  I want a diesel The wife needs an automatic So what do i buy??? I was biggly in the notion of the VW DSG but am now a little apprehensive of it going wrong So an I30 Hyundai perhaps? Sommat Golf / Focus sized is plently What else is out there And what is real world fuel economy like??????????????????

  Hi all ! I'm having problems with my opel astra f automatic gearbox Aisin AW6040LE AF13. In the morning at the first start of the car the Sport Mode light flashes and the gearbox goes in limp mode. I can drive the car manually shifting. After 10-15 minutes if I stop and then start again the car, the gearbox will ran fine the rest of the day.

  I have the chance to buy an 05/55 9-5 2.2 Tid Vector automatic registered in December 2005 and with 1500 miles on the clock. This is from a friend who after only 5 weeks has decided he made the wrong choice. Now I know that these depreciate very heavily in the early years but I am tempted at that price.

  My wife has a 205 automatic,because the reversing lights were malfunctioning so I decided to clean up the terminals on the inhibiter switch[it has worked before]I have now lost the reversing lights but have also lost the ignition light at switch on and it now comes on when I rev the engine.The volts with the engine running are13.75 and at rest they are 12.25,the headlights are brighter when I rev the engine Iwould be gratefull for any suggestions Burman

  Hi. First time on this board. I'm wanting to buy a Automatic car but dont know which models are any good. I was going for either a Ford Mondeo 1.8 auto or a Ford Escort 1.6 auto but after reading posts and reveiws on this site about the gearboxes i'm not sure.

  A friends wife is learning to drive and is opting for the auto-only license at this stage. They are looking to buy a small automatic and have a budget of about £2K + whatever insurance cost is required. They have decided on a Micra CVT at this stage. Other than a Punto Auto I can't think of that many viable alternatives within their budget.

  Hi there, I'm looking to buy a used car, preferably a reliable brand like a Honda or a Toyota but I can't decide whether I should go automatic or not. I've been driving a manual since passing my driving test a few years ago, but I've been thinking of getting an automatic after test driving a few in the past. I don't drive that much, maybe once a week, it will be mainly my wife who will be driving back and forth to work (about 3-4 miles only) every day.

  It might be helpful - thinking particularly of Sorceress who is looking for a small automatic - if we knew which cars have torque-converter autos or CVT (generally reliable) and which have semi-automatics (jerky, unreliable or both).  SLO will know this I'm sure, but all views welcome!

  I cannot find any reference in their procedures on their website  that states that if a poilcy isn't automatically renewed a charge would be incurred. Can you please help and advise me how to resolve this matter as I feel that he has been mislead and could  be forced to pay.  I would be grateful for any advice any one has to offer.

  Hello Everybody, I have just agreed to purchase a Honda Accord Tourer diesel automatic from a Honda dealer (13 months old & 8,800 miles) - as this will be my first ever automatic car can any auto gearbox experts advise on how often the ATF should be changed ? I wish to keep the car for as long as possible so am wondering if changing the ATF every 2 years is ok (my annual milage is circa 15,000).

  It's occurs every time I fill up to the first automatic shut off. Has anyone else noticed this problem with any Ford Focus 2008 onwards model and if so what's the problem ? My previous Focus 05 never had this problem.

  I thought it was simple but.......... I have a Y-reg Audi A6, 2.5TDI automatic. The car has done 140,000 miles and I decided to replace the Automatic Transmission Fluid. I drained it out (no problem) but then couldn't replace the fluid, (according to the workshop manual, Audi use a special piece of equipment, and when I attempted to fill it using the level-check hole the oil wouldn't stay in).

  I have had a small garage fit a new GM 4L30E (recon) automatic gearbox to my Omega, but there is now no drive. I got the gearbox from a working low mileage late model, and then replaced lots of seals in it, some I did myself, and some an automatic specialist did.

  My question is, does anyone know of any specific problems with the 1.6 auto and more generally, are we nuts to be thinking of buying an automatic when neither of us has driven one before and would prefer a manual if given the choice? Thanks.
