  • Advanced driving - good or bad? 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
So, do you think advanced driving training is worth it or not? IMO this discussion would be better if we stuck to the principles and just use details for illustrative reasons.
  • 54 Focus 1.8i - What SUV to replace a great car to drive? 22 May 2017 (Forum)
It's mainly for me and the wife i.e. 2 people in the car and I am looking for something where you sit higher up and is comfortable for long trips. Being old school i actually like a car that drives well and has a manual box, we also prefer an opening sunroof over air con but that seems to be a big ask these days.  We have test driven the CR-V, Qashqui, CX3, ASX, C-HR, X1, Tiguan, GLA, Tuscon, Q3 and have either found them poor to drive, or constantly jittery, or not enough passenger legroom in front or passenger seat won't raise, or not very high or very poor internal trim for the money being asked.
  • dvla revoke licence revoked any advice please! 21 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I've had mental health probs for over 20 years, finally diagnosed in April so tell dvla & they say ok to keep driving if psyciatrist says so, & he said absolutely fine so have been driving since. Got letter yesterday saying my licence now revoked, gp & psyciatrist completely baffled as both told dvla fine to drive.
  • 2002 1.2 16v Corsa - oil problem 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi All. Got the following problem... Drive the car 12 miles from cold, sounds sweet n quiet, but get to my destination and it  sounds like a tin of nails. After 2 hours sounds fine on start up, drive 15 miles, sounds like a tin of nails again.
  • Mitsubishi Space Wagon - Garage stumped! 24 Mar 2014 (Forum)
5.replaced sensors in the exhaust system 6.replaced the engine head, claiming the fuel pump drive from the camshaft was broken. 7. replaced the car computer.   They claim all the readings on the computer analysis testings are correct. So I collected the car BUT, after driving less than 1 mile -  the car still has the same problem.
  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon - DPF too regular regeneration 23 Aug 2010 (Forum)
does it matter? (i.e. is there expensive EOLYS fuild needed for this car?) 4. Is it best to keep driving / go back out while its happening?(as I did). 5. Is it my driving style (generally lazy, good mix of dual carriageway/city and a spritied drive once a week - I get 44mpg). Is this anything to worry about?
  • Fiat 500 vs Hyundai i10 18 May 2009 (Forum)
After weeks of consideration and a couple of test drives the Mrs and I are back from a head to head test drive of the two cars. Before the test the Fiat was the favourite. Cute looking, stylish, well equipped, perky and "fun" - the Mrs was almost ready to buy one without driving it.
  • Landrover off-road experience - truly amazing 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Went to Landrover off road experience today. It consists of 90 minutes off road driving. I find every moment enjoyable. I had absolutely no previous off road driving experience. Yet I faced no problem as such. The car was Diesel Freelander auto. The terrain had mud and ruts, wet marshland, logs, steep up/down hills etc.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.4 Meridian - Cutting Out??? 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The car originally was just stalling at junctions and would idle irratically, and was slighly jerky when releasing the accelerator, i continued driving it for a few weeks, before i replaced the idle speed control valve (advice from internet) The car seemed to work fine for the day, irratic idling gone, jerkyness gone, although the car didnt seem to pick up aswell, i was just pleased that the car was driving better.
  • Driving in Argentina 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
It was an eye opener and I have to say I rather enjoyed it. But then I was a passenger and not having to drive that way. Off motoring ? BA is a great place. Safe by South American standards (Cops everywhere) and the best steaks I?ve ever had. Even better it was 28 deg C and the pretty girls were out ;-).
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - (yr 2000) Automatic Gearbox Problem 13 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My problem started immediately after..when selecting between drive and neutral or reverse a distinct clonk appeared...then over the weekend the car would randomly stop engaging first when i came to a stop. I hoped it would dry out but on Monday I broke down and the car struggles to move when i engage drive or reverse.

  • 4WD vs Traction Control/Quality Tyres 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Basically I am after a reliable hatchback or estate which is occupant safe, economical and comfortable to drive. Ideally automatic but not necessarily. Budget up to say £12000 or so. New/2nd hand fine. Fiesta/Polo too small. I do not drive fast or aggressively, but most of my driving (15000miles / year) is on B roads and country roads.
  • "Medical" vans 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
This was the first van like this that I have seen, and the only thing that sticks in my mind is the truly dangerous driving. I probably didn't pull over as soon as I could of, but I was worried that if I moved from my lane or touched the brakes to pull into a gap he would have hit me. He was that close. Definitely the worst bit of driving I have seen in a long while.

Am I missing something? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Was there any need? 16 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Now I live on a cul-de-sac, on the last bend before said dead end. Tonight, I do my usual on return. I drive to end of road, do a U-Turn, drive past my house and reverse in. At least I tried to. However, as I was approaching my drive on the correct side of the road (doing no more than 10mph), some blonde bimbo in a black R reg Punto comes tearing up the road at a completely inappropriate speed and stops in such a way as to block my way, indeed she nearly crashed into me, trying to cut the corner.
  • Hell is other drivers... 22 Sep 2002 (Forum)
To be honest, most drivers drive reasonably well but when the majority of my journeys to and from work have at least one "incident" I have to start thinking that there are quite a few selfish and/or incompetant drivers out there.
  • Ford Kuga - Towing question - petrol vs diesel 10 Apr 2025 (Forum)
My last few cars have been diseal but after a discussion with a salesman at Ford he suggested a petrol car as diseal is being phased out and in 10 years time when I come to change cars this could have a effect on part exchanging or getting any value.  I don't drive many miles, I work within 3 miles of home and family & friends live within 20 mins drive. Once a year we drive to Cornwall pulling a trailer with camping stuff approx 300 miles each way. My partner is admiant we need a diseal for this purpose as a petrol would not pull a trailer.
  • High cars, not 4 wheel drive, preferably Japanese? 16 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I don't want an import because I am having to give up current imported Honda due to unavailability of spares.  I don't want 4 wheel drive because then you lose luggage space. We do regular car boot sales and need space, but we want a car that is still easy to park and use daily. A bit larger than a Toyota Verso. Not much to ask, is it??
  • Mercedes Benz 300sl - The Sun's out the tops going down 3 Jun 2024 (Forum)
My mum can't drive so she's promised it to me in her will and has agreed I can use it.  Any advice from back roomers on a nice drive in the South East to take it on?
