  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 05 2.0 clutch replacement 25 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I bought a 2005 deisel xtrail from a main dealer in 8< snip , had it 4 months and clutch has gone. I am single mum and though this car was not new it cost me £8500 and to me that is a lot of money. I went to dealer as I had a two year warranty, they told me it was wear and tear and not covered, I had only done 2000 miles in the 4 month I had it, cost me £750 to get fixed and staff and manager were very rude and couldnt have cared less.
  • Mazda Tribute - Alarm reset 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Vehicle laid up over Xmas and New Year (3months) unfortunately battery was flat when we went to restart the car, recharged battery and everything was back to normal except the alarm which goes off everytime we lock the vehicle. On checking the manual Mazda suggest that the vehicle be taken to one of their main dealers who for a small sum will reprogramme the Key / Alarm.

  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 battery light flickers for a couple of seconds 18 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi Everyone i have a bmw 3 series 318i reg 2002 and have had a few problems with it in the last 3-4 months. i cover 30miles each way to work and on each journey usually when accelerating independent of whether its in a low or high gear the battery light flickers on for a split second accompanied by a jerk. i had it checked by an independent garage and was told that this was related to the alternator thus that was changed the problem continued and got worse after 4-5 weeks until 2 weeks ago when the engine management light came on and the power was reduced. 4 ignition coils and spark plugs were change. unfortunately this split second flickering of the battery continues. i have no problem starting the car does anyone have any bright ideas about this problem?????

  • Vauxhall Corsa B 1995 - 1.2 petrol - Blowing brake light bulbs 10 May 2011 (Forum)
After noticing that the driver's side brake light bulb had blown on my son's Corsa, I replaced it, checked that the new bulb worked, then fitted the holder and cover back into position.  We checked it again, fully expecting it to be working OK - but it immediately blew again. Something must have gone wrong fairly recently as, only last month, the car passed its MoT test.
  • Smart Roadster Coupe - Rear coil springs 7 May 2011 (Forum)
Usually don`t bother with manuals but reckon it might save time on this one. She`s sitting down on the drivers side rear, can`t see anything underneath so suspect top of coil is broken. It`s done 40,000miles,hasn`t been thrashed,I`m only allowed in the passenger seat ;) but you feel every pothole&manhole cover........so does the suspension I would guess.First became suspicious when the driver appeared to do an odd correction mid-corner at times, usually her driving isn`t too alarming. Now I understand car was oversteering on right-handers and understeering on lefthanders.
  • Local Council - Can do or Can't do ??? 16 Sep 2010 (Forum)
    3) Produce and change that persons vehicle insurance for business use, although its covered for use 'to and from their place of work'. The above applies to staff no matter whether they park their vehicle on the Queens Highway alongside the school grounds or in its car park. Even if that person only uses its vehicle once or twice a month.
  • Mazda 626 (2000 - 2002) - 00 2.0 Poor MPG economy 18 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Timing belt, tensioner and water pump were replaced one month before that. Tyre pressure is ok (32psi). The car has covered 64,000 miles, is 9 years old and is in good condition with plenty of main dealer history. I'm not driving it like a boy racer, nor like an old lady. Any ideas of what's causing this slightly disappointing economy?
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 diesel - Faulty gearbox warranty issue 30 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The independant dealer gave her 3 months warranty & they have said they will pay the maximum £1000 as the warranty is limited, but she has to pay the rest her self. The dealer is rufusing to pay the whole amount as when she bought it she was told she would be covered upt £1000 per claim on the major partslabour. The dealer said the fault was not present when she bought it & they have a 3 page reportchecklist on the vehicle condition etc (down by themselves) whcih confirms the car was all good What can she do?
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 01 2.0 HDI Fuel consumption 25 Apr 2009 (Forum)
It did have a 2 week period last September when, despite being on the usual trips, it switched to 60 mpg and then dropped back to 42 again. I'm always light footed, and never exceed the speed limits. The car has covered 94K but the fuel consumption was the same when I aquired it at 52K. The measurements have been take over individual fill-ups (larger error) and a few cummulative fill-ups but both give the same reading.
  • Treadless spare and the law 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
On my last car I went for the third option as one my spare was ilegal and one of my other tyres was breaking up but then three weeks later I got rid of it ( So I don't want to make the same kind of mistake again.
  • Near miss last night- but who was in the wrong? 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Has made me think though, if we had come together, who would have been in the wrong. Incidentally, told my wife about this, as was in her car taking her mum home, and she said has seen him doing this quite a few times.
  • Peugeot & Citroen cooling fan motors 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I would like to know if the two different manuafacturers of radiator cooling fan motors for the Peugeot/Citroen range are interchangeable? I am talking about a 1999 306 1.6 petrol, but there seems to be lots of PSA models covered by these parts. The two types are either GATE or ECIA. Even the main dealer asked which type were fitted to my car (some help the chassis number is to them!) Does anyone have "chapter & verse" on this issue?
  • Focus TDCi economy... 12 May 2007 (Forum)
Or is there possibly something wrong? Whatever it is, is undermining the car as a package, and coupled with the lack of character it's making me question whether it was worth the "upgrade".
  • I am a middle lane hogger! 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
and this acted like a snow plough throwing the water up on to the middle lane and the outside lane of the opposite carriageway. The inside lane had its two "tracks" of worn out surface from the HGVS covered in surface water thus making driving very difficult. So the middle lane it was! And, yes, of course, there were still cars travelling along with either no lights, or just sidelights on! I suppose, logically speaking , there will very rarely be drainers in the middle lane so therefore it will have a suitable camber to remove the water from it as efficiently as possible whereas the other lanes will have drainers and the water will often flood at those points first if drains are blocked etc?
  • Tyres - front or back? 31 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Right, I know this is covered in detail, and that new tyres should go on the back. But. I've just ordered a pair of Pirelli P6000 Powergy's for the Accord (2.2 i-CTDI Tourer). Weighed up what I wanted (80% motorway on cruise, 10% A roads, 5% mountain roads, 5% town) and took advice from the forum and from the very helpful man on Blackcircles.
  • Illegal, daft, both or neither? 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Driving up A46 dual carriageway north of Leicester at lunchtime today. Road not very busy but still a good few cars doing 70 or more, when up ahead of me, about 300 yards I spy a small vehicle occupying middle of the inside lane and I was gaining on it very quickly (doing about 60 having just come up a slip road).
  • Brake pad dust 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
My Scenic recently had squealing brakes and when I asked the dealer they said this is normal and is due to lack of asbestos etc and it is not covered by warranty (1 year old). They would strip them down but it would be chargeable. I blasted them with my power hose and this seems to have made a bit of an impact for now. My sister has the same problem with her C3, she has already had it in for the front drivers side to be stripped down and now the passenger side is doing the same, to the extent that I think the caliper is jamming as the wheel is heating up and car pulling to left.
  • tyres for Mondeo 28 May 2005 (Forum)
My 2003 TDC has covered 22000 miles, and i've just come back from holiday in Scotland. One tyre had to be replaced before I went away as it had a worn band, which looked as if it had been on the front, and kerbed badly.
