  • Passat Climatronic control 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The engine is up to temp (90 deg) the heater feed is hot and the return is slightly cooler. A pal bought one at the same time and as with my Audi 80 you could roast beef in the cab when on the hot setting. Any thoughts please before I make a start. Many thanks.
  • badge snobbery 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
    A friend of mine has a Skoda Fabia vrs tdi - what a car. Superb build quality and great to drive. A lot of people buy the Audi A3. I don't know why. They're identical cars. They tend to think the badge is more better. Well they're the fools for thinking that. {More editing to include some punctuation. DD}
  • Luxo Barge Choice 24 May 2005 (Forum)
Im very tall 6'4" and got 2 growing kids and need lots of room. Always been a car nut and like large capacity petrol engines. Choices are new shape BMW745, Audi A8, or Merc S430/500. Which is going to give best overall ownership pleasure and lifecycle costs. Must admit preference is BMW but am I right?
  • Mondeo ST Tdci 155. Depreciation 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've been focusing on a BMW/Audi as a replacement for my beloved ZT. However, I had a quick look at a mondeo ST Tdci 155 the other day. Nice looking car with lots of kit. I've seen them for around £15500. However, having been stung once with a mondeo (admittedly a previous shape 1.8 zetec) I'm reluctant to give it serious consideration.
  • Judge John Deed.. 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Watching the programme last night I noticed that Judge Deed had changed his car from Audi S3 to Porsche (or does he have both?) Anyway..the Black Hats cut the nearside front brake pipe, causing Jo Mills to crash whilst chasing the baddies. Question - don't most modern cars (especially luxury sports) have a back-up system working on diagonally opposing wheels, allowing the car to brake safely?
  • Fault Code Readers 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I would like to know if any particular fault reading tool is: a) easier to use than the others b) cheaper to buy and to update c) more applicable to late model German cars, BMW, Mercedes, Vauxhall, VW, Audi Are there any types that I should simply avoid? Thank you, number_cruncher
  • Warranties and Main Dealer Servicing 19 May 2004 (Forum)
I read in the Telegraph this morning that as from today VW, Audi and a number of other marques are no longer stipulating that you must have full dealer service histories to be able to claim under manufacturers warranties. Must admit you can see the point of the manufacturers and I would imagine that there are going to plenty of disputes in the future where customers have had work done by a non franchised garage and VW etc. refuse to honour a claim because it is deemed to be sub standard.
  • Returning to UK 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Returning to UK after 3-1/2 years, and my previous insurers say that there is no way I can resume insurance with my full no-claims after this time out of the country; any of you know of insurers who will? I will have 9-10 grand to spend on a diesel saloon and was thinking of a 2000 BMW 320SE, or an Audi A4 1.9. Moving back to the north of Scotland so, judging by the car prices I may need to make a car purchase trip down south; any info welcome!
  • Which Diesel Fuel 26 May 2003 (Forum)
I currently run a 98 Audi A4 2.5 Diesel Quattro Avant (93K miles)in which the engine has been vibrating slightly more at idle, I think the injectors may be slightly gummed & a shot of injector cleaner will be used at the next fill-up.
  • A4 dipped beam 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
So I put xeon 30% brighter bulbs in and also tested the voltage to the bulbs in case there was a drop through the loom, but it made no improvment. Audi UK and my local main dealer say they have never heard of any problems, so am I alone with this problem, or have any of you managed to improve these lights? ps the main beam is very good. Dave C
  • 1989 quattro cold starting 25 May 2002 (Forum)
My G registered Audi Quattro 2226cc seems to take too long to start when cold. On first attempt I turn the engine over for about 10 seconds and give up. On second attempt I turn it over for another 10 seconds at which point it fires up.
  • Backroom victory 30 Apr 2002 (Forum)
My Audi Coupe is now back on its wheels after some confusion over brake hoses (20V owners note - the German & Swedish parts catalogue lists the wrong front brake hose). The effect of fitting the new wishbone bushes is amazing - I hadn't realised just how bad the old ones had got.
  • importing Audiu S3 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
son looking for Audi S3 quattro, found a German dealer, Autohaus Bartels, who can supply at Euros29750. He goes there to collect (8 weeks delivery) - even after paying 1.5% UK tax on arrival here, total saving £4000. Comes with 2 year Europe warranty and firm even drives him from airport - they have many UK customers. 15% deposit required, then balance 2 weeks before delivery.
  • 3 series reign of terror 10 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Is this new model the all-conquering motor it's cracked up to be? I've never driven one (went for the Audi at a better price!), so I'd value comments. Pat
  • Renault Vel Satis 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The reports I've read on the Vel Satis suggest there is not a lot of room for passangers in the back - if so then what on earth is the point of the upright style ? BMW, AUDI and Mercedes don't need to lose any sleep I think .......
  • Worst cars of the year Germany 29 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Special prize to DB for the C class with the highest number of a single complaint Door rubbers and to Audi for having to replace every car seat delivered in their taxi models. The best BMW,Toyota and Ford. These only represents vehicles attended to as breakdowns
  • Next Generation A2 20 Jul 2001 (Forum)
HJs Car-by-car breakdown page seems to suggest that the next generation Audi A2 is due just over a year from now. Surely this is a mistake as the current model has only been out for a couple of years at the most....not long enough to recoup the tooling costs etc.... Does HJ infact mean the new A3?
  • In an estate over high fuel costs 30 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I have an Audi 80 2.6E V6 estate, 93 L with 80k on the clock. Should I keep it and continue paying high prices for petrol and possibly have to buy a pair of new catalytic converters. Convert it to LPG. Sell it and buy a slower diesel 80.
  • Low mileage Xantia - am I sane to reject 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
there was no sunroof and a radio cassette and no CD player. And the price was about £500 over mileage adjusted top book. Compared to an Audi A4TDI it was- Slower- less power, had a much smoother engine, a much better ride and felt less like driving a bus. The Audi won hands down on interior fittings ? but the Audi (and SE) cost nearly 60% more?
  • Suggestions for a big engined luxobarge? 28 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Looked at MB but have heard of horror stories of work required on suspensions etc and do am just a bit wary.   A larger Audi with a 4.2 litre is another option, but as its diesel, with diesel now being on the receiving end of negative publicity  its likely to be worth only the value of scrap metal in a few years time.
