Insurance- driving through floods 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Well I've seen some particularly stupid videos here in S Wales of people deliberately driving through clearly deep flood water on the roads and the subsequent completely predictable stalling, floating away etc of the ruined car. I was wondering whether these kinds of actions are covered by comprehensive insurance or not. I would have thought not, as a deliberate action to wreck one's car is surely not covered? Different of course to a parked car being over-whelmed by water through no fault of the owner. -
Used car warranties 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The deal I'm being offered includes the small matter of £360 for a 'platinum' 12 month warranty with breakdown cover. It's not a deal-breaker, but it seems on the hefty side to me, and I'm concerned about potential get-out clauses. I doubt the car will do the dirty on me anyway, but those are famous last words. What do people think - is it a fair deal, and who's best for solid, honest cover? -
Sale of goods act and Ebay 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
But what if I buy a car from a trader on Ebay? Presumably i've bought a car at auction and hence am not covered. Thanks James -
Guy ran into back of me, I have no legal cover 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
There was little damage down to my car but I had to get my bumper changed. The claim is now apparently in dispute (apparently admiral haven't responded) and my car insurance has come up for renewal I've just been hit with a £200 excess and my policy has went up by £100. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Warranty: cover with irregular Service History 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have just bought a 3 year old Mondeo from a dealer in Southampton, with 30K on the clock. I found the car on the internet and went to view and purchase the car yesterday. When I originally phoned about the car, I asked if there was a full service history and I was told there was. I did a visual check of the car and went for a test drive. -
Good Car insurance for an 18 year old? 1 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi guys, Being 18 is the biggest pain for car insurance. I basically need a policy that covers me to drive other cars third party. I commute back and forward to England as I have family there and would use their cars while there. I have been covered up to now by Quinn who have recently announced that they have raised the age to 25! -
Channel island cars UK or Imports?? 5 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We're trying to trade in our Leon TDi S that started life as a Jersey hire car, then the dealer who imported it had it in their name so we're the 2nd UK owner. SEAT UK say its a UK car and it has the standard UK warranty and AA cover (we have a letter confirming the warranty cover but not the UK car bit), but our local Vauxhall dealer say its an import and value it as such (ie £1250 under the online Network Q thingy from Glass' guide) Who is right? -
Ford Focus Zetec 2008 - Does 3 months warranty from dealer cover faulty AC 11 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I phoned the dealer and he immediately said this belongs under servicing and that's not covered in the warranty which I don't really get. When we bought the car I asked what was included in the warranty and he simply said everything. As far as i'm concerned no matter what the AC / ventilation system fall under, this should be covered by the warranty. -

Renault Scenic - Headlights for France 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
What's the best way of adjusting the headlights for driving on the continent? My new (last of the old-style) Scenic has twin headlights with no obvious area to cover to remove the kerbside bit of the dipped beam. Previous cars had a moulding in the lens to cover with black tape or a ridged deflecting lens. Thanks guys -
AA Warranty - Worth it? 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I just had a cold call from AA warranties tonight and for the first time ever, have actually bought one. The gist of the policy is that it covers everything except:- Brakes Tyres Windscreen Exhaust All of the electrics, engine components and other greasy bits are covered. The cost is £21 per month over 24 months for 2 years cover at 0% APR. -
Do not sign for auto renewal of breakdow 9 May 2007 (Forum)
That time of year again - Breakdown Cover - Covered by a Large Insurance Co you get directly to and their premium for 2 cars was £120 (in round figures) including No call out discount for 8 years = 15%. so base premium is £143 Got a quote from the same company (flying a different Flag) @ £92.40 in a 25% New Policy Discount =£124 Gross- so the red telephone is more expensive than the Green Flag by £19. -

M.G. ZT-T Warranty 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
One of my fleet vehicles has gone into the supplying dealer for a service today. The dealer says that the cooling fan and hose need replacing at a cost of £540.00.The car was registered on 18/02/2005 and so I questioned as to whether it should be covered, by the dealer, under a 12 month warranty. The dealer has stated that they only cover the car for 3 months and subsiquent warranty would have been with M.G Rover.Does this seem correct? -
Unknown - Bubbling paint on a GRP bodied classic car 8 Mar 2020 (Forum)
When wet weather came in I used two car covers, one soft breathable, and one waterproof, to keep off worst of rain and bird droppings etc. To my horror the paintwork has bubbled up badly, little humps about 3mm diameter, 1mm high." -
Insurance for test drives 31 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I'm about to try selling my car privately, and I'm confused about the advice I've read about insurance when a potential buyer's taking my car for a test drive. As long as the buyer's got comprehensive cover on his car, they ought to have 3rd party cover to drive my car, so if he runs someone over he's covered. -
Vauxhall insignia ,black - Paint/scratch repair 31 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I found that if you use a felt permanent marker to cover small stone chips and scratches,it covers as good as these expensive car scratch kits,I use a black felt tip on my Siggy, but you can use all colours, just make sure that they are the waterproof and permanent ones. -

Best Breakdown Recovery Service 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I'm currently with the AA (Roadside Relay cover for two cars) renewal this year is £119.25 which seems to be expensive compared to other deals available. I've only called them out once and wasn't impressed with the service so may change cover this year. -
Varta B18 battery ?? 7 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have a Varta B18 "Blue Dynamic" calcium/silver battery on my car. Given the recent hot weather, I am concerned as to the fluid level in the cells but seem unable to remove the cover to check. Can anyone please advise if the cover is supposed to lift off or if this is some kind of "sealed for life " item?
