LPG Problem - Rover 820 6 Jun 2003 (Forum)
However, upon leaving the Ferry in France the car refused to run on LPG. It starts up fine on Petrol, but as soon as the LPG system switches over automatically the engine stops dead immediately. At first she thought the v.hot weather in France was the problem, but when back in the UK it still would only run on Petrol. I've tried looking at the obvious - loose wires, etc, but to no avail. -
Red Light Cameras 28 May 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone out there ever been in a similar situation, and given the facts, is it worth her while to go to court to provide mitigating circumstances, or will she be given the 3 points automatically? -
omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
Hello to you all, I hope you can help me...... Does anyone have an OMEGA 2.5 TURBO DIESEL AUTOMATIC and if so can you tell me if the problem Im having occurs with your car, the reason I ask is one person tells me its right, and another tells me its wrong... Ahhhhhhhhhh ! THE PROBLEM - when driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car is in "n" position and coasting. -
Honda H23 blown head gasket 27 Apr 2003 (Forum)
This has brought the repair down to a more reasonable £500. Thing is, I'm really puzzled as to how on earth the gasket blew? It's an automatic to start with, no red line driving since I've had it, not that it's easy to do that with an auto. No cheap oil on my part either; always Mobil 1. Always serviced and looked after. One of those things? -
Mercedes G-wagen 8 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I am contemplating the cheaper selectable 4WD version built before 1990 but still around £4000-6000 for the later ones. I have my eyes on a LWB manual 5-cylinder 300GD but would the 280 petrol (automatic) be easier to live with. I nearly bought a very smart black diesel soft top a few years ago but had higher mileage requirements then and it was going to be too slow for everyday use. The VW Tristar I bought instead was a fantastic vehicle but had to go when the 2-year warranty expired and I was looking at hefty bills on my own (eg ECU under warranty £1300). -
strange idle on 'M' Fiesta 13 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Having once owned an old XR2 that did similar things, I suspect that these issues may be the fault of a duff automatic choke. Is anyone in a position to confirm my suspicions - she is taking it to the garage on wed to get it MOT'd and would like to get it fixed then, but is worried about just asking the garage to 'fix it' without having an idea of what may be wrong. -
2017-2018 - Skoda Yeti advice 24 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I have had some great advice and I think I have narrowed down my search to potentially upgrading to a Skoda Yeti Petrol.I am looking for a newer model 2017 to 2018.I an thinking of an automatic as well. there seems to be a lot available which is great and there are so many editions and types and also many which are higher miles and therefore cheaper. I find myself thinking I could go for a higher miles Karoq which would be newer for the same price as a lower mile 2027 Yeti. -
Mazda 3 - £12-15k reliable and comfortable daily 11 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Will be doing 30 minute motorway commutes and usual town driving a few times a week as well. My priorities are comfort and reliability, and budgeting £12-15k. Would want an automatic considering a lot of time is spent in rush hour traffic. Considerations Ive made so far Mazda 3 (2019+): seems to get very frequently suggested on other sites; I really like its looks as well as interior with physical controls. -
BMW 320i F30 - Car isn't fully stopping after sharp braking 12 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I brake but it still tries to move, I put the handbrake on and its still trying to move. What is this? It's a BMW 320i, used, 2012 model, its an automatic. I'm worried that I'm going to have an accident or get flashed/recorded and done for going through a red light, even though I don't fully go through it I get into the junction before the car eventually stops. -
Juke or yeti? - Best larger reliable car on a budget 24 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I am considering selling my Yaris and getting a bigger slightly newer car such as a Skoda Yeti or a Nissan Juke I think I would get around £4,000 to £5,000 for my Yaris and I was hoping to get a newer car for no more than say £11-12,000.Ideally I would like an Automatic this time with some mod cons like heated seats parking camera bluetooth etc but I also want it to be very reliable and relatively cheap to run and maintain, thank you -
Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tuscon, Vauxhall Mokka - 'New' SUV 9 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Just wondering if anyone can advise me a little in my search for new car. I am quite a tall chap so am after SUV size. I also want an automatic, adaptive cruise control and an in-built satnav (preferably one that doesn't require spending every few months to update). Those are my main 'wants'. The vehicles I have it whittled it down to at the mo are the CX-5, Mokka, Grandland and Tuscon. -
All - Indicators 23 Feb 2022 (Forum)
ocid=msedgdhp">Drivers risk £5,000 fine and nine penalty points for simple indicator mistakes (msn.com) I think this article is a bit OTT, but I bring this up because of things I have seen whille out in the truck, and confirms for me that new drivers automatically have a handicap because INSTRUCTORS ARE NOT TEACHING THEM RIGHT. 1 ~ Cars from the same school both coming onto a main road, both have to turn left or right as there is no way of going straight on, yet neither of them are teaching the pupil to indicating their intent. -
Vauxhall Meriva - Shocking MPG 29 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Apart from a slight squeaking noise while idling - which the mechanic said is just the new tensioner belt he fitted needing tightening a bit, a code comes up when starting the engine asking for an oil change which was done last year as part of the full winter service. The mechanic said it comes up automatically at 50000 miles and I checked the oil level which is fine and the oil is still straw coloured. There doesn’t seem to be anything else wrong. What could be causing this sudden major drop in mpg? -
Honda Jazz - Is it wear & tear or the garage had done a bad job 9 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hi. My car is Honda Jazz Automatic 2010 year model. Back in July 2019, the car passed the MOT at Honda garage with advisory saying: Repair as soon as possible (minor defects): Nearside Front Upper Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated (5.3.4 (b) (i)) I immediately sent it to another independent garage (the cost is cheaper than Honda garage) to fix it and paid the total cost of £108 Today the car just passed MOT with the same advisory as below: Repair as soon as possible (minor defects): Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated Split (5.3.4 (b) (i)) I was shocked to see this. -
VW Golf MK7 - Strange happpenings. 13 Jan 2021 (Forum)
After an hour or less we go back to the car via the pay station and pay for our time. When we approach the exit barriers it should lift automatically (ANPR) the barriers but doesn't so have to offer up our ticket to the scanner. Right having set the scene. After we left, the first week an Amber warning Triangle appeared on my instruments and this was due apparently to a front parking sensor not working. -
volvo - What is the best car for me? 10 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I am in need of a car that has the following: - decent high up drive level - decent MPG - preferably diesel, though not essential - decent boot space I have been looking at Volvo XC70/90, these come up trumps in most areas, but I'm not a fan of anything Automatic. I drive a 200TDI defender 90, so prefer the gearstick. I realise any SUV or taller vehicle won't be the best on the long drives, in comparison to an estate like the xc70, octavia, bmw, subaru, etc, would just be good for a taller driving height. -
Vauxhall Astra - 2010 Astra Mk6 engine seized, worth repairing? 18 Apr 2020 (Forum)
My Dads automatic Mk6 Astra suddenly seized up over the weekend, no warning signs, just heard some slight metalic rattling, drove it about a mile to his nearest garage and it completely seized up en route with smoke pouring out of the engine. -
Car accident where other driver is trying to rip m 11 Aug 2019 (Forum)
We were both stopped at a red light and I didn't realise that after I had stopped the car, it started moving again (like when you let go of the brake in an automatic car). This meant that it hit the car in front of me at something like 2mph (or thereabout). Now I left some scratches on the car in front of me from my grill, which should be a simple repaint of the bumper (£200-£250). -
Driving with a broken (left) foot 6 Aug 2019 (Forum)
We are going camping in 3 weeks, so might need to rent an auto to fit everything in (the Yaris Hybrid isn’t big enough). An automatic car is a lot more than a van to rent, it seems, so I wondered if anyone rents auto vans? I’m not sure camping will be much fun with my foot in a big boot, but it’s all paid for and we are going in a bigger group. -
Seat Ateca vs VW Tiguan - Seat Ateca or VW Tiguan for Motability Lease 31 May 2019 (Forum)
You guys have given me good advice in the past so back for more. My Motability lease car is due for replacement soon. I need a comfortable automatic car that easy to get in and out of and a large boot for hoist and mobility scooter. It cannot be too big as it won't fit on the drive and must be good both in town and on the motorway. My shortlist is Seat Ateca diesel or petrol ( petrol slightly higher deposit) or VW Tiguan Match 2L diesel, all are 150bhp.
