  • VW Polo Gti 2010 - Rejecting my car, liability admitted 5 May 2012 (Forum)
I have oil issues with my Polo Gti which I purchased from a Volkswagen dealer on 31st May 2011 at just over 6,000miles. I noticed the car used an excessive amount of oil in the forthcoming miles and in November 2011 I took the car back to dealer and expressed my concern.
  • Daimler and Chrysler to split? 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Analysts suggested a Chinese carmaker bent on expansion would find it attractive if the price was right, while linking Chrysler up with Renault or Volkswagen could offer small-car expertise Chrysler lacks. If the poor range sold by Chrysler UK (except 300C) is anything to go by the future is certainly not too rosy. Any one want a Chrysler...................?

  • US carmakers economy unchanged in 15yrs 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Eight major manufacturers account for nearly all sales, but fall into two groups for fuel performance. Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Toyota Motor Corp., Hyundai-Kia Co. Ltd. and Volkswagen AG all make vehicles, mainly cars, that average between 23.5 mpg and 24.2 mpg, the EPA found. General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co., DaimlerChrysler AG and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. all make vehicles, many of which are the most popular SUVs and pickups, that get between 19.1 mpg and 20.5 mpg.
  • Top Cop nicked at 128MPH! 17 Feb 2002 (Forum)
It was a case of traffic cops catching their boss, as Greg Duncan is director of traffic management in the department which controls the provincial traffic department. Duncan, who was on official department business, was allegedly driving in his turbo-charged Volkswagen Passat at 205km/h in the 120km/h zone between Laingsburg and Beaufort West on Friday evening. Provincial traffic chief Pat Curran would not name Duncan but confirmed that a high-ranking official in the provincial government had been arrested and released on bail.
  • VW Passat/ Skoda Superb - VW 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Reliability? 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I didnt know that is highest level of equpment and look nice, except the price (30000 eur), and when i checked more base version, very cheap looking inside.   Anyway, in this moment the best offer it is from Volkswagen and Skoda.   There is Passat B8, with 1.6 TDI Engine for 23000 eur with a lot of equipment. Skoda Superb with 2.0 TDI Engine is about same price, and again a lot of equipment.
  • Saab - Time running out to buy one of the last 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
New 1 hour 2 min ago I don't mind so long as its not bought by the all-acquiring Volkswagen. I really don't look forward to driving a Saab 9-3 built on Passat underpinnings or 9-5 based on A6 or 9-7X based on Q7 and fitted with parts from the VW Group bin. reply Flag as offensive Mazda 3 - Getting fed up with this!!! 16 Jan 2005 (Forum)
We sold a trouble free TDI golf to buy this bag of nails.... now I am haunted by VW's advertising slogan. If only everything in life were as reliable as a Volkswagen!!! Your comments are welcom either here or by e-mail to - rightclickit@btinternet.com Perplexed, Leon
  • Accessible Classic: The Fantastic, Forgotten Citro 5 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The 13.7-ft long (4.2-metre) GS was aimed at the growing middle class, and competed both in size, performance and price with cars like the Ford Taunus/Cortina, Opel Ascona, Saab 96, Morris Marina, Fiat 124, Alfasud and Volkswagen K70. Why pick the GS over the more mainstream competition? Simple: its advanced construction and unrivalled ride comfort. It had the hydropneumatic suspension and brake system of its larger siblings, disc brakes all ’round, and a newly-developed, high-revving air-cooled four cylinder engine.

  • Are current VED rules simply killing old cars? 9 Nov 2013 (Forum)
(Regardless of whether it's necessary) Are they designed to push people into buying new cars?  Let me give you an example... using my own car. My car is a Volkswagen Lupo SDI. It has a 1.7 N/A Diesel Engine. It's not fast, it's not particularly fun, but it's super fuel efficient and great for my 80 miles a day, travelling to work and back. Driving carefully, you can easily achieve in excess of 75MPG.
  • The car you drive.. 21 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Toyotas are good, reliable cars and are bought by a wide variety of people who have zero personality to go with their cars and are basically chicken-poo scared people who will never take chances and will therefore be driving Toyotas forever. The most zero-image car in the world?, ... a white Corolla Volkswagen Highly overrated for dependability cars since the days of the Beetle, but they do have a good re-sale value. Usually practical, sensible people who like to drive fast where nobody can see them. They are usually loyal to their brand to the point of irritation due to the fact that they lost their virginity on a Beetle's back seat.
  • Mike Rutherfords Champions 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Having dropped out of the premier league in the recent past due to silly but wholly unacceptable quality problems, Volkswagen is back in. And sister company Audi is, for the time being at least, at the very top. The eagerly awaited and much-hyped 187mph R8 can be largely thanked for that. Frankly, I'm staggered that the company's first proper, mid-engined supercar is as good as it is.
  • How crooks are stealing cars without a key 16 Mar 2015 (Forum)
In their place, a procession, largely of tatty vans, filed in, each with their own sorry tale of casual, opportunistic crime, such as the one stuffed full of stolen bicycles. And then, just as we’d given up hope, in came a tasty-looking 64-plate Volkswagen Golf GTI . Police circled, dogs sniffed and investigating officers had that relaxed, confident look that comes from knowing they’ve got their man.
  • Warning for Rattle: how to do it, how not to do it 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
LEARNING CURVE Old news from the front line I had the good fortune to visit America in 1973 at the tail end of its loose, lavish and graceful technical supremacy, before Japan imposed a more finicky intellectual hegemony on world automotive engineering; before Mickey Mouse pervaded Detroit (although Pintos, Pacers, Chevettes and assorted Japanese garbage were already common and Volkswagens were actually fashionable). My nine-year-old Plymouth slant six may not have been an inspiring vehicle, but it was a superlative consumer product. On the phone Herb Broadway of Broadway Auto Parts in Trenton, New Jersey, had mentioned an Oldsmobile for $85.
