  Not all L200s featured Mitsubishi’s sophisticated 4x4 system though, the 4Work and 4Life models have a simpler Easy Select 4WD which works in 2WD for the majority of the time, though can be shifted to 4WD on the move - again at up to 62mph. Throughout the L200’s near 10 year production run it would see some changes to its specification. In 2010, the L200 gained the option of a five-speed automatic, while power was increased to 175PS. There was also a very slight restyle inside and out, with the exterior getting new fog lamp housings and a redesigned grille.

  The 1985 product plan identified that the AR6 would hit the market in 1988, with the diesel version (powered by a dieselised S-Series engine of 1.6-litres) following on in late 1989. By this time, fully engineered prototypes were nearing completion, and the three/five door hatchback was looking all set for production. However, the government of the time was now becoming increasingly set on selling the company at the earliest opportunity, and the poor 1985 sales figures pushed them into action.

  Evocative sportscars that have contested the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours will be out in force, too, with packed grids starring many of the Gallic endurance classic’s most prized racers ranging from the celebrated Ferraris, Aston Martins and Jaguars of the 1950s and 1960s up to the powerful turbocharged Group C prototypes of the 1980s and 1990s. Two of 2011’s highlights also return. Back in July, full 58-car grids of Historic Formula Junior and Under 2-Litre Touring Cars wowed the crowds with some spectacularly close racing and both are back by popular demand… as is a special star-studded celebrity challenge raising much-needed funds for selected charities.
