  my son is considering buying a second hand mazda it has done 39000 miles - looks in good condition - when would the cam belt need to be replaced. It has electric windows - sun roof A/C etc.  But the battery was run down the guy in garage wasn't sure why - checked the battery not the original - could there be a problem with the electrics??? Any advice please pref ASAP as he needs to make a decision. PS the price is £1500.

  As soon as you turn the engine off and try and restart it turns over a little bit but doesn't restart. There is no battery light lit so it appears the alternator is ok and I have cleaned all the battery contacts and the earth and it is still the same, When started the car was run for 20 or so miles yet it wouldn't restart when the ignition was turned off.

  The (quality OE Varta) battery in my C5 V6 has finally given up the ghost after 8 years of service - well not given up but the starter seems more sluggish than usual. I ordered a Bosch S4 to replace it, just tackled the job expecting to run out of light - 5 minutes later the car was spinning over like a dream - I was amazed to discover that battery replacement is tool-free!

   12 months ago it suffered catastrophic alternator failure which also made light work in ruining the battery.  The RAC were great and they got all the parts and bits and it was fixed with new alternator and battery.  Almost exactly 12 months later, and after only 3000 miles, the vehicle has suffered an identical failure.

  I have an A3 2.0 tdi. The cooling fanstays unless I disconnect the battery, I have disconnected what I believe to be the cooling sensor (between battery box and engine), but the fan just keeps going. I believe there must be a relay some where that operates the fan and would be grateful to know where to look plus any other suggestions.

  Hi guys got a Vectra V6 with a chipped key, got car and immobiliser worked with one key but not with other key,it had no battery in so got a couple of new batteries and put them into both keys ( what a mistake ) now neither key works the immobilser ,but still works the ignition, tried the re-programming turning the ignition on and press the lock or unlock on the key fob but nothing happens, didn't get a Vauxhall car pass with it, so any ideas on how to program key fob ta dave

  Hi, my 2002 Renault Clio 1.2 16v won't start. It stopped working yesterday, sounded like the battery had gone. Replaced the battery today, but now I can only hearing and clicking noise. Tried bump starting and tried jump leads but neither has worked. Elec windows and lights are still working.

  The engine won.t turn over after a short time at rest.take 3 or 4 attempts.Almost as if the battery wwas flat.But both battery and starter motor are A1 as are connections.Been advised a new ignition control needed a £530 fitted.Seems a lot.Is thi the most likley cause.Another person said it was the starter relay.Does anyone supply p arts other than Mercedes at lower cost?

  Hi Have recently had problems with my MG ZS (diesel) in that the battery had been running down due to incorrectly connected accessories, fixed by an auto electrician. Now back on the road with a new battery but I now have a duff speedo. The needle doesn't move and the odometer and trip recorder stay on the current mileage.

  When this happens, nothing will disable it - and the volume/on-off control is inoperable, i.e. turning it does not alter the volume and depressing it does not turn off the power. The only solution is to disconnect the battery. When the battery is reconnected, and the radio code re-entered, it will work again for a period, and the fault will then recur. Has anyone encounetred this problem? Is it a fault with the radio, or is it in the car's electrics?

  Hi, I've seen it recommended here to change your oil using a vacuum oil pump like the pela, and I was looking to buy one when I saw a 12v electric version of these that run from the cig. socket or with croc clips to the battery e.g Draper 73319. The price is roughly the same but I was wondering if it would be detrimental to the car battery to run the pump from it for up to 5 minutes with a current draw of 8 amps and 83 watts with the engine off?

  I recently bought an S Type - and I'm very happy. One of the keys had a flat battery, so I replaced it according to the instructions in the handbook, making sure I only spent a few seconds. The previous battery must have been flat as a pancake, as it now has no coding. Is this one of the keys that can be coded by a sequence of keypresses in the vehicle, or do I need to go to my Jaguar dealer and assume the position?

  As this happens, the lights on the car go dim as if it's lost power and the automatic gearbox light on the dashboard lights up. The battery is obviously iffy as i had to jump start it twice last night just to get it home. Would a duff battery cause this problem? Would reduced electrical power tell the gearbox to change down into 1st?
