  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 02 2.0 HDi Engine Fault - knocking/jerking 23 Dec 2008 (Forum)
    Obviously the fuel rail pressure sensor was not at fault, or something is causing the fuel rail pressure sensor to prematurely die. Please can somebody help? Many thanks, Chris {edited subject header to remove repeated words that are automatically put in from your drop down menu choice and compulsory year and engine detail boxes}
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.9dt - poor fuel economy 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
But i was getting this problem even then,i dont know whether this could have been the cause. We kept the original fuel pump and injectors when we swapped engines. Cars getting on a bit now, but if i could get better mpg i could save a few quid! Any ideas?! No need to repeat the car make/model in the subject header.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 93 1.5 Diesel tank sender unit question 5 May 2008 (Forum)
Tried various things to sort it, and since the last time its done over 1000 miles without so much as a hiccup, until it broke down again this week with exactly the same symptoms. Seems like some sort of fuel starvation and this time he was on a busy road and had to have recovery to a local garage. The chap there suggested that the sender unit in the fuel tank could be the problem, but as a new one is silly money, we are going to try one from the local scrappy and fit it ourselves.
  • Toyota Landcruiser 80 Amazon (1990 to 1998) - Modern diesels - what's the point? 28 Apr 2008 (Forum)
And when it does go wrong, it will probably take the garage a month (and numerous attempts) to fix, and require a second mortgage to pay for it. If CO2 is a direct result of fuel consumption, they'd have been better off putting the old LC engine in the new Isuzu, and I'd had had better power, fuel economy, and reliability.
  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Who sells the most economical diesel for my car? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Is this because I am now through the 1500 miles mark, because I am using Shell rather than Morrisons or Tescos(amongst others) or is there another reason. If it is the Shell fuel, is there any other make that will give me even better fuel mileage?
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 1.9 dCi poor fuel consumption 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have noticed recently that the fuel consumption of the wife's Scenic has dropped by about 10-20%. The car has a fairly awful daily commute through very slow traffic but normally manages 36 mpg. This is now 31 mpg. Engine still starts well and no drop in power.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 220SDI 1997cc, Engine missed and won't re-start 10 Feb 2008 (Forum)
When we pulled over and stopped, the engine did a restart, still missing and then the engine cut out and would not re start. Called recovery who checked fuel flow into and out of filter, said this was o.k. They suggested it could be an injector problem or fuel pump. Has anyone any ideas for a practical sort of chap like me? Is it possible to fit new injectors?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2002 TDCi (auto) judders when accelerating 31 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone shed any light on this? I've read about cam sensors, crank sensors, injectors, fuel pumps and even fuel filters, and to be honest, my head is spinning. I don't really want to run it into a garage since the last time I did (for the black smoke), I had it in 2 different ones and neither of them could locate the problem.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 93 diesel starting problems. 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
It would not restart so i tryed to bump it it started but immediately died and still wont restart. It turns over fine but just wont get going. I changed the fuel filter and plenty of fuel came out, but now it doesn't seem to be getting fuel thru it when i press the self prime button. It did do this once before in the same spot lol but managed to get it started about an hour later after just leaving it it did take awhile of cranking tho but started and ran fine since.
  • Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - Overheating warning and erratic fuel gauge 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Recently, the engine temperature warning light has been coming on sporadically, but there are no signs of overheating (no hot coolant smells, no steam or puddles, engine running/pulling fine). This has been joined in recent days by the fuel gauge behaving erratically. I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that the overheating warning is false. Certainly, there are no signs as mentioned earlier. The car has done 35,000 miles, and has the original coolant in it at the right concentration and the right level in the tank.
  • Older diesel 4x4 recomendations ? 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Short list so far Discovery 300TDI Nissan Terrano 2.7TDI (or jap import Minstral equivalent) (not in fashion so cheap and reliable) Shogun/Pajero LWB (not keen on looks specially the Pajeros) Izuzu Trooper ( or bighorn jap import equivalent) looks dated to me and huge! Fuel consumption a concern as we run a Toyota rav 4 LWB mk1 and i hope to go a size up but with diesel power hope to retain similar economy or better. Real world advise on fuel consumption for any of the above or similar would be welcome.
  • Rover 420 SDI 2 litre turbo diesel fault 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Interestingly, if the engine is turned off for a short period (say 5 mins) after even just a mile or two from cold, it runs perfectly when re-started. The coolant temperature sensor, fuel filter and the glow plugs have been renewed. I only use Shell diesel fuel, never supermarket products. Any ideas? Thank you,
  • Golf MkIV Fuel starvation/throttle issue 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Got the AA out and the guy reckoned it was a throttle potentiometer problem. He started the car by manually opening the fuel valve. Took it into VW and all they did was reset the ECU. Everything ran fine until last Friday when the engine cut out again. This was as I was changing down from 3rd to 2nd. Couldn't get it started and it was towed back to my house.
  • Seat Leon SE TDi 110 BHP Misfire 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have found if I start the engine and rev pass 2000 rpm the car will drive smother between this rev range. I have changed the air filter, engine temperature sensor, fuel filter and the N75 valve. I have also run several tank fuels of fuel system cleaner through the engine. A Seat main dealer has also reset the ECU. I would really appreciate any help with this problem.
  • Petrol in Diesel Sabotage? 26 Jan 2007 (Forum)
    2) What would the symptoms of such contamination be? I thought that contamination ruined the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors through lack of lubrication. Out of interest, the garage where the fuel was obtained has been given a clean bill of health, and the one that replaced the engine is above suspiscion too.
  • Mondeo TD jerking 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Unfortunately today I was on my way home and it kept loosing all power again, if I held the revs up it tended to be ok. Knowing the fuel filter was probably old I have just replaced that and its a little better. Occassionally the accelleration is brilliant for a second or so, sometimes sluggish and its still stalling. I have good fuel pressure to the pump.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 Dci smoking 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Coolant is correct colour and free of deposits/emulsified oil as is the rocker cover. Have also noticed lots of air bubbles in clear fuel lines. I know that conventional diesels don't like air in the fuel but do common rail diesels tolerate air and could this cause the excessive smoking? Not knowing much about these Dci diesels, anyone out there know if these cars suffer gasket failure Cheers, Andrew
  • Dmage to car at garage 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a Vectra where a warranty problem on the fuel system has been so hard to fix I left it with the dealer yesterday for 2 days .The dealer is 15 miles away,, and I am self-emploed, so round-trips are a waste of time and money. Collecting the car today, they told me the fuel problem was fixed but when I went to the car I found it had been damaged. the cover for the drivers door mirror had gone.It was there yesterday morning.
  • problems warm starting a bmw 318 diesel 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The engine will start eventually but requires 4 seconds and more on the starter to fire it up. this always results in a great cloud of white (unburned diesel) smoke and could I guess eventually damage the engine. I have replaced the fuel filter. and checked that the fuel pump delivers fuel from the tank to the filter ok. there does not appear to be a leak in the system between the injection pump and the injectors. my next guess is that the valve clearances are not correct.
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.4i 1992 (K reg) 17 May 2005 (Forum)
Someone else in the local parts store said it may be the idle control valve and in his experience it is rarely the fuel pump. We have had it for two years and it has 51,000 on the clock. Any ideas? Cheers...
