Should we use a diesel additive? 16 Jun 2024 (Ask HJ)
I bought VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI 2015 but we do not do a lot of miles as we used to. We hardly do 2000 miles a year and mainly short journeys. We are aware of... -
Mercedes C class estate - Wide profile tyres and fuel consumption 12 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I now have long term fuel consumption figures from both cars, to prove the point. If anything, with current diesel prices, I am even lighter footed with the current car, than my previous one. The first car had a long term perfmance over 10's of thousands of miles, of 42 MPG, the current one shows 37.8. -
Ford Focus - 99 Ford Focus TD DI - Fuel leak 25 Mar 2011 (Forum)
So bolted everything back together and made sure all was tight including the fuel lines to the injectors. Also resealed the thermostat housing as that was leaking fluid. Ran the car and there was no obvious leeks. Got underneath and there seemed to be a small amount of diesel dripping from the alternator bracket which to me suggested the back of the fuel pump where we couldn't see anything. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0tddi - no fuel in filter 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Ive got a 51 reg 2.0 tddi mondeo estate, the other day while driving it started to splutter and throw out loads of smoke and finaly cut out and would not start again,i had the car towed home and was told it may be fuel filter blocked and may needed changing ,so went bought new filter took old filter off and noticed there was no fuel in it,so before i put the new filter on i filled it with diesel connected everything back up and it started straight away i left it running for 10 mins then i cut out and would not restart so i disconnected the filter again and once more no fuel in it.Could it be the lift pump under the car near the fuel tank and also is there a relay that runs the pump.I know there not cheap is there any way of testing to see if it is the pump. -
Is diesel suitable for my situation 8 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Am I right to discount diesels and look for an economical petrol? -
BMW 7-Series E65/E66 (2002 - 2009) - BMW 2004 Diesels 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm going to buy a newer version of my car but i'm considering switching to diesel because of the numbers: 0-60 time, torque and of course fuel economy are all in the diesel version's favour, only the BHP value and top end speed (which i'd never get even close to!) is in the petrol's favour by a tiny margin. -
Diesel experts: your advice needed! 23 May 2003 (Forum)
Anyone heard of this? If so, what is the cure? 2) Do diesels get a lot slower if they've missed some services? I have a suspicion the car has missed the last one or two, but I've no idea if that should make a difference. 3) Can fuel additives/injector cleaners make a difference? -

Ford Mondeo - Mondeo/Vectra 2005 - petrol or diesel? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
we are usually short runs (10 miles return) with occasional big trips, but like the comfort of a car Mondeo/Vectra sized - hatchback slightly preferable for the supermarket car park. :-) . Never owned a diesel before because they were always much pricier to buy. BUT.... in the age range we are looking at (about 2005 reg) the diesel cars are the same price or cheaper to buy, which means that with lower fuel consumption a diesel may be a good idea. -
Dangerous diesel spills 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Spilt gasoline evaporates, spilt diesel doesn't. It's oil, and rubber and oil combined don't have much of a friction coefficient. Fuel spills on corners, roundabouts, even gas station forecourts can (literally) be lethal to a two-wheeler. -
Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - Shell V-Power Diesel 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I just wanted to share my own experience with the v-power diesel which I've been using on/off for last 3 weeks. I filled up the car with v-power diesel (fuel tank was almost empty). Drove the car and after few miles I could feel the smoothness and a bit of extra power in particular when driving in 3rd/4th gear. -

Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 01 2.0 Fuel pressure sensor fault 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The car has been filled with Shell Diesel 100% no bio/svo mix to rule these out. There is plenty of fuel getting into the filter housing, so for the time being am ruling out a possible faulty fuel lift pump. On checking various forums and threads, this seems to be a common complaint with many hdi engines...with a number of possible causes. -
10 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Clean simplicity - oh look, another person saying about emissions and power at power stations needed to produce electricity for electric cars! But the person seems to think his petrol, diesel or LPG comes out of the ground in that state and doesnt take into account the emissions and power needed at the refinery to produce the fuel for their ICE car! -
