  • 'Chipping' - more power = less fuel ? 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
How's that done then ? Surely, if you up the power, the engine uses up more fuel. Looking at BR posts, especially with diesels, most people who have had their engine 'chipped' find the car uses LESS fuel. Any ideas ?

  • Diesel, Cold, stop start fuel consumption figures 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
But why do you rarely hear of the big fuel savings on cold, short journey, stop start use with diesel? (Diesels driven care that is and not booted forward at every gear change with maximum torque) Could it be that the official fuel consumption tests flatter Petrol?

  • Fuels 23 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Are the new range of Ultimate and Optimax unleaded fuels safe to use on ALL vehicles (obviously apart from those that require diesel or leaded!)? If so, do they deliver the additional efficiency and performance that they promise and are they worth the extra pennies on the litre?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 tdci fuel filter change 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi all, ive never change a fuel filter on a diesel, do i need to fill the thing with diesel first? if so is it via the 'in' nozzle on the filter? Also where is the oil filter and washer pump on ths car, i want to change all filters but the washer has packed up, though the wipers still work so im guessing its not a broken fuse!
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W210 (1995 - 2002) - 2000 2.2/3.0 Mechanical Fuel Injection 19 May 2008 (Forum)
I am considering buying a W124 or W210 E class Mercedes and would appreciate if someone could advise when M. Benz ceased production of diesel engines with Bosch mechanical fuel injection systems. Could someone also please advise when M. Benz switched to common rail diesel engines ?? Many thanks for your help.
  • Automatic fuel pump 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
At my local Safeway's petrol station today I noticed a lorry parked at one of the normal pumps filling up with diesel. However, the driver was walking round his lorry cleaning the lights whilst leaving the nozzle in his tank. I am assumin this was pumping diesel into his tank at the time. If so, how did he do it?

  • Biodiesel for the 21st Century 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Hi I'm currently investigating the use of Biodiesel as an alternative to the ~40 years or so of fossil fuels we've got left; and it's potential, and would like the BR's comments on the subject. For starters, what do people hear think of diesels in general? would using a 'green' diesel change their perception of it?

  • Any - Bio-diesel 3 Oct 2010 (Forum)
[ That is suggested  as the reason why the big container ships with their cathedral diesels burning 5% sulphur fuel have almost no diesel bug problem ] Diesel drivers may wish to keep this knowledge stored away in case you suddenly have trouble filling up.
  • Mondeo Diesel run dry 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
But I was not the one starting the car so it could have been incompetence on the part of the guy who was trying to start it. Anyways, How do you fix a diesel with a possible airlock in the fuel line?
  • Petrol in Diesel 11 May 2022 (Forum)
:-) A relative of mine (elderly) accidentally put around 0.95L (from the receipt) of unleaded in his disel vehicle earlier today.  He filled the rest up with diesel and drove home without any issues.  I got the call as he started to worry when he got home and is wondering whether to have his fuel system drained. With my limited knowledge, IF, there's any damage done it's probably done given that the wrong fuel will have been pumped around the engine but can any suitably qualified folks give a definitive (and pragmatic) answer as to whether he needs to go with the fuel drain or whether it's such a small amount that there's nothing to fret about?
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 09 1.9 1.9 diesel - engine cuts out intermittently 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I've cleaned out the fuel filter housing and replaced the fuel filter - I don't think fuel supply to the pump is a problem. I've taken it in for a diagnostic check at the local Citroen dealer and no fault was apparent. The mechanic suggested that the problem could be a solenoid on the diesel pump that communicates with the ECU.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Diesel fuel consumption figures! 12 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Since i can't find a way to post a new thread on this confounded site, i put my twopenceworth here. In 2005, bought new Picasso 110bhp diesel Desire. Had it for 3-1/2 yrs, and got over 50mpg on all but one tank of diesel. (Car thrashed in emergency--then many very short runs). Bought duplicate car in november2008 (except colour) and only twice have i managed to exceed 50mpg.
  • Amortising Diesel Costs 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
In HJ's update to the Hyundai I-30 test he states that... "..Do the sums and at £2,000 cheaper than the 1.6 CRDI and £200 less fuel cost per 10,000 miles it?s going to take 100,000 miles to make up the difference in purchase price..." In other words at present fuel prices, the increased fuel consumption of the petrol car is offset by its lower purchase price such that until you get to 100,000 the actual saving to you if you buy the diesel is nil.
