  • Something interesting for £7k ? 21 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I am looking to spend around £7,000 on a replacement. I would prefer a coupe or convertible and I fancy an automatic gearbox. Annual mileage 10,000 with daily commute of 8 miles each way. More power would be good, minimum 200hp. My man-maths "budget" is the fuel economy. In my head any car that gets 30mpg or better is a winning proposition.
  • Peugeot 307 2002 5Door - Car wont start after stereo install attempt 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
LOL. basically i got this stereo set up yesterday, everything working fine except that when the car is turned off it forgets all the settings i set.. which meant the radio wasnt getting constant power when the car is off. to locate that i took the wires and started plugging them into other random wires, the wire i was connecting was the yellow wire from the stereo, ground is connected, well i look on my dashboard and the light for the airbag is on, i get worried and put the wires back where they are meant to be. and start the car, the car starts. headlights turn on themselves, wipers are also running. i try turn them off but nothing happens its automatically doing those, i turn the car off and these turn off, i try to start the car again and it wont start. the battery is fine and has the power to turn the car on, the starter turns, the car cranks but just wont start. i need a solution to this problem ASAP please, any help would be appreciated.
  • Which car has SWMBO chosen? 13 Dec 2016 (Forum)
What we need now for a second car is: - Small, nippy, easy to park and fun to drive on local journeys (mostly between 4 and 10 miles each way) but also with a big enough engine with sufficient oomph to hit the A303 and motorways (she is still doing some Reading-based work although most is from home) - Up to £20,000 - Petrol, manual - 5 doors (this is a friendly village community and people give each other lifts, and she doesn't like driving my automatic Volvo) -  Satnav, lumbar support, heated front seats and a spare wheel, although we don't mind if these are options. She's made a choice - any guesses as to what we've ordered?
  • VW Golf 1.6 FSI Auto 2005 - VW Golf 1.6 FSI Auto Tranmission fault? 16 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Hi My sister has just bought a used VW Golf 1.6 FSI Automatic from a Vauxhall dealer in Portsmouth, UK. As she drove it away from the dealer the petrol light was on so she immediately filled up with petrol. As she drove it away from the petrol station the car went into tiptronic mode and got stuck in first gear then the dashboard gear indicator went blank.
  • What 7 seater will suit me? 28 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I do @10000 miles a year mostly on A roads, B roads and country lanes as I live nearly an hour from the nearest motorway. I would like an automatic again but am not fussed about the badge. I am looking to spend £12k - £13k so most likely the car will be @3 years old.  I know that a Ford Galaxy powershift and Seat Alhambra DSG would fit the bill but as I don't need 6/7 seats that much I don't really want a car that large to drive all the time.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 01 2.2HDi "declared faults" ! 8 Jun 2015 (Forum)
The suspension apparently raises itself up for no apparent reason - can anyone shed any light on this? Googling indicates that the Hydractive system on this model automatically raises the suspension if it detects poor road surfaces (so that's ANY UK roads then...) - perhaps this feature is getting a bit over-zeaous...? alternatively it could be a problem more "physical" in nature - any Hydractive experts out there care to offer some insight?
  • Audi A4 SE 2.0 TDI Saloon (143hp CVT) - 2011 Reg - Any Red Flags - Audi Extended Warranty - Go-NoGo 15 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Hi All, My Audi is coming to the end of manufacturer's warranty of 3 years (End of this month) It has done about 31215 miles so far and I forecast less than 6000 miles per annum My quote with Audi for an extended warranty comes to £512 (0 Excess, Comprehensive, Without Roadside assistance) But wanted to take a general opinion of other Audi owners you had gone through the situation and know better - Is there any common red flags with Audi A4 2011 2.0 TDI 143 hp CVT (Automatic) that its better to cover with the warranty (For the miles I am forecasting and the miles the car has done so far) So far - My car has been maintained according to the Audi schedule and recently undergone MOT (Mar-2014) and a Full service / Oil change as a part of my service plan Any advice would be great Thanks S
  • Ford Focus 1.6 2012 - Ford Focus - Door Protectors 15 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have, on several occasions have realised my Ford Focus 2012 has not locked properly. This car has the automatic door protectors which are connected to the door mechanism. The problem I find is that you have to be careful that you give the door extra force when closing. This does not mean slam but, failing to give the door a good shove, results in the door left open a jar.
  • Chevrolet Aveo - I have been sold a clocked Chevrolet 11 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The car looked immaculate, had an RAC report provided by the garage and all seemed in order. So far we had to change the solenoid in the gear box (it's an automatic) and the top plates in the front suspensions. All was replaced under waranty by the garage that sold me the car. Had the MOT done last week (new style certificate) and I discovered that the last MOT reading before the one showing 5000 miles was in fact 28.000!
  • Volvo V70 - fire hazard/damage who is responsible/pays 22 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I was expecting a more concerned reply from Volvo. Is this not a defect if the manual says there should be an automatic cut off once temperature is achieved? Who is resonsible for repair?
  • Peugeot 508, 3008; Mazda 6; Jazz; Colt; Yaris - What car to choose with £12000 budget 13 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, I am looking for a car within 12K budget, but it's hard to decide and I really need some expert opinion to help me choose :-) I am looking for an automatic car that will be used for at least a year and then sold. Thus, cars with low depreciation are with high priority. I prefer buying either new or approved car. For example I was looking in Approved Peugeot 3008 and 508 models that after just a year lost about 40% value.
  • Nissan Micra SE K12 2003 - EPS / Power steering assembly pro 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
A solution would be to get a recon unit fitted (cost around £200 plus fitting) but, obviously, the dealer would not touch such a solution.   My question is whether a recon unit would automatically communicate with the rest of the car electronics without the intervention of dealer-type diagnostics.  Another niggling worry is that this fault is hiding one or more other faults in the NATS system.
  • Importing a Japn Grey Import - How ??? 30 May 2011 (Forum)
I am considering changing my elderly Corolla hatcback for a biger automatic estate car, and was wondering about getting a grey import (I already have a celica convertible grey) I was thinking of something like an Avensis  estate  (think they call it Caldina) or Corolla estate or something similar.
  • Toyota Corolla - What can I do with an old French registered car 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My son was working in France last year and bought an ancient, left hand drive, Toyota Corrolla automatic. It only cost him £400 and has been a fantastic workhorse, touring both France and Italy before driving back to the UK with not a spot of bother. Unfortunately he has now gone to Spain to work and left the car with me and asked me to scrap it.
  • 2008 (2003-2008) Honda Accord 2.4 tourer - HID headlight aim 11 Feb 2011 (Forum)
On unduating roads this means that oncoming vehicles get the full blast. The manual says the aim is set automatically on the HID versions. Car came with a full 12 month MOT and I took it back for the workshop to recheck. They say that it is set correctly. What do I do? Take it to a Honda garage in the same group who may have more idea about this car?
  • Peugeot 607 - 607 3.0 Auto 'Clonks' into Reverse Gear 31 May 2010 (Forum)
The car seemed to drive okay into the auction hall but I was a bit worried about the clang when I put it into reverse? Is this jolt normal when a tiptronic automatic 607 3.0 is put into reverse or does it indicate something wrong with the gearbox. Given that the car is in an auction it's impossible to test drive it before buying it. I've never had a 607 before but a few years ago I had a Citroen C5 3.0 with the same engine and the tiptronic gearbox.

  • Chrysler Neon II (1999 - 2006 ) - 2001 2.0 Error: P0755 Shift Solenoid B Malfunction 17 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My car, an automatic, is currently in the garage, has been for almost 2 weeks but the mechanic hasn't a clue what could be wrong with it. He has checked the most obvious things from this error, just info that could be found online, but has come up with nothing.
  • Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 01 1.4 can't re-fit drivebelt after removal 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I can't seem to relax the tension on the tensioner in order to fit the belt along it's intended path and then tension the belt. As far as I can gather, there are 2 tensioners and as the car has A/C I *think* it has the automatic tensioner (there's a vertical spring going upto the tensioner pulley & the square hole in the tensioner assembly that I apparently should insert a 3/8" bar to do the levering) and that I should be able to lever the pulley back, fit the belt and then let pulley spring back into place.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1996 petrol auto - keeps cutting out 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
An acquaintance has a 1996 Astra automatic, 1600 or 1800cc she thinks. She says the model is a GTX (I can't find it listed in CBCB). She has had it a year or two, bought from a dealer in Brighton, mileage allegedly 58,000. It hasn't had an enormous amount of use but hasn't been left standing longer than three weeks.
