Nissan Sunny (1986 - 1991) - 1.4 12V H/B loss of power/revs on acceleration 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Son's 'student car' with coat hanger aerial accessory etc - starts OKish, runs OKish at high revs but on depressing accelerator get 'die off' (partic at lower revs and going up incline)which slowly picks up again and then seems to run OK. Checked Ignition side of things (but no expert) - plugs new and gapped OK, batt. -
audi stalling and oil leak 11 May 2007 (Forum)
I find the fault is slowly getting worse. Just prior to this problem the car had an oil leak which was dripping on the exhaust and was running rough and stalling. I took it to the local garage who cleaned the trottle body out and replaced the rocker cover gaskets on both sides. The car seemed to run fine after this for a short time. Also the oil leak is still present with the smell of burning oil on the exhaust and I now appear to be losing my coolant water. -

Noisy Peugeot 406 Aircon Compressor 28 Nov 2006 (Forum)
About three months ago I heard a loud `clicking' from the engine that we isolated to when the air con was engaged. I took the car to the guy that does our MOT's, his advice was that we needed a new compressor "run it till it breaks properly(!) then replace it". We have run the car for a bit longer without the aircon switched on (it always seemed to default to on when we switched on the ignition, and then we had to switch it off), but now we have the noise continuously, air con on or off. -
Poor radio reception from Sony 6CD unit 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
This problem is apparent both locally (Salisbury) and nationally. The unit is correctly setup. The CD side of things is OK and all works well. The warranty runs out in a couple of weeks and I have run out of ideas. The Ford dealer simply reports no fault found which is clearly rubbish. Help? -
Overheating Punto 24 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The engine got so hot that the plastic lugs holding the cambelt cover to the engine have melted. Car was running fine beforehand and starts and runs OK now, although the radiator header bubbles like a boiling kettle. Head gasket failure me thinks. Water level was OK a couple of weeks back when I checked and there have been no leaks onto the garage floor. -
Is this really fair? 16 Sep 2006 (Forum)
No helmet, no leathers, no insurance, no licence, no MOT etc etc. If he should run in to me and I am judged to have 'cut a corner' which leads to his death or injury I would be well hacked off. -
Auction prices ? too high 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The auction companies are being forced by the leasing companies to get better prices ,but both are benefit in the long run What is going on out there? Are they being too gready and running the prices up because at more than one venue ,you could see no one was bidding until the last few bids and that defeats the object of an auction surely ! -
Mitsubishi Galant - Noisy Engine @Start 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have just aquired the car and the engine is making a 'tappety' sound at start up which dies down once the car has warmed up (5-10 mins) and when warm it seems to be noiser than most engines when standing outside the vehicle with the engine running. I lifted the bonnet and left it running and the noise appears to be coming from the left handside of the engine block (the area with the plasctic housing at the 'end' of the block - where all the belts are located). -
C5 2.2 HDI uneven tickover 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
The car seems to be running OK otherwise, the fuel consumption having improved recently since I fitted a new air flow pressure sensor to the turbo intake (the previous one having been broken). Does this dianosis sound feasible? -
Peugeot 106 help please 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
or is there a bigger problem I should worry about here? The car runs fine all the time and no signs of overheating or any other problem. I'm just worried the head gasket is on the way out and i have big bills ahead. Can anyone please help as I'm not near a garage and will have to try and fix this myself unless its a serious problem Cheers Dave -
Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 starting problem 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I recently purchased a Peugeot 205 gti 1.6 and set about repairing all the bits that had dropped off. After changing the head gasket I found the car would not run. It turned over, would catch briefly then die. After setting up the throttle position sensor I managed to get it to run and it did so for a few days. However last night the car started to cut out when the clutch was depressed, or when left idling for any period of time, but restarted at the first turn of the key. -
Nissan QX 1999 3ltr 100k miles 17 Aug 2005 (Forum)
A friend is away on holiday and has left her QX on my drive to have a look at; I have noticed a number of faults: I) Air-bag light flashes- what is the likely cause of this? ii) Poor running- she complains the car occasionally feels sluggish. I just tried to start the car and it cut out each time unless I opened the throttle to make it rev a little. Once running the car settled into a reasonable, idle at an indicated 600rpm. -
Two Policies on One Car 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Thwn again, I don't think the remaining month of cover would be enough to insurance a 2001 Seicento when his is a H Reg Citroen AX 1.4d even if it was possible. Note the key her is that (A) he keep his policy running for the remaining month and (B) he's like to drive the car but he's too young to be named driver on wife's policy. Ta Rob -
Inexpensive motoring - how? 17 May 2005 (Forum)
Is it better to buy a 2-3 y/o car with a good reputation, eg Yaris, care for it and keep it for ...(how long), or perhaps cheaper still to buy an older Corolla (for example) and run it into the ground, but run the risk that it might have a dramatic failure early in its ownership that makes it expensive? My own circumstances are that we need two cars, mostly for shorter trips, with 2/3 people, and not much need for load/luggage. -
Fiesta stalling 14 May 2005 (Forum)
I think it's on the fuel side rather than electrical catastrophe, although quality of spark might be a factor I suppose. I haven't looked at anything yet. I took it for a run last weekend and it seemed to run fine to me. -
Ford Focus C-Max 2.0tdci zetec 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi I have a problem with the above named car. The engine runs but only at tickover. The car has only done 11500 miles. I diagnosed an ECU failure, the man who came to collect the car to take to the garage stated "its computers gone, its not going anywhere". -
mondeo overheating, help! 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Our elderly '94 Mondeo 2.0 petrol is overheating, but not losing water. Seems OK on several longish runs then symptoms reappear. Symptoms are after running for some time or idling for a few minutes; temp gauge creeps towards red, heater goes cold if set to hot. Stopped immediately and checked under bonnet; header tank is full almost up to cap, no signs of leak. -
Polo 1.4 2002- Emission light reset 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Anyone know how to reset this lamp without a 50-mile round trip to the dealer? Will it reset after it senses a period of normal running with correct cat operation?
