Mercedes E-class brake service - petrovitch
I need to change the pads and discs on my E230 front brakes. There is no Haynes manual for the W210 series but dismantling the calaipers was quite straightforward. I hit a snag when trying to remove the old discs. I removed the set screws and tried mallet blows and prying with a crow bar but they are stuck fast. What is the recommended way to free them? Any help gratefully received.

Although not for the same car, here is the advice I received to a similar question;

Common problem on the Mercs. They either drop off very easily or they 'weld' themselves on.

What I do is to take a 6" angle grinder and grind slots in the discs, between the wheel studs. You need to carefully grind *nearly* all the way through the disc. Then tap the disc. Once it starts to move at one edge it will come off easily.

Go easy with the hammering though - it leads to spalling of the bearings.
