Buying a small/medium size car

I am looking to buy a Audi A3 Sportback sized car, which I will keep for five years and about 20K miles per annum. Is the Mazda 3 a good choice, and if so what engine?

Excellent choice and it would be my choice. For 20k miles a year you need the 2.2 150PS Skyactiv diesel that should give you 55-60 mpg. This also comes as a 6 speed torque converter auto with a 5-10mpg fuel economy penalty.
