 3 series, and more bells and whistles as standard than the 3 series (i.e. reverse camera etc). BMW 5 Series 2015+ ; very solid engines, much more spacious than a 3 Series or C Class. Surprisingly cheaper/more available used than the 3 Series or C/S Class. Some even cheaper than 3 Series.
