Chevy Impala - Make a full size car get 200 mpg 10 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The fact of the matter is, gasoline powered vehicles burn finely divided particles or droplets that are sprayed from the carburetor or fuel injectors, into the engine cylinders. This is a very wasteful process of converting gasoline or diesel to energy. -
SEAT Toledo - My new car 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I've run / owned a whole succession of both Petrol and Diesel VAG cars over the last few years, but more recently felt the urge to scratch a "convertible itch". Given my propensity for VAG cars I’d considered an EOS, but given the reported issues with the complex roof mechanism I decided to stick with a conventional (cloth) type hood. -
Citroen ZX - Citroen ZX Turbo Deisel - XUD Head Gasket Repair 1 May 2010 (Forum)
When you have the engine locked in TDC on pistons 1 and 4, you can screw two M8 bolts through the cam shaft and diesel pump pulley. To lock the flywheel, use another 8mm bolt to lock the flywheel. But to access the hole to lock the flywheel in place, your best bet is to unbolt the starter motor from the bell housing. -
Toyota Prius not rubbish to drive shock! 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Underneath the screen in typical Toyota fashion is an ugly LED digital clock which looks like it came from a 70s Corolla. Two additional functions on the screen are an ?energy transfer? display and a fuel consumption meter. The former shows which energy source is doing what, whether the car is consuming or regenerating energy and what the state of the battery is. The latter shows the fuel consumption in 15 minute time intervals together with little tokens which you win when you manage to regenerate more than 50 kW of power. -

2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
First problem - no diesels offered on either of these two cars on Audis and BMW's US websites. So we compared an A3 3.2 quattro and a BMW 525 with similiar levels of trim. Cost of Audi c.$32k, in the UK £29k, thus like for like at present exchange rates US cost is £16k.....a saving of £13k. -

Any (preferably expendable) - NeoChoke1 8 Apr 2016 (Forum)
As well as being a crude work-around for my current problem, this could address general issues with fuel dilution on startup, and MIGHT be usable as a performance booster with a diesel. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=112610 Model 1 off Model 1 on That volume of gas probably isn't going to make much difference to a car (though I have a 125cc motorcycle...?) -
2,500 miles with the Aygo 9 May 2007 (Forum)
s seat and the pram seat went on the back seat. The car is frugal, I tend to wait for the warning then fill up with a set amount of fuel. 20 litres lasts 200 miles in urban traffic ? 45 mpg. I put 30 litres in last week and I have already done over 300 miles of mixed driving ? some high speed work and plenty of NSL roads. Insurance was £200 for my wife and myself and car tax has just been reduced to £35 a year. -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Grand Scenic - 1 yr / 16,000 mile report. 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The Renault 1.9dCi engine comes in for so much stick from people but, and touching a big bit of wood, so far I consider it one of the finest four cylinder diesel engines I've ever experienced. It has proven itself to be frugal, reliable, punchy and beautifully smooth and refined. It uses about half a litre of oil over 9,000 miles, doesn't smoke at all, and bursts eagerly into life, on the button, in all weathers. -
G-Wiz no parking or congestion charges 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
But to some eyes, even more advanced electric powered vehicles will not wean motorists out of their fossil-fuel-powered cars. So GoinGreen has to hedge its bets. As a stop-gap to satisfy customers who need greater range, it has started selling Smart cars powered by liquefied petroleum gas. It will soon offer modified versions of the Toyota Prius hybrid reportedly capable of up to 130mpg thanks to lithium-ion battery power. -
Nissan Micra - 14 day French road test 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
The cheapest diesel I saw was 1.10) The car was a tasteful, but rather forgettable metallic grey. French car colour preferences these days seem pretty tame. We stayed in an Etap Hotel our first night, and the following morning when I looked out at the car park it seemed that 90% of the cars were either silver or white. -
Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - What are my rights after buying a car privately? 15 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Before I had the chance to even pop the bonnet and check it over the old boy had to get back to his flat and do what ever old boys do and said "it's ok you can drive the car because your insured as I am fully comp on it" I started the engine after he went in and it appeared to sound fine, a little smoke but what I expected from a diesel (so I've been told) Drive slowly home about two miles away as it didn't have much fuel and parked it up over night. The next day I done all the insurance etc but had no reason to go out anywhere so the car stayed there over night again and the next morning I had to get up and take my partner home which is a 80 mile single trip and I was looking forward to it. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 1.9TDi 136k miles, 2nd interim report 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
A year ago I had the use of a hire Astra (1.6) petrol, which I didn't like at all, and a 1.8 Focus diesel; I could have lived with that, although there was no way of dimming the panel lights from their stun setting - I couldn't believe it... The supposed wonderful Focus handling seemed no better than the Golf in everyday sensible use (which is why I like HJ and Martin's tests for real life observations ? -
3 years with a Jazz CVT 29 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Clearly a 102bhp automatic supermini is not going to be that fast under any circumstances, but in the context of what it is, i found the package hugely impressive. We came to the Jazz from a turbo diesel Hyundai i30 with a t/c auto. Compared to that, the Jazz's ability to use all of what it had effectively was in a completely different league. With the i30, using kickdown to overtake could easily result in ending up in a gear where no more power was available, as if the gearbox was configured for a higher revving petrol rather than a diesel. -
Citroen DS5 - My Road Test Report 13 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The gearbox was not the most precise, suffering from a rather long throw, but the clutch was fairly light and allowed smooth progress through the gears. The gearing is high, even for a diesel, although this promotes a more relaxed driving style, and in fact I found the car deceptively quick when pressing on. My average fuel consumption for the day was 42 MPG, some way short of the 55 MPG combined figure, but there was quite a lot of stop/start city driving, and the engine had only done 2000 miles, so I would expect a figure in the high 40’s realistically. -
Hyundai i30 Estate - Hyundai. A modern ghost story. 9 Mar 2012 (Forum)
As a goodwill gesture, the salesman who was looking after us accompanied us to the nearby Morrison's filling station and put £20sworth of diesel in our tank to help cover the cost of our 160-mile round trip to see The Man Who Never Was. We could, of course, have stood and argued the toss. Twenty quid isn't even recompense for the fuel used, never mind the hours wasted. -
Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170PS DSG - a review 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
t available on the SE unless you chose the drivers information system option. The drinks holder above the radio has been changed to a drawer for fuel station loyalty cards and is now below the radio, as is the ESP button. They have added a ?bonnet open? warning to the dash and a few other symbols for options I don?t have. A couple of other interior changes I?
