Our Audi A4 is developing a DPF fault - how can I repair it?

My partner drives a 2006 Audi A4 2.0-litre diesel and the DPF light is now appearing on every weekend. The light very rarely appeared on whilst it was under warranty and the first time it did after the warranty had expired resulted in a bill for £180 from the Audi dealership. We have tried high quality fuels and diesel treatments, all to no avail. Do you have any suggestions as to how to repair it?

The problem is probably a driving cycle which is well known to be the most destructive to a car. with lots of starts and stops. This is hopeless for a diesel with a DPF. A new DPF for this car costs a fortune. Sell the car and get one with a petrol engine.
