Warranty and Brakes 11 Feb 2024 (Forum)
My car is still under its manufacturer's warranty and I need the brake pads replacing on the front and possibly rear. I am pretty reluctant to pay inflated dealer prices but have read conflicting statements as to whether using non-OEM pads (for example) would invalidate the manufacturer's warranty. -
BMW 3 Series - Handbrake light stays on? 16 Feb 2023 (Forum)
My BMW 320d handbrake light stays on even when the handbrake is down. The dashboard says 'braking system drive moderately' with the handbrake sign next to it, the brake pads need doing & it says that on the vehicle status so not sure if the dashboard message has anything to do with that? It did recently have an MOT done with one of the advisories being 'parking brake travel getting high'. -

Volvo XC90 - Volvo XC90 - faulty brakes 25 May 2019 (Forum)
Rather impressed by The Telegraph for publishing this...hopefully Volvo will not let this happen again https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/katie-investigates/katie-morley-investigates-new-volvo-xc90-faulty-brakes-could/ This is what motoring journalism should be. Not fawning over the latest model and soft-touch plastics, but giving credit where it's due, and outing bad design/build when it's clearly evident. -
VW Polo - Emergency braking engaged for no reason 23 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Coming home this evening, I was rounding a corner at 30mph when the emergency braking kicked in for a second. It scared me witless. I should have a dashcam video. I will report this to the manufacturer. However, I’ve had a stream of faults from my car, a new VW Polo, and a loaner while mine was being repaired. -
Any - Automatic Braking 16 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We all welcome safety improvements. I notice an increasing number of cars with collision avoidance automatic braking of the car if a crash is likely. The theory seems excellent. But what happens after a few years to its reliability ? How do garages check it's state ? Are some makers better than others ? -
Autos L. Foot braking 22 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Some folks may find it ok but my R foot feels to have control while the L is like bowing a violin with a hammer. In an emergency the natural thing for me is to operate the brake with the R foot and surely instinct in that situation has to be right. Any thoughts? -
Audi A3 Sportback - Brake disc discolouration 18 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I have had a brand new Audi A3 Sportback for about three weeks. It is kept outside and has only done about 250 miles. From day 1, the brake discs have shown signs of yellowy discolouration, such that the front discs now appear almost gold in colour. I assume that this is an oxidation/rust issue, and if so, is it normal and what (if anything) should I be doing about it? -

Citroen C5 - Annoying "squealing" from rt. front Brakes. 11 May 2012 (Forum)
This C5 car has the Bosch Brake System. This squealing has persisted over a few months and it was suggested I change from "Hard" Pads to softer ones. I replaced with Metelex Pads but the noise persists. (the old pads were hardly worn). -
Toyota Avensis 08 2.2 estate - Front/ Rear Brake Pads 6 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Just thinking ahead but do you need any special tools when replacing the rear brake pads? I know on some vehicles you need to wind the piston in as it doubles for the handbrake - is this the same? I'm unable to get a manual for this 08 model otherwise I'd have gone and bought one.
