  • Rusted Vehicle From Garage 18 Nov 2015 (Forum)
After 6 months I contected the garage and was brusquely told it would be (open ended) longer, accept it or take the vehicle away. Considering costs of towing I elected for the former.I checked back again, same message. The vehicle was occasional and stored under cover, so I did not worry unduly. Some time later it appears the garage moved and therefore it was moved to a new location.
  • Land Rover Discovery 4 - Restricted performance 25 Sep 2015 (Forum)
and we would expect this will be unnecessary cost in any event. Is there anything else you could expect to be - the RAC man who towed me in suggested the ERG valves or the turbo pipes - but the engine does not make any bad sounds etc. We look forward to hearing from you. EMCS Newbury (25 September 2015)
  • Citroen picasso 1.6 hdi - Injector seals - picasso hdi - damage by garage 11 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking for some advise, my car recently started to make a tick tick noise, we took it to the local garage who advised it was the injector seals however this can be a tricky job and quoted us £200 max may come in less depending on the work, the garage called after 2 days to say one of the injectors was stuck and they would have to smash the head in order to get the injector out, at a cost of £780 with a second hand head with 30 day warranty, after calling some other garages we were advised that there should be no reason to smash the head and to get the car removed from that garage so we asked them to put the car back together so we could take it elsewhere, they advised this would not be possible as the car no longer run, we had to tow the car to another garage as it would not even turn over, the other garage removed the injector which now need to be replaced however upon starting the car it was clear the other injectors had been damaged so all 4 needed replacing, the car drove in perfect just with a ticking noise yet came out a non runner, I am unable to prove that the garage damaged the injectors but this is very obvious, how do I stand now as I don't see what I should be out of pocket due to the incompetance of the original garage, sorry for the long post...hoping someone can advise me
  • Honda Jazz Mk 1 (2006) - Immobilizer problem 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I bought the car second hand in 2010 and it only had one key, so we didn't have a spare to check this theory.  The RAC gentleman towed me to a Honda garage and on Friday they told me that I needed a new immobilizer and transponder, which would cost £538.  I said to go ahead and fix it, but now they're telling me the ECU may have "spiked" and they're still working on the car.
  • Vauxhall Astra - Garage / insurance advice 16 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The electrics malfunctioned and a loud banging noise could be heard when slowing down/applying breaks on the short journey home. The car was towed away a few days later as the battery had burnt out and without the battery being charged or replaced and the car being tested a repair estimate was submitted and approved. 4 weeks later the rear end repairs had been completed but unsurprisingly the car would not start.; a new battery was required as the battery would not charge.

  • Alfa Romeo 147 JTD 2007 - Failed clutch slave hydraulics/ falied clutch 30 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi, my clutch pedal went floppy overnight with no prior warning or changes to how the clutch felt etc. until I came to use the car the next day, it went from fine to completely slack and wouldn't go into gear. I had it towed to the garage and asked them to check the hydraulics on the clutch slave. They said they had checked it and it wasn't the problem and they would need to spend 8 hours labour to remove and identify which part of the clutch had failed.
  • Am I being ripped off? 11 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)

  • Mitsubishi Outlander - outrageously uneven tyre wear 11 Jul 2014 (Forum)
The tyres are extremely fat, as were the old ones, so much so that even when fully inflated they look a bit flat.  But they're not. Anyway a couple of months on, after many miles towing a caravan and a trip abroad, I now notice the inside tread wearing faster than the outside on the rear tyres. So I did what I should have done out of common sense - looking at the car from the back, as my GF drove off this morning, the rear tyres (I don't know what you call this in the trade) lean in  at the top, thereby placing more pressure on the inside where it meets the road.
  • Luxury German Make / 4 seat cabriolet - Breakdown 1 hour/ 50 miles after purchase 20 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The car would then not start (after 1 hour of ownership) and was towed to the local main dealer and has been there ever since.   The main dealer believe the problem is contaminated fuel, but can not confirm whether this was the small amount of fuel in the car when purchased or the fuel I put in immediately after purchase (I put in the correct fuel and the receipt to prove it).
  • Honda Accord i-CTDI Sport 2004 Diesel - Failure to Start 22 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, About a month ago, my car began taking about 10-20 seconds to start. Two days later, it totally wouldn't start. I called my local garage who had to tow the car away after they failed to start it at mine. At the end of the day, they called me back to say the EGR valve was faulty and needed replacement. I paid £900 to get a new EGR valve from Honda fitted into the car.
  • Mazda 6 Diesel Estate - Mazda 6 Not fit for purpose - Engine Fire 28 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have rejected a car within 6 months and the car was at the dealers premises after we stopped driving it. I just got back from work today and the dealer has had the car towed back to my house while my wife was out and parked it outside our house. It is a fairly long story that is best explained by reading the letter that i sent to the dealer when i rejected the car.

  • Peugeot 207 - Garage problems (mr clutch) 21 May 2013 (Forum)
I picked up the car from the garage yesterday evening and drove 27 miles 26.5 of them motorway  when I got to the end of the motorway the gear stick snapped leaving the car in gear. I had to have the car towed back to the original garage which costed me £158. Had to leave the car outside the garage and whent in this morning, which was told that there could be some pins that came off that was why the problem with the gear stick, After the car being in the garage for the whole day, I had to call the garage and see what was wrong and they saud that the gear box had a leak which was originally there and that the gear stick needed a whire to be replaced. which together will cost from £400 to £600.
  • Primera 2.2DCi - dead turbo? £'s to fix? 22 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Checks something in the turbo area of the engine (I am non technical). Finds oil where he shouldn't and tows me to the Nissan garage where I will check in tomorrow for analysis and repair! So big question I am scared of asking is how bad in terms of £'s could this be? New turbo fitted =£????. Also, the car is less than three years old and has been serviced by a main dealer according to the schedule.
  • VW Golf mk VI 1.6TDi (Oct 2009) - 60K service done - but expensive 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Two new front tyres   Now, it turns out the front tyres had worn out as a result of tow-out camber. I saw them - they were indeed almost bald along one side. It was a high mileage car when we bought it used at just one year old. Probably a former hire car. The garage replaced both the worn tyres with Potenza R050A Bridgestone 505 55 16R 91W (tubless) brand tyres.
  • citroen c3 2003 1.4 16v - c3 hdi starting problem 19 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I noticed that the fuel pump which runs off the timing belt has some type of round metal relay, do these need to be programmed in aswell? or would a good old tow just do the trick to try and start it
  • Vauxhall Astra - Are vauxhall liable - camshaft related 17 Mar 2011 (Forum)
t=78279&v=f#m1008632 Long story short, my camshaft snapped and on the same afternoon I got the recall / customer satisfaction letter regarding the bolts. I am out alot of money so far with AA charge, towing charge, car hire etc and I still don't have my car back, even though the dealerhip have had it for over 2 weeks. As Vauxhall are footing the cost of the repair does this mean they have admitted the fault was due to the recall letter and therefore they are liable for my costs?
