Brake shoes - a general question 16 May 2008 (Forum)
My theory, and I may be well off the mark, is that the leading shoe is where the piston pushes on the leading edge of the shoe and the trailing shoe is pushed on it's trailing edge. Correct? Does it then follow that in days of old when drum brakes were fitted to the fronts and had twin cylinders, that both shoes were leading? -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 Front Brake Pad Clip 14 Mar 2008 (Forum)
In replacing the front brake pads, I see the new pads have this interesting clip on outside of outer pad. As the previous set didn't have the clip, I'm unsure where/how this clip is supposed to be used. Does it just sit there? -

Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - Brake judder 31 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I recently had the car serviced which included changing the front pads and discs. Since then, I have been experiencing brake judder when coming to a slow halt (in queues/junctions etc) but not at any other times. The garage replaced the discs and pads for a second time but the problem persists. Anyone got any ideas what is causing this and how to sort it? -
Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - or Vectra parking brake failure 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Has anybody experienced problems with the Vauxhall Signum parking brake releasing it's hold on the car? I am presently looking at a case where the handbrake lever assembly had been replaced by a main dealer and shortly afterwards it had allowed the car to roll back off a driveway. -

Golf mk3 brake cable 8 May 2007 (Forum)
My university project group needs a rear brake cable for an mk3 golf. I would like some advise as to where to source one most cheaply. We could either buy new or used, we have already contacted a scrap yard who told us they didn't sell cables, I wonder whether this is the case with all scrap yards. -

Has anyone got any suggestions how I can get my brake discs off. I have tried whacking them with a hammer but they are not moving. It has been suggested to use a three legged gear puller. Do you think this will work ??? The vehicle in question is a MGF. -
Rover 75 2.5 brakes 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi All, I have a problem with my R75 in that the N/S rear brake disc is badly scored (for whatwever reason - stone in pad maybe). The pads are obviously bought as a piar & will be replaced at te same time, but my question is this - can the disc itself be replaced singly or do they have to be replaced as a pair, ie both rear discs at the same time? -
Mercedes E-class brake service 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I need to change the pads and discs on my E230 front brakes. There is no Haynes manual for the W210 series but dismantling the calaipers was quite straightforward. I hit a snag when trying to remove the old discs. I removed the set screws and tried mallet blows and prying with a crow bar but they are stuck fast. -
Corolla brake replacement-bigger ones? 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Corolla (2000) needs new front brake/pads soon. As Toyota saw fit to install non-ventilated discs at front, and drums on the rear, needless to say the fronts have taken a hammering and now need both discs and pads replacing. Is it possible to replace the standard fronts with bigger, more powerful units? -

Upgrading brake disks 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi all! Is there a real benefit in changing the original brake disks with "upgraded" disks of the same diameter? I mean do the extra line patterns and holes make any difference? I know that patterns are supposed to take the pad-powder away, and holes help cooling down the disk. -
