  • traffic lights for roundabouts 1 May 2005 (Forum)
Their recent project was to make chessington road, ewell into a dual carriageway and then replace an adequate mini roundabout into a 3 phase traffic light system thereby completly negating the benefit of the dual carriageway. Since its completion the rush hour congestion has got worse, talk about a waste of money.
  • Fully Comp, all vehicles, myth? 25 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I've always thought this was their confusion over 3rd party for all cars being on their policy, with fully comp on their own vehicle. My argument against such insurance, is that you can insure a Mini fully comp, and then smash up a rolls royce or Ferrari and the insurance company still ends up paying. So the question is, does such insurance exist for private motorists? cheers Durelli - son of a famous Italian tyre maker
  • Stopping new panels rusting 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hiya, got to fit some new sills onto my 1992 mini. Does anyone know of any way I can help to preserve them so its a good few years before I must replace them again? Also got to replace one of the front wings at sometime in the near future, so the same applies to that too.
  • 'Alcolocks' 17 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Read that the powers that be are considering installing mini breath testing gadgets into the cars of convicted drink drivers, which would immobilise the car if the driver failed the test. My first thought was what a brilliant idea, and that it should be extended to *all* vehicles, a failsafe way of preventing any form of drink driving.

  • 10 Seater? 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
There will be 10 of us all together. The plan is to buy the vechile then sell it afterwards. Are there any MPV's\Limos\mini buses\caravanettes, which would be comfortable for a few weeks of driving for 10 people + luggage? Incidently we are based in the London area if that makes a difference. Any suggestions would help.
  • This is what you call a warranty 17 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Anyone see Tiff Needell roadtesting the new Mini the other night. You can buy a 5 year or 50,000 mile service pack including all parts and labour for £100.00. What a deal, then reality or cyniscm creeps into ones thinking. You get nowt for owt, is this built in to the initial price.
  • Faulty MINI One - should the dealer pay for repairs? 10 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)
I recently bought a 2007 MINI Hatch One from a dealer for £3300. The car had 104,000 miles on the clock, full service history, one month’s MoT. Twenty...
  • Mini Cooper D All 4 Countryman - Clutch replacement at 22,000 miles 15 Oct 2019 (Forum)
My mini was has a few months left of the warranty.  Whilst driving down a steep incline (diversion due to road works) which I wouldn't normally do, I found that when I needed to reverse due to a car with a large trailer coming towards me, the car just wouldn't 'pull' backwards.
  • MINI Hatch 5-door '57 reg - Return or reject? 10 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have been saving for a car for the last year, and I finally hit my "milestone" of £5,000 (this is a massive amount of money to me) - so I decided to go out and buy a car.    Went to a dealer, and bought a '57 Mini Hatch One, 104,000 miles, service history, 1 months MOT for £3,300. Car looked great, and was fine on the test drive. So I bought (cash) there and then. I got a receipt etc.    20 Miles into the journey home (I live 80 miles from the dealer), engine started smoking, and had to be recovered.

Why do you think cars are so much more reliable than they ever were? I remember spending hours keeping my Mini on the road. Constantly having to work on it just keep the damned thing running. Now, I bet you could buy a MINI, change the oil every 5000 miles, never do ANYTHING else to it and it would go on for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of miles.

  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-05-2017 Part 1 6 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I read with interest letters from JA concerning her MINI and JH concerning his Mercedes C class Elegance. Both were looking to sell and I would be keen to talk to them about buying these vehicles if they are still available. I am looking to buy a good quality older car for limited use.
  • WD 40 - what is it good for? 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It's not the best penetrative oil, but a squirt or two left for a few hours will make a nut easier to remove. And it's certainly dried out any number of Minis with drowned electrics. So what is WD 40 good for? Absolutely nothing, or nearly everything?
  • Motoring stereotypes. 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I find it harder to identify certain groups these days, how often do you see a volvo estate full of antique furniture for example? I have noticed that mini-MPVs are predominantly driven by people that HATE cars. The roads are practically full of mimsers in Citroen Picassos.
  • Fuel and fuel consumption 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I recently used Shell V-Power in my 2005 MINI Cooper S and 2007 BMW 320d to see if it gave better fuel consumption over 'cooking' petrol/diesel. Total mileage of test approx 3,000. Result: no meaninful - if any - improvement. Conclusion (for me and my cars): premium fuel = waste of money.
  • Mismatched specifications 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I'm in the States at the moment, and driving a people carrier, or 'mini van', as I've got to carry a fair amount of equipment around. I've got a Toyota Sienna, a big, 8 seater thing, and it's fine. Comfy, massive, and with a good stereo. What I don't understand is that it has a 3.5 litre, 266 hp V6.
  • Latest Public Transport Stats 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Public transport usage has gone up significantly by every measurement, it wouldn't be because motorists are fed up with traffic jams - would it? Does the figure for licensed taxis include private hire vehicles (mini-cabs) presumably not.
  • Clarkson for Mayor of London! 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
:-) It would be interesting to see whether his policies would make London a better or worse place to live or whether the experience would temper his ego or inflate to enormous proportions! It would be a wonderful antidote to the car hating, free choice suppressing, mini despots that seem to get these jobs in spite of no-one you know actually voting for them. Red Ken was a good slap in the chops for Labour. Clarkson would be a small nuclear device under them! teabelly
