The Audi is 2.... 27 Feb 2006 (Forum)
VW Golf Plus 2.0 TDI DSG Skoda Octavia estate 2.0 TDI DSG Mercedes B200 CDI (CVT equivalent) BMW 320D ES Touring automatic (anyone know what sort of auto this is? - and I think it may eb too expensive anyway) Mazda 6 estate 2.0 diesel (but no auto) Ford C-Max 2.0 TDCI (auto is torque-converter and will sap performance) Audi A4 Avant 2.0 - might seem the obvious choice but still expensive and I might as well have the Golf or the Skoda as the engine is the same. -
Cheap sports car 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm looking at possibly one of the following: Nissan 200SX (94-00 model), Honda Prelude (either models - like the looks of the older one, but think that the more recent one will be less trouble as it is more modern), Honda CR-X, Mazda MX-5, BMW 3 series coupe (or convertible), BMW Z3. Generally I would prefer the more powerful version of a particular model, and manual is essential. Having not driven a rear-wheel driven sports car before (other than family estates, etc) I'm slightly concerned about my life expectancy in a powerful, light, rear-wheel driven car. -

Skoda Car Seat Comfort & Back Pain 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I looked at new cars for over a year. I want something with good reliability but the seating is most important. I tried a Mazda 6 in 2004 but found the ride and seating much too hard. Similarly the new Primera was uncomfortable. This year I test drove a VW Touran, Passat and Skoda Octavia (latest model). The Passat gave me back ache in 30 minutes but the Skoda seemed very good so I bought it. -
Stag: indicators no longer flash 9 Jul 2005 (Forum)
If the alternator is only partially charging the battery, and the battery is therefore weak does that manifest itself in a non-flashing flasher (amongst other things) ? Cheers Frank Frank Smyth \'95 Vauxhall Omega CDX 2.5TD \'96 Mazda MX5 1.8 turbo -
Dealer indifference 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I recently road tested a Mazda 6. The procedure was: go into showroom, give them driving licence and passport, which they photocopied, sign a simple form stating that I'd pay speeding/parking fines, etc, and away I go with SWMBO and two kids in back. -

I looked all over for cheaper in the way of Mazda 6's, Avensis, Accord etc and this was the by far the cheapest. OK its a Nissan but hopefully it will not need a new clutch or engine in its first year of ownership. Bill -
New car - zoom, zoom, zoom 29 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Hi all - not been able to post for a while but in the meantime I've picked up my new Mazda MPV. Having driven it a bit more now I have to say I'm very impressed with it. Haven't driven a diesel for about 20 years but it feels great and you'd hardly know it was not a petrol engined car. -
sporty 5 door for sporty family 13 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I have three children and it seems nigh on impossible to find a new/used or classic car which looks really sporty, goes fast, has 5 doors and is NOT and estate( My wife wont drive an estate..must be her caribbean background ) So far we have tried :- Seat Leon Cupra: Likes: fast, roomy, reasonable price, looks great in yellow, airbag deactivation Dislikes: Would have to be clean to look good, depreciation Audi A3 1.8T: Likes: fast, beautifully made, airbag deactivation Dislikes: a bit small,VERY expensive(even 2nd hand) VW Golf 1.8T and 130BHP TDi: Likes: fast, efficient(Tdi),roomy, reliable Dislikes: A but plain(unless someone can suggest a really good body kit),a lot of them around, have too add extra airbag deactivation kit We have also tried the basic 206 but found it a bit plasticky We have also thought about the mazda 323 1.8 or 2.0 sports and toyota corolla T3 but have not tried them We have also not tried any classic cars yet because of fears on reliability H..E..L..P -
Change of Car 4 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Hi I have just found out that my family is going to be getting larger in the spring and I therefore need to seriously think about changing my car, both to accommodate 'big mother' and little one when s/he arrives. I currently drive a mazda mx6, which I love driving. I reckon that my car is worth something in the region of 3,500 to 3,000. I can add up to 1,000 more, but that's about the limit. Given these parameters, and the fact that the car must be reasonably cheap to run and reliable, I have almost got down to a shortlist of a Passat (1998, 110 tdi). -
Car for missus 8 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The missus is after a new car to replace an aged, but still in very nice nick, Cinqecento. She wants a sporty car, preferably a Mazda MX 5. Budget is reasonably flexible but I think £8000 to £12000 is in the ball park. So, is it worth getting the 1.8i 'S' over the base model? It's got an LSD, but she's more interested in the ABS brakes. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Common rail crap or what. Views please! 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
However, I think the key point is that they havn't taken into consideration those cars operating at 80k+ miles. This in my research seems to be the danger zone for fuel systems. Moved on to looking at Mazda 6 (imagined great reliability through out) BUT lots of fleet managers and posts relating to complete engine failure around the 90k plus end. Engine closely realted to fords (both companies in bed together these days). -
Any - Breakdown cover again - excess discounts 15 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I liked the idea of Xileno’s choice in an old thread, Start Rescue at £30 for my 2018 but unfortunately another £48 for the wife’s 2012 Mazda. I thought I would try elsewhere. However Green flag were £98 including a £25 arrangement fee, bit of a cheek charging me for their cost of sale. Auto aid looked promising at about £60 with free spouse cover according to their ad. -
Honda CR-V - Petrol Estate or SUV 35mpg+ capable around £3k 23 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Using this web's real mpg as a beacon I am thinking of the following models which I like Honda CR-V MK3 (2007-) 2.0 Vtec Honda Accord Estate MK4 (I think) (2008-) 2.0 Vtec Ford Mondeo Estate MK3 VAG line up with the 1.4 TSI or even the 1.8 TSI Volvo V50 1.6 When browsing I also looked kindly at the Mazda 6 which adopted euro 6 in 2012 but I am worried about getting stuck with DPF issues and else. and they are more on the £4500 region and up The Astra Van also adopted Euro 6 with the 1.6 CDTI as early as 2013 but I don't like that much. -

SUV choice: XC60/Kuga/CX-7 12 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I'm not looking for other options really, as it's been done to death thus far; I've narrowed it down to the following: - Volvo XC60 (D5244T* engine, but potentially a DRIVe in the right spec) - Ford Kuga 2.0 TDi Titanium X (or Sport Pack, spec is a bit hard to follow in the ads) - Mazda CX-7 2.2D These are based on being models available for under £7k (more I save, the more I can spend on the house), with heated seats and potentially nav-level spec, yet having the potential for over 40mpg on a run (real mpg figures are positive on this aspect). -
Fuel made from air! 18 Jun 2018 (Forum)
A section in the 2nd half of the article went on to describe another more ambitious method of creating synthetic fuel by using bacteria. Mazda is involved in the development, working with scientists in Tokyo and Hiroshima. Like the first method, this is considered carbon neutral as the lab developed strains of E.coli used will re absorb the CO2 (emitted by vehicles using the fuel) in the production cycle. -

Need a car with high seating. 12 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Trouble is for my budget I am looking at cars with 100k+ miles on the clock. Would like the titanium because it comes with cruise control. New shape Mazda 5. Did have one when they came out, a 1.8 petrol. Nice but no cruise control and squeaky suspension when cold. Would like to go for the newer shape which has the kit I want. Was wondering if the tyre wear issues has been sorted.
