Help choose a car 4 Jan 2021 (Forum)
28yr old male, 40 mile commute each way daily, mostly motorway. Budget approx 12-14k, would consider finance/lease although presume not very cost effective given mileage? Ideally after a smaller sized car (hatchback/coupe/saloon) with good mpg, reliability and comfort. 1 year no claims, currently have fiesta 58 reg 1.25 petrol. -
All - Main Dealer Profit Margin For New Vehicles 7 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Does anyone have any information on other manufacturers? I was a little suprised that the margin was so low. Obviously money to be made on the finance packages etc but thought the base car margin would have been higher than 7.5%. -
VW Polo - Emissions scandal 20 Oct 2015 (Forum)
My girlfriend bought a VW Polo in December 2114, she has had a letter from VW saying it is affected with the emissions scandal. She bought it second hand through a VW dealership with finance also through VW. The question I have could she hand ther car back asking for a full refund rather than just taking it back to be sorted out -
Alll - Repossessed cars for sale 14 May 2015 (Forum)
I'm new to this but does anyone know anything about an outfit called Repo? They sell cars repossessed by finance companies at well below market price. They ask for money up front and deliver the car to your door but promise a full refund if you are not happy with the car. These are nearly new vehicles in most cases and the discounts are huge. -
Buyacar.co.uk - Any good? 8 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Stumbled over it a few days ago and on the surface of things it looks fairly promising, some reasonable deals on certain cars and what looks to be their own finance facility. Obviously no 'extras' as you might get from a dealer, but some reasonable list price savings by the look of things. Anybody used them? -
FIAT Doblo - To Doblo or not to Doblo? 20 May 2010 (Forum)
Should I trade in for a new petrol Doblo whilst my current one has some value or stick with my 1.3 diesel? Tempted by 0% finance and put off my diesel in the long term as planned to keep it for few years. -
Uninsured Hotspots 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/motorinsurance/7242996/Britains-worst-hot-spots-for-uninsured-drivers.html The article talks about hefty fines of £200........................ £200 fine seems very low when these drivers are avoiding insurance premiums of £1500+ / year. 2/3 of my neighbours have sons/daughters in the 17/18 bracket and £1500 seems the base premium - makes the £500 on driving lessons look the cheap part of the exercise! -
Lots of oil about............. 5 May 2009 (Forum)
Telegraph article on lots of crude surplus to demand.......... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/5274121/Rising-reserves-of-unused-oil-put-strain-on-storage.html We of course are paying high prices for petrol/diesel and yet the laws of supply and demand has not brought down prices .....indeed they have risen lately. -
Toyota Yaris TR Interest Free Deal 31 Oct 2007 (Forum)
At the moment Toyota is offering £500 cash back of the deposit (drivethedeal.co.uk website) when finance is taken out with the dealer. Does anyone know of any pitfalls with this type of deal please? Thank you for you any replies. -
DVLA - Not fit for purpose? 15 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My wife works in the finance industry. One of the forms of id she is allowed to accept for money-laundering and fraud regulations (two are required) is a drivers license. This week she received an interesting letter from the DVLA. -
European car market profitability 10 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Besides the luxury marques, the profit made from each unit sold in Europe can't be all that much considering that the average car is relatively small by world standards (ie Focuses, Polo). Bigger car usually means bigger profit. Ford recently made more money from finance than from direct car sales, with only the F Series pick ups maintaining the balance sheet. -
Professional sales advice req'd 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Was passing dealer this afternoon and the options they've given me are: a. Go for another colour b. Wait for factory order (~8 weeks) but don't get the 0% finance. (Just read the manufacturer website and I think they should be able to get the 0% on a car reg'd before Sep 30th) c. Pay another £1000 to go up to the next model variant and get the car in two weeks. -
Stitched up by Audi main dealer? 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Or, much as I expect, have I just been a little foolish and need to swallow the difference between trade price and finance owed thanks ! -
Ford Puma ST - Gap insurance: Owner not insurance policyholder 22 Apr 2025 (Forum)
We want to purchase gap insurance but have a query I hope someone can answer. My husband is the registered keeper and the finance is in his name. However, I am the main driver, so I am the policy holder for our comprehensive insurance and my husband is a named driver. Would we be covered by an ALA gap insurance policy? -

All - Parking Charge Notices 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Interesting that the Telegraph recenlty in Finance pages has an article about not having to pay such non-council notices for parking on private land and includeds basic info about how to appeal. Hope this will filter to the Motoring seciton where the advice recenlty has been to roll over and pay these charges "since the are contractual under civil law". -
TR7 - Buying a seized car 28 Dec 2012 (Forum)
As I understand it the car would have been seized for a different debt as it is old so unlikely to be outstanding finance on the vehicle itself. I'm presuming the car won't have a V5 either. What do we need to ask the seller? How do we protect ourselves legally if purchasing such a car? Many thanks for any help. -
"Unlucky cars" 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Have a look at this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/8560451/The-10-unluckiest-cars.html It's a list of the cars which have the most claims for accidents as a percentage of ownership. There are a lot of Hondas! Is this because the over 75s who like to crash into things (see last week's old lady stomping on her accelerator only to find that she was in reverse in her automatic - she rather spectacularly managed to park on top of a Saab) are willing to claim and they all drive the Jazz? -
Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - Do you think this is a good deal ? 12 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, I have been offered the following on a Freelander 2 GSe 2.2 Man - brand new unregistered : Discount price to £22728 PX Allowance £12000 (2007 07 Focus ST3 - 17,000 Miles) 0% Finance for 2 years. Seems to be a decent deal - several dealers I tried just wouldn't budge on price ! -
PCPs and the fall of the expensive motor 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
s 12-18 months ago when things were looking rosy, when the PCP ends and the dealer has to honour the future guaranteed value, what will this mean for us all? Are some car finance houses going to be stung? Just pondering.
