Ford Mondeo, diesel 2ltr, 2011 - vibration / shuddering when applying the brakes 2 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi, any advice appreciated, I bought the Mondeo in march this year with 40k on the clock, still has a year of manufacturers warranty left, in june the clutch went (10 days after the 60 day dealer warrant ran out) only sign was the revs climbing at 2500rpm for a second then back to normal, this happened a coupe of times then the cluch went, took it to a ford garage and they said the clutch was burnt out and recommended that I change the slave and the DMF, £1400. ouch and not warrantable, now a couple of weeks later there is a strong shudder / vibration coming up through the steering wheel when the brakes are applied, the dealer I bought it from and the ford garage that fixed the clutch both say that is warped discs,(poss £450.00 to fix) Ford warranty say they are not warrantable parts, if anyone knows what the problem could be and where I stand on warranted parts, and what come back I may have against the dealer I bought it from (A Clark in Edinburgh), I feel anoyed that im spending alot of money on a car I have only had for 4 months, and when I get someone on the phone they are quick to pass me to someone else or fob me off. -

alternative tech - KERS for the road 5 Sep 2012 (Forum)
There is a definite trend for downsized petrol engines. But these seem to have a lot of the tech that gives diesels a bad name....turbos, dmfs, direct injection etc. Then there are petrol / electric hybrids which carry a large weight penalty and I think time we show them not to be all that green once raw material sourcing for the battery is taken into account Why doesn't anyone make a modestly petrol engined car, of (say) 80bhp with an in-parallel electric motor which provides transient (say) 50bhp power boost for just (say) 10-20 seconds at a time? -
Golf 1.6 TDI Match Mk6 - Failure of Golf MK6 Clutch & Flywheel 24 Apr 2012 (Forum)
This problem was a shock given that we don't live in a hilly area, my wife has been driving for 27 years and not burnt through any clutches.Indeed her last car a BMW 3 series lasted until 120k miles before it needed any clutch maintanance In looking at the clutch it is a sealed unit, so they don't really look at what might have gone wrong inside it, yet they have taken the easy excuse of driver error without looking any further! There is some evdience of DMF failure causesing problems on VW vehicles so why they are so difficult remains a mystery. Indeed the dealer wanted to help - but has their hand tied by VW then moaned about this was how Toyota was beating them on customer service rankings. -
Any - Most reliable car/cheapest to run to high mileage? 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I'm currently running a 2006 Focus TDCi, which although fairly fuel-efficient (50+mpg), running from 60 to 150k miles has so far cost, apart from usual service, tyres etc: £1,000 - DMF/Clutch £600 - turbo £500 - injector service So the idea that diesel's are great & cheap to run is nonsense - great on a company car/3 years, not for private use over an extended time. -
Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCiGhia (06) - Advice wanted -had car 5 weeks and clutch is going 24 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I haven't been able to get it to my usual garage to have a look yet but I'm pretty sure the mechanic will say the clutch and/or DMF will need replacing. Not that I'm a pessimist or anything... Am I right in thinking that the dealer I bought the car from should get this fixed for me, under Sale of Goods Act? -
Can people drive competently any more? 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I loaded some new large vans today, didn't need any fine clutch control or skill, as soon as i stopped the hill hold function came into play, very clever but is it going too far. I suppose premature clutch wear and the astronomical cost of DMF's is something to do with this, we've all seen white van man (among others but he's a prime example) riding the clutch at uphill junctions or in traffic....seemingly incapable of proper vehicle control without abuse, i suppose the hill hold will save the poor dear struggling with that pesky handbrake...or is this the pre runner to wholesale electric handbrake's? -
Skoda Superb Estate II 2.0L TDi - 2015 - DSG 6 Speed Semi Automatic - Clutch Wear & Replace 4 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I have quite a few manual clutch changes under my belt, transverse and inline but have never done a semi automatic. So a few questions: Should I change the DMF as well as its a pretty pricey part and I cant here any knocking or bumps when gear changing so assume the shocks are good? Are there any gotchas or things to be aware of, like software / calibration updates to an ECM? -
Ford Focus Saloon - Limp Mode at 3k Revs - Focus 1.6 TDCI 21 May 2019 (Forum)
Hi All, I have an '07 1.6 TDCI Focus that I've had since 2010 and now has 172k on the clock. It's been well looked after and serviced and maintained regularly, still on its original clutch, DMF, DPF, injectors and Turbo. It's started the annoying habit of going into limp mode as it approaches 3k revs, making overtaking manoeuvres somewhat scary... If I let the revs dip back to around 2k it seems to sort itself out without having to turn the engine off. -
Kia ceed vs ford focus 21 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I've found one of each within my budget and now I'm just dithering as I had set on the ceed. I know the focus used to DMF issues, is this still the case? I've also read somewhere that the DPF would need replacing at 70,000 miles? I also have been told several times that 1.6 tends to suffer from fuel pump failure hence why thisbis the 1.8. -
Mondeo 2014 2.0 TDCi 140 ZBE - Mondeo TDCi - next 50k miles? 1 Feb 2017 (Forum)
What should I look out for in the next year or so? Routine servicing etc. I know about but what about cambelts / DPF failures / DMF issues? The cambelt is rated for 125k miles but I seem to hear of them going much earlier. How about the DPF? I try to keep it clean by my manner of driving and using only Shell Nitro diesel. Any pointers most welcome. -

Buying advice needed: Family car - thinking ahead 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
During the life of the next vehicle I expect to do university runs. What I want: * A vehicle which avoids mechanical sillyness (DMF, DPF, cam belt...) which kills me after year 5. What my wife wants: * a nice interior. I'm looking at Toyota Avensis in petrol, manual transmission. -
Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 - Petrol vs Diesel 2WD 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Here's some info around our useage- - This will be a long term purchase, not a change after 3 years (DPF's and DMF's scare me on the diesel once it drops out of warranty.) - It won't do more that 10k miles per year - The car will cover more stop/start A-road driving than motorway (Motorwary will just be on family trips at weekends) One on hand the diesel has some nice grunt low down in the range so you're not changing gear all the time and the turbo gives you good power when you need it. -
vw golf mk4 gt tdi 150 6 speed 2003 - low oil capacity, engine code, remapping 2 Feb 2013 (Forum)
hi all, i recently bought the above car, it has 166k but had a new engine, clutch and DMF at 105k. I have changed the oil last week for a vw specific 5w30, only around 2.5 litres fell out (still quite clean), while filling with 2.5 litres shows as slightly over on the dipstick. I have had conflicting ideas of how much these should take, it is on a 03 plate. -
various - VAG CR diesel maintenance costs 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Diesel belt-cam changes are £500 a pop, every £60K or 4 years. So budget £1500 for the 10 years Is it the DMF that will be the big expense then? It feels like HJ's £5000 in repairs is for the unlucky minority, who might use their diesel car on repeated short journeys, which wouldnt be the case for me. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0 3rd gear syncro "weak" 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The clutch on my 2003 Mondeo TDCi (130) 6-spd estate failed over the weekend and I have just got it back after having the clutch, DMF and slave cylinder replaced along with a major service. The garage, when handing the car back said "Do you know that your 3rd gear syncro is weak?" and went on to explain to me what the symptoms were.....when engaging 3rd gear during normal driving it "crunches" - the other 5 forward gears are fine as is reverse (though I believe it doesn't have syncromesh). -
Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDI Poor Economy / Low Power 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Another possible indicator to the problem is that the engine seems to shudder occasionally at around 1500rpm under light acceleration in the upper gears - I appreciate this might be down to a worn DMF. I can hear the turbo quietly spool up under acceleration with the window open, the engine is nice and quiet be it hot or cold and I'm not aware of it pumping out clouds of black smoke under load etc, so any pointers would be good given I've been led to believe I should be achieving much better MPG than the above. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 06 2.0 TDCI - Advice on common problems 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone advise of things I should ask about, look for under the hood, or look for while road testing that would reveal a lemon? Or have the DMF, and injecgtor/fuel problems largely been fixed on the 06 plates? Cheers! -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6 110hdi squeak / chirp on startup / clutch 2 May 2009 (Forum)
Opening the bonnet, and looking at the engine, these seem to be coming from the driver's side of the engine bay, perhaps from the area immediately to the side of the plastic engine cover. The car has covered 96K miles, always serviced on the dot, and had the DMF and clutch replaced at 93K after failure (peugeot main dealer, it was my father's company car). Otherwise a nice car (apart from the blasted fan running on when stopped). What kind of thing could I be looking at here?
