  • peugeot 406 leaking injectors 1999 model 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
But no problems when foot put down. (pulls away fine). But I have recently notice that one of the injectors has diesel fuel in the wells around it. Cleaned the wells up and fuel came straight back. Took to garage told needed new injectors. expensive job. Is it possible it just needs new seals and would this fault cause the above problems Thanks for any help Ian.
  • Engine Technology 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have been interested in reading about the efficency of petrol engines, diesel engines, and for every gallon of fuel 3/4 of it is wasted, it got me thinking whether modern engines are more efficent. On the other hand anyone heard about stirling engines, they are external combustion engines, and are reputed to be 80% efficent, wonder if any manufacturer is thinking about introducing them.
  • Blue smoke on deceleration 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? I have fitted new injectors and checked that there is no air in the fuel lines, changed the fuel and air filter. These seem to have helped but still very imbarrasing on short journeys to work on cold days! Please can anyone help?
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee - LPG or diesel Grand Cherokee or Mercedes ML 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have been looking at the Grand Cherokee (which I have owned before - earlier model) and cannot decide if I should go for LPG (which I have had before) or diesel (which I drive at the moment - pickup truck). The vehicle on petrol does 17mpg in both the 4.0l straight six and the 4.7 V8. The diesel does 29 mpg. With the difference in fuel cost there is not  lot in it.

  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2001 2.0d trouble cold starting and code P1220 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It is showing code P1220 on test. It has already had a one way valve fitted in the fuel pipe so obviously the problem was known to the previous owner. Are there any other suggestions I could try before changing the fuel pump (a cost I cant really afford)? If it is the fuel pump - why does it start all day with no problems?
  • Bimbos and electric motor bikes 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
When the cell is discharged you can make tea with the effluent. The fuel cell will be charged from a hydrogen creator the size of a shoebox which is fed with bio-ethanol fuels derived from soya or sugar cane. I can imagine London being full of them when diesel and petrol are £1 a gallon and the congestion charge ten times that.
  • What is going to happen with commercial vehicles after 2030 as they are all diesel-powered at present? 18 Nov 2020 (Ask HJ)
Is this new 2030 ruling for the UK only? If so, what is the rest of the world doing on this? Also, as the majority of our cars are now made outside of...

  • various - VAG CR diesel maintenance costs 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Whilst diesel pump prices are notably higher, a diesel is approx. 30% more fuel efficient than a petrol of comparable power output.  Diesel belt-cam changes are £500 a pop, every £60K or 4 years.
  • Volvo C30 - Pat (Eolys) Fluid 10 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I towed it to the local garage where they investigated and showed me what they believe to be the issue. The diesel they removed from the car was a deep yellow/orange, so they think that the Pat fluid is not mixing into the diesel correctly, made worse by a small amount of fuel in the tank. They believe that I probably need a new Pat fluid sensor and need it calibrated so that the correct amount is put into the fuel.

  • Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - A3, A4 or Honda Civic 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I start a new job in Jan and will be doing 80 miles a day. I've been looking at the above diesel models and test driven the A3 2.0 sport manual and auto, and the Honda Civic 2.2. I have around £9,000 to spend. Fuel economy on both is good, the rear spoiler on the Civic is annoying and I thought the gearbox on the A3 was smoother.
  • Renault - Master - 96 2.5 too much oil- no engine start 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Dear All, recently I put too much oil in the engine of my Renault Master 1996, 2.5 diesel minibus (110,000 miles). At the MOT check when at high revs the van started chucking out black smoke, when the tester turned off the ignition, the engine still ran. Looks like oil got sucked up into the fuel system.
