  • Evolution not revolution 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Looking around at how car designs have changed I can see the advantage of owning a Golf or Audi saloon way past their sell by date. The designs haven’t changed much over the years . Take a Mk 5 Golf coming up to 19 years old and it still looks fresh. Yet take a two year old Honda Civic and it bears no relationship to the latest model.
  • Automatic gearboxes.....good or bad? 1 Nov 2022 (Forum)
So which automatic gearboxes are good, and which are bad. Have a short list of a few cars. Audi A3 1.8 or 2.0     VW Arteon.  Lexus is300h, GS450h.  Skoda Octavia/Superb So how good/bad are the automatic boxes from these manufacturers.  CVT, DSG etc. Only do 5000 miles a year.
  • This can't be fake news, surely? 29 Feb 2020 (Forum)
A University of Helsinki study found that (quote) self-centred men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and lacking in empathy are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes (end quote).  All German cars, which is possibly significant? All mine have been French ..... :-)
  • Are we being charged too much for new cars? 2 Jan 2015 (Forum)
A number of years back Quentin Wilson was one of those campaigning about UK car prices compared with Europe. Just hear a neighbour's grandson recently bought an Audi A3 for £10,000 less than he would have done here. To my mind new car prices do seem to be getting too much. So, do others think we are being ripped off/charged too much?
  • All - How many car diesel engine manufacturers? 16 Oct 2013 (Forum)
There seem to be about 4 types, 1.6, 2, 2.2 and 3 litre engines fitted (excluding some smaller ones). How many manufacturers are there of these 4 sizes. Do Audi, Renault/Nissan, Mercedes, BMW, Citroen/Peugeot, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar/Land Rover, VW/Seat, Honda, Chrysler, Toyota, Hyundai etc all make their own?   If not, from whom do they buy the engine?
  • Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - VAG DSG Gearbox reliability 6 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I notice that the first VAG DSG gearboxes are now out of warranty, so people are starting to run them on their own budgets. Now that the Volkswagen/Audi DSG gearbox has been out a few years, does anyone have an informed opinion on reliability? What about owners - how many of you have had problems? I'm interested in a Passat 3.2 DSG and trying to guage my level of risk!
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - How long will it last 19 Apr 2013 (Forum)
July 04 but going really well, is it time to move on or could I get to 120,000 in another 4 years. Will it make 180,000 in 8 years. Is there a limit on this type of car. (PS neighbour has a N reg Audi 1.9 which seems to be approaching it's 16th year and still goes like a bomb)
  • Jaguar F type - Jaguar F Type's pram hood 5 Apr 2012 (Forum)
So sad to see that they have not gone for a folding metal roof which are so much better than old pram hoods.   Merc, Audi, Beemer and many others, even the MX5 and Renault have folding tin tops.   Do not undersatnd why Jaguar have stook with the hood off an old pram !   Hill Special
  • Traffic Cops, BBC 10 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I caught up with it on Sky+ and what got me the most was (for those who didnt see it) there was a guy who worked on behalf of a car dealer, was delivering a customers Audi TT and was clocked at 116mph on the dual carraigeway, unmarked police chased him for many minutes at extraordinary speed to catch him, doing 70 odd in a 30. And in the end he got a £350 fine and a 14 day disqualification.
  • BMW 740 4.4 V8 - Is Castol SLX Long Life II HTHS 3.0 FullySynthetic 4 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I found an old container of Castrol SLX Long Life II HTHS 3.0 SAE 0W-30 in my garage - can someone kindly confirm if this is a fully synthetic oil? Although I bought it for my Audi A4 3.0 (2004), would it be suitable for my 2001 BMW 740i Many thanks in advance
  • Car Evolution - why no "Mark" models anymore 18 May 2009 (Forum)
IIRC The Cortina, for example, went up to Mark V and I can visualise each of them based on that. However nowadays Audis, BMW, Mercs etc etc all have strange code numbers with each revised model. Why do they not all just go down the "Mark" route? Make my life easier!!!
  • Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - Argument about who is the Citroen C5 designer 2008 21 Jan 2009 (Forum)
When I wrote messages on youtube under the new Citroen C5 videos and adverts etc, someone said I was wrong thinking it was a Belgian who designed the car. Apparently it is Domagoj Dukec a Croatian aho had previously worked at Audi. I just want to check, is this absolutely correct please? I just like to have my facts right.
  • Mercedes Benz SLK (1996 - 2004) - 2001 2.3 CD Player 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
In stead of leaving original CD's to float around the car thought I would burn some copies but no matter what application I use they wont play(Windows Media Player, ITunes, Real Player) I burn from a PC . They will play however on home systems and in a new Audi. Any suggestions ?
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 06 2.0 d suspension raising? 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I love hte car, but I am a farm consultant and keep popping the front bumper off the car when it goes down a dip, or hits a rut in a farm drive. I do not want to go to the expense of buying an audi allroad or volvo cross country, but would just like to raise the toyota. Can anyone help?
  • National pride or what ? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I was standing there having my pre-arbeit morning stogie when it sort of came to me that almost all the cars lined up in the car park were German made. In the row I could see and count there were 32 assorted Mercs, BMWs, Audis and VWs. One lonely Mazda. Probably says a lot about why they still have a car industry..........
  • Do people really care about warranty? 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
articleid=17852 Kia and Hyundai's market share (based on no of cars sold in July 2008) % are 1.47 and 1.30 respectively. Compared to, Ford 15%, Vauxhall 14%, VW 8%, BMW/Peugeot/Toyota/Renault/Audi all hovering around 5% Citoren [3.74%] sold more than Mercedes [3.38%] I don't know how fleet sales can skew the numbers though.
  • Fuel additives: do you use them? 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I used to use Miller's Diesel Power Plus in my VW Golf GT TDI, and I plan to use their Euro 4 stuff in my BM. I've also given the Audi 2.0 FSI the odd dose of injector cleaner. Why do you/don't you use? What benefits have you seen (or think you've seen)?
  • Enthusiasts Shows 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
We would be willing to travel up to 100 miles from Sheffield Any suggestions on where to look Also any same suggestions for Audi's too so I can take my car one day Thanks
  • Dim-dip - where's it gone? 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
They do not seem aware that other motorists will see the outline of the car more quickly than the lights in poor weather. 2. Any other Audi drivers find that their headlights are poor on dipped beam? If so have you upgraded or just simply re-aligned?
  • Whats the most perfect car youve driven? 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Just the classiest, most comfortable, sublime car ive ever driven. Made me want one instantly. Much better looking than the latest model too. Rather liked the Audi A8 aswell, for its battleship style dashboard, but just doesnt quite have the X-factor that the Jag has.
