An auction of the final 78 Saab cars produced begins today in Sweden. It has been commissioned by Saab's bankruptcy receivers and follows the huge success of a similar sale at the end of last year.

Amongst the lots are 31 9-4X SUVs, seven 9-5 Sportkombi estates and 37 of the 54 9-5 saloons built for the 2012 model year. Saab produced 700 9-4Xs and only around 30 9-5 Sportkombis, so all the cars have significant rarity value. Also included in the sale are a 9-3X and a six-cylinder diesel 9-5 saloon.

Per Blomberg of Swedish auction house KVD said: “The interest [in the last sale] was enormous, both in Sweden and internationally. With the last cars now being sold we expect an equally high level of interest from Saab enthusiasts.”

The auction runs until 3 April and the cars can be viewed from Friday 22 March in Wallhamn, near Gothenburg. Details of each car can be found on the KVD website.

Goodbye, Saab, goodbye! New 2 hours 1 min ago

Saab: A great name in motoring. Sadly, no more.

Shame that SAAB went under, they have the Swedish cool Volvo could never have. Would prefer to see Renault or Peugeot (I like Citroen) go under rather than SAAB, but who knows, maybe now they are in bed with GM they could be next!

I think "until next time" would be more accurate than saying goodbye. I predict that another company will buy the Saab name and rebuild the brand with a fresh new image. Might be a few years until that happens but I don't think the name will disappear forever.

I don't mind so long as its not bought by the all-acquiring Volkswagen. I really don't look forward to driving a Saab 9-3 built on Passat underpinnings or 9-5 based on A6 or 9-7X based on Q7 and fitted with parts from the VW Group bin.

Certainly an interesting car brand, and a genuine alternative to the German boxes.

Once it was under GM control and constrained by their mediocre donor platforms there was probably only one way it could go.

A shame to see it go.

As they are starting to make the full range again its a bit pointless the new models will be same exept for a different coloured badge where they will be replacing the traditional blue with I think red.As announced in the German press some weeks ago.

This reminds me that I've yet to see an MG6 or Roewe, or at least I'm yet to notice any. I wonder if that's what will happen with the Chinese Saabs.

A car supermarket near us has 2 Pre-Reg Silver MG6's on the forcourt at present, £10199 each. Both 1.8T SE, just spotted them on the way to Tesco at the weekend. Then we saw a blue one on the road on the way home. They look bigger than I expected.
