  • Vauxhall Zafira 1.4 Sri turbo auto - How is a turbo with an auto box? 12 Oct 2024 (Forum)
My wife and l like automatic petrol engined cars in a roomy MPV bodystyle, not SUV. Over the yaers, we have got used to Japanese cars with approx 2 litre engines, but to get one now you have to either 'buy old' or 'buy import'. Today we tried this 2016 Zafira.
  • VW Touareg - 8 month old car new/used parts for warranty repair 28 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I have a 8 month-old VW Touareg, bought new, now done 7,000 miles. The panoramic sunroof has developed a leak and needs replacing. The dealer carrying out servicing/warranty work for me isn't the selling dealer - but they want to fit a complete re-manufactured sunroof under warranty.
  • Which 3/4 year old 7 seater? 16 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi there, I have four kids aged between 6 and 11 and am in the market for a three or four year old 7 seater and have a budget up to about £10,000 (preferably less). I have owned a 2003 Chrysler Grand Voyager (from new) and a 1997 Renault Espace (current car). I am considering:  2006/2007 Renault Espace 2007 Ford S-Max 2007 Ford Galaxy I would like a car that has decent seats in the third row and not the flimsy ones you find in the Vauxhall Zafira.
  • Peugeot 207 sport diesel 2008 - oil change 11 Aug 2010 (Forum)
i had my car serviced 5 days ago and as part of that service the oil and filter was changed. After 2 days i checked my oil level and found the oil to be black this made me think that the oil had not been changed.I took the car back to the garage and asked them if this was normal they said it was normal as when the oil is drained not all of the old  oil drains out of the engine so when the new oil is added it mixes with the old old that was left in the engine thus causing the oil to look black they said this happens with diesel engines is what they told me correct or not.
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - What do I do about rust on a 4.9 year old car? 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)
    2) What do I do? I plan to keep the car. If it was just two or three spots, I'd deal with it myself. But it isn't. How much chance do I have of claiming on the Ford anti-rust warranty?
  • Volkswagen T2 Bay Window (2000 - 2007) - Bleeding brakes on old car without foot-pedal 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi - have to bleed the brakes on a 1972 camper van but don't really want to depress the footpedal too much for fear of damaging the seals by pushing into rough places they have not been for years and ending up with a very expensive master cylinder replacement - this happened on another old car I had. I think you used to be able to get a cap and tube that would pressurise the reservoir with a foot pump or if I recall by connecting to the spare tyre. Sure I can eventually work something out but this may be a common problem with a solution so any advice would be very welcome.
  • Car Warranty 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I am on the lookout for a newish 2.0 litre Mondeo (pref diesel). However I am still a little confused over the Ford warranty. If I buy a year old Mondeo will it definitely come with the balance of the three year Ford Warranty. If it is slightly over a year old will it depend on if it has had it's yearly Ford dealer service. The cause of my confusion is when I recently attempted to part/ex a two and a half year old Focus.
  • Old estate or new? 7 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Well I need an estate car (large) and i have a couple of options. I've got abot 5,000 to spend. What I would like is a Toyota Camry p reg or so 3.0 liter all options. BUT I can't find any at that price. I found a N reg for 5,500 seems alot for a car thats 7 years old.
  • Driving old clunkers. Why not? 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Car was running very smoothly and sweetly - only slight annoyance was the the imposition of a new 40 mph limit where it was previously 60. Dunno why folks buy brand new cars. Wheel in each corner and one to hold, what more is there?
  • Temporary Insurance 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I had a bit of a runaround which I disposed of recently, and cancelled the insurance, but as it expired in May I got no refund. No matter, I've now bought a new car for my wife, and want to insure her old one for a couple of months. If I'd been sensible and not cancelled the policy last month I could have transferred her old car to it - but sensible I'm not! I know from past experience if I add the old one as a temporary addition to my existing policy, I'll be charged about £60 per month, on a month to month basis.
  • Nissan Note - Breakdown cover for older car 6 Mar 2025 (Forum)
We do have another car which is just 5 years old so a policy which covers both cars would be ideal or maybe one providing personal cover. Many thanks in anticipation of some advice.
  • 'Wrong' reg on insurance - car tax 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The tax disc reminder, MoT and V5C all have the new registration number but, as mentioned above, the insurance certificate still refers to the old number. I still have all the paperwork (including the old MoT certificate) returned from DVLA which shows the old number and stamped as "Cherished transfer re-registered as ....(new number)". In my experience, post office counter staff can be 'jobsworths' when it comes to car tax - seemingly suspecting that you're trying to pull a fast one.
  • Staying power 28 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I like to take notice of older cars to see which makes go on and on but still look tidy. I wonder which cars are best for long term ownership, I guess it will be the usual suspects like BMW or Volvo, you see loads of older ones of these but rarely see an old Mondeo or Citroen Bx, lots of VW's of old around but few Cavaliers.

  • any comeback form a trade in? 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi,  I've been having a few intermittent problems starting my old car smoothly (i.e. it turns over for a while before it fires - nothing too bad, but indicating something amiss), so thought the time was right to get a new car.  Got a new car from an independent dealer and traded my old car in.
  • Transfer of Reg Nos 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I just got myself a new reg and was wondering what happens when I come to sell my car and transfer it to the new car. I understand the process about transferring my new reg to the new car but what happens to the old car as it won't have a reg no anymore? As I understand it, once I've put the new reg on my car, the old reg becomes void.
  • ANY Rubber Banded OHC? - Longitudinally Split Old Cambelt to Replace? 6 Aug 2025 (Forum)
The car was a pain to change, but I can't remember anything specific on it offhand that would prevent this, though its probably not very easy. Anyone tried this?
  • Sold "new" premium tyres that are 4.5 years old 7 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I bought 4 new Pirelli tyres from my usual garage here in Fife, Scotland.  They have ruined the ride of my otherwise fine car to the point I thought the suspension had a problem, other garage checked and says it is fine but the tyres are 4.5 years old when supplied. The garage that supplied the tyres claim that the supplier has told them that they can sell tyres as new that are up to 7 years old as long as they havent been used.
