Passat Climatronic control - spadger
Hi. Just got a V reg Passat 1.9 TDI and the heating system is poor in that, if you push the temp beyond the the 22 deg auto setting it gets warmer but not hot even on the max setting. The engine is up to temp (90 deg) the heater feed is hot and the return is slightly cooler. A pal bought one at the same time and as with my Audi 80 you could roast beef in the cab when on the hot setting. Any thoughts please before I make a start. Many thanks.

Could be that the car internal temperature sensor is faulty and it thinks the cabin temperature is okay and so it won't heat it up any more beyond the 22 mark?

Just a thought.

Hi Nick. Thanks for that. That could make sense as with just the face vent operating and set at 22 deg, if I reduce the temp in 1 deg steps there is a noticable reduction in temperature but no change upwards from 22 deg. Is the sensor located behind that little grill and what can be done to rectify it? Thanks again fellas.

I would think more likely so partial blockage or problem in the heater circuit (debris in matrix, valve not opening properly etc.).

I think there is a temp. sensor in the fascia of the climatronic control panel (or somewhere in this area of the dash board) and also one in the small "bump" in the centre vent at the bottom of the windscreen (very top of the dashboard).

I had the whole dash out of my 2000 Passat to replace a leaking heater matrix (I wouldn't recommend it...!). I seem to remember another temperature sensor behind the passenger (left-most) airvent too.

Hi Fellas. Further to my problem with the heater not getting upto temp and trying all the usaul things including a diagnostics check which showed nothing. I have discovered that by opening the face vent control and the vents I can get another 7 deg rise in temp at the footwell outlet. Open the screen vent and yet another 7 or so deg increase so all three are where they should be. Close the footwell and there is no change to the others. Open the footwell and close the others and temp drops again. Changing the fan speed make no differance. Any ideas please?
