Go-slow Protest In/Around Manchester Thursday A.M. 1 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Just wanted to let people of likely delays on Thursday morning peak due to mass go-slow protest by bikers on M60 and trunk roads into the city http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1052029_bikers_plan_city_fuel_protest_ I make no comment about the validity of things like this - I just wanted people to be aware so perhaps the mods will treat this as an alert rather a contribution to the fuel tax debate - maybe make it read only straight away? {Please continue discussion in the current "Fuel costs & surrounding debates" thread} -

Which are the most hassle-free engines these days? 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
What are the truly hassle-free engines out there at the moment - the ones which are nice and simple and idiot-proof, where there is little to go wrong? I would envisage engines with: no turbos, no complex fuel injection systems (such as in CR diesels), no timing belts, which are happy to run on basic grades of fuel, which do not use much oil between services, which don't have any major reliability problems or faults, and which are easy for mechanics to work on. -

Range Rover - New advertising - now eco friendly 11 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I was amused by the advert in Conde Nast Traveller for the Range Rover. "GO RESPONSIBLY The Range Rover TDV8 is 30% more fuel efficient than the petrol version it replaced." The small print for the "Go responsbily' message? Urban 12.6-19.6mpg Extra-urban 23.1-30.1mpg Combined 17.7-25.0 mpg CO2 299-376 g/km So that's top CO2 tax band (by a long way), urban fuel consumption barely into double figures, and they are marketing it as a responsible choice? -
Employees car/business miles - VAT Q? 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hello, Clarifcation required: An employee or director uses his/her own car for business mileage, the employee does under 10,000 miles a year, say 8000 miles, and claims 40p/mile for the mileage incurred via an expense claim detailing journey info though does not provide VAT receipts for fuel purchased. Thus the employer pays the employee 8000 x 40p = £3200. Under HMRC AMAP rules can the employer claim VAT back on the £3200 even though the fuel purchases are not receipted? Thanks. -
HELP !!!!!!! Audi A4 will not start !!!! 7 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It fires up and then cuts out after a couple of seconds. After trying a few times there was some smoke from the exhaust and a smell of unburnt fuel. Also the drivers information system is not working along with fuel gauge. I've tried disconnecting the battery for a while but it made no difference. Could it be the ECU ? or one of the million sensors !! -

306 rough idle and smoke 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
hi now ive finally got the 306 dt to start again it idles very rough and pushes out lots of white smoke, also when idleing the fuel primer has no pressure in it at all it's just soft and no pressure will build in it by pumping, does this indicate an air leak if so where is the likely source? i didn't replace the o ring on the fuel filter housing so im suspecting this is the fualt? -
no car week 8 Jul 2004 (Forum)
We are as motorists taking a bashing from politicians with ever increasing fuel prices speed cameras etc. It seems to be their aim in life to get us off the roads. I suggest a no car week and the whole country uses our public transport system. I would arrive at work just in time to go home and save all that money on fuel and parking etc. -
