  • Citoen HDI "bang",smoke, poor running 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Heading for Portsmouth last night, Citroen 1998 HDI 2 years old 29000, A3 exit on M25, loud bang from engine compartment (felt through bulkhead by passenger). Engine still runs, but very smoky and intermittent loss of power with occasional noise that sounds like a miss functioning servo.
  • running in, please pass 15 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Amazingly tonight I saw an elderly gentleman in an '04 reg Skoda Fabia with the cardboard sign in the rear window that I haven't seen for years.. 'running in please pass' Apart from raising a wry smile, the question I ask is is this really neccesary anymore? do you really need to treat a brand new car with kid gloves anymore? Run the engine below 4000 rpm for first 1000 miles and no heavy braking for first 500 so you can bed in the brakes?
  • 2001 Ford mondeo 2.0 tdi - Car feels like it run out of diesel 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
After 4 weeks did the same thing. They now say it needs new injectors. I dont beleive it. Did I need a new pump and why does it run fine for 4 weeks. When it cuts out, if you wait 30 mins, it will start and run for a time. Urgent reply required before I spend more money on it.
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 00 1.4 lumpy running and cutout on warm-up 4 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My daughters Saxo has the following problem: When a cold start is done, it fires up and runs OK, but after it has been idling or driven for a short while it coughs and splutters and runs really lumpy and throwing out black/grey smoke and sometimes cuts out. It seems as though it is being 'overchoked' just as an old car with a manual choke would have run with the choke fully out after starting it.

  • Honda HRV 1.5 eHEV - Auxiliary battery running flat 22 Mar 2024 (Forum)
But after up to six repeat experiences when the car is left in the garage for a week or lots of local runs , owners are resorting to buying a “ jump start “ pack. Surely the cars are not “fit for purpose” . But does this problem affect other Hybrid cars ? Ive not seen many Toyota Prius taxis stranded and they do lots of short runs .
  • Any with an electric rad fan - How long does your fan run on after engine-off? 2 May 2020 (Forum)
This is not satisfactory and I hope to be able to restore temperature switch control presently, but meantime, I'm wondering how long I should leave it running after switch-off.. Never really noticed. Perhaps yáll didn't either, and if yiou aren't driving much in these trying times it'll be a while before you do. I'm thinking it shouldn't be long because I tend to leave it on all the timeso  its likely over-cooled while running,
  • Firefox and adware 18 Feb 2016 (Forum)
When I open a new window, and navigate to a link, clicking in the new window switches to a new tab displaying an advertising site. As far as I can see the MS Edge browser is okay. I have run AdwCleaner with no programs running, and rebooted. I have run a MalwareBytes tool. Neither found adware. I have Kaspersky installed and running. And yet the adware is still present. I cannot see in the installed apps list anything iffy.
  • Mazda 2 - New car to run in 20 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I want to maximise the performance and economy for the 3 years I have the car.  After that I'm not bothered.  They used to make running in oil once upon a time but I have not seen it for years, anyone know if anyone still makes it?  This is the first new car for many a year Cheers.
  • Daewoo Lanos 1.6 petrol. - Daewoo Lanos running rich and 'shunting' 6 Jul 2010 (Forum)
This was repaired by myself - head off, all valves checked, 2 replaced. New belt, new gaskets, and full service whilst I was in there. However, whilst it now runs, it is running quite rich. At low throttle openings it 'shunts' or kangaroos really quite badly. There are no warning lights on the dash. With a WOT, it is quite hesitant up to about 4k rpm and then goes like a rocket.

  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 96 1.2 cutting out after running out of fuel 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)

  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Loose breather pipe and running on 3 cyl 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I haver a strange problem with my car sometimes after filling it up with oil it runs very rough on idle but on all four cylinders but after a few minutes the revs drop down to 600 and then it appears to run on 3 cylinders as the engine shakes vionetly. I have noticed each time this has happened the brather pipe has been loose (it is too short) I need to replace this but can anybody explain how the oil cap breather pipe can cause major idle problems?
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - (98-05)318i 2.0 Auto ASC Unit continuously running 26 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The ABS/ASC Warning lights appeared on the dash and when I pulled over and stopped, the ASC unit was running all the time even with the keys removed from the ignition. The only way to stop the unit running was to unplug it, removing fuses did not work. I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems or some idea of what may cause this ?
  • FIAT Panda 4x4 (2005 - ) - 1.2 petrol, Rough running in freezing weather 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I'm now entering the third Winter running my Panda 4x4 with the 1.2 FIRE petrol engine. Whenever the temperature drops below 0C. the engine will not rev properly for the first few seconds running the car from cold. It's nothing more than a minor irritant.
  • New car battery run down - Ford Focus 14 Apr 2007 (Forum)
,When I went to view the car( before I paid for it) the car the battery was flat but the dealer said they would re charge it for me I was away after that and did not use the car for ten days. Now after a week and ,I must confess, trying to set the sat nav up, with the engine not running the battery is flat again.. Should I ask for a new one under warranty or will a few long runs charge it more fully. The AA who got me going said the alternator was working correctly Thanks alan

  • Peugeot 306 1.6 radiator fan always on 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Arrived back at car to find battery flat due to radiator fan running all the time. After recharging battery and starting the engine the fan stops, but when the ignition is switched off the fan still runs fast. The fan stops when the ignition is in the on position.
  • New Car - Running It In? 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I've just bought a brand new Audi A4 - and am unsure if I should 'run it in' for the first few hundred miles? I've never had a brand new car before and wasn't given any guidance from the dealership when picking up the car (admittedly I was far too excited to be thinking about asking sensible questions).
  • Running on empty 17 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I know it is a silly and possibly hazardous thing to do but it seems to be a habit harking back to my younger years when cash was tight that I cannot get out of! Saying that I have only run out once many years ago, perhaps I need to run out in the middle of nowhere and suffer the subsequent hassle to give me the kick up the backside I need. Anyone else out there like this?
