Discovery TD5 auto y2000 - brakes 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I would be grateful for any feedbck on brakes & perfomance. I have had the car for 3 years, and has 30K on the clock. I dont tow, and no major probs so far. I live by the sea, and my brake discs go rusty in 48 hours. The car rarely travels more than 20 miles per day, at no more than 40mph (with annuual 2000 mile round trip[s to Spain) The brakes now need replacing, as the discs are grooved. -
New car warranty 19 May 2004 (Forum)
The dust from the shoes built up and jammed my wheels up. When I took it to the dealer at first they fited a new clutch. when the car jammed again the AA towed the car to the dealer. First question? Should the brake shoes break up like that on a 2 year old car and is is classed a wear and tear or mechanical failure. I am disputing this with the dealer. -
My next car ... 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I need an estate so I can put tools and assorted junk in the back as I pursue of my new career (!) of handyman/gardener. The car needs to have 100 - 110 bhp diesel engine and to be able to tow 1300Kg of caravan. I believe that the local Citroen dealer will give me the best price on the Synergie, say £3.5K leaving me to put in £7K to get a year old C5 estate. So far I have got on well with the local dealer which has a value in itself. -
Insurance "Business Use" Query. 12 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Hello All, I wonder if anyone could tell me whether my wife needs "Commuting" or "Business use" on her car insurance. I am unsure what to include because her permanent place of work is a mobile classroom that is towed between local schools. Each week it is moved to a different school around Bournemouth. She drives to her mobile classroom and works from it each day. So, does the mobile form her permanent place of work (therefore requiring only commuting) or would her drive to work be considered to be visiting multiple establisments in the course of her business day, therefore requiring business use. -
starter motor faulty? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
i have astra mk2, recent problems include stalling after 10 mins drive; carbonised spark plugs; faulty battery.( sparks & battery replaced); today it wouldn't start. nor turn the engine; i checked for loose wires etc, found 1 and rewired it on the ignition switch. i eventually called in the breakdown mechs, and although they managed to start the car by short towing they warned me that starter motor is faulty and may not restart if left off overnight. can anyone advise on where i go from here and could a dodgy starter motor explain the cutting out/stalling problem mentioned earlier. how would i proceed with removing current starter motor to take to auto-sparks as haynes mentioned the procedure for 1.2cc and 16 valve 1.6cc only. how much can i expect to pay for repair/replacement etc. any and all advice on this most welcome urgently please. thanks again.... rob -

Daughters NCD taken after non claim 8 Mar 2018 (Forum)
She hit a leasehold car from the back doing 5MPH at a junction. Her car recieved minimal damage to her bumper from the tow bar but the car she hit had no signs of anything. When the leasehold car was taken back the company were informed someone had nudged the back but no damage was evident. My daughter has just had her insurance renewel in and it has gone up by £850 which was a complete shock and her 2yr NCD has been taken. -
Toyota Aygo 55 plate 997cc - Sudden loss of power 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
My son recently had an accident and ran into the back of a car with a tow bar. I`ve just picked the car up today having had the bodywork repaired , a new radiator , grill , bumper beam etc. Driving home the car was fine then suddenly I felt all the power go and had to drive back at literally 5 miles per hour with the car stuttering and vibrating. -
GOLF TDI Bluemotion - Misfuel 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Called the roadside assisitance, who ran a diagnosic check and said the issue was fuel pressure? I got towed to the dealership where i purchased the car and they have said the main fuel pump is broken which has affected the leads and sensors?? Anyway they are saying this can be caused by a misfuel, putting unleaded into a diesel. -

Volvo 940 LPT - Engine missing, cutting out 10 Oct 2013 (Forum)
One hot day crawling about town it got so bad I couldn't get over about 1200 revs, had a job to get along, stopped for ten munutes and then back to what passes for normal, OK up to 2500 revs.I can cruise on light throttle openings but floor it and it misses/cuts out immediately. Not much fun towing a trailer uphill. Went to the main dealer diagnostic but nothing found, and now they won't respond to my phone calls. As you may imagine this is frustrating and I would scrap it if I hadn't just fitted a new clutch. -
mazda rx8 2006 - ignition/immobiliser staring issue 10 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Had vehicle towed home - the battery was still holding a full charge no fuses blown and no visible signs of damaged or burnt wires, have been unable to resolve problem. I think problem is to do with the immobiliser as when I try to start it the red key light on dash flashes quickly Any ideas on how to make my car live once more? -
Volvo S40 (2004 - ) - 06 2.0D Starting problem 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Initially it had a software download, then a new ignition switch, then the car would not start at all, and was towed to the garage, outside warranty. It had the "sludge" cleaned out of the tank and a new fuel pump. Sadly this has not cured the problem, and the car is still very unreliable when starting. I am about to book the car into the Volvo dealership again (for the sixth time) but really have little confidence that they can fix it. -
Audi A3 2.0T FSI 2006 - Audi A3 2.0T FSI broken cam belt 27 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi everyone, we were driving down motorway when red flashing oil light appeared (probably should of stopped straight away) anyway was trying to get to service station wife two kids in car got up slip road around roundabout then car died. AA would not look at it because of red light policy had it towed home, I s diagnostic check going to tell me anything my feeling is i might have a broken cam belt as it was overdue a change, My dilema now is after reading a fair bit about this sought of problem instead of throwing money at this problem do i jusyt bite the bullet and put a new engine in from a write off Audi, Have been quoted £1900 for 2009 engine 30k miles supply and fit with a warranty? -
Yeti 4 x 4 - Skoda Yeti 4x4s in reverse. 25 May 2013 (Forum)
Which is why Defenders can be totally USELESS if, for instance, you put one side in a ditch. I've seen us having to tow the sheep-feed up steeply cambered icy tracks with our old Subaru Imprezza Turbo because a Defender would have 2 uselessly spinning wheels in the lower ice-filled track while the upper wheels sat their doing f-all! -
2012 corsa 1.2 petrol - vauxhall warranty 7 Apr 2013 (Forum)
wife bought the car new in feb 2012 from arnold clark glasgow , got full service end jan 2013 at same garage - 5000 miles . engine temp light came on on way home from work , topped up coolant and light went off and ok for rest of week . went on motorway following week and light came on again , pulled in at services and topped up again an light went off , decided to drive home instead of carrying on , light came on again on motorway and pulled off at nearest exit , car broke down . got rac to tow it to same garage , got report later that there was a faulty coolant pipe and the engine had overheated to failure , vauxhall say they wont repair car under warranty because it was driven 59 miles from time light first came on till last time even tho it went off inbetween , they say she drove the car to destruction and want £4000 for replacement engine , where do we stand ? -
Peugeot 306 D'Turbo - Car Revs With No Accelerator Black Smoke pug 306 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I got it to the side of the road and checked i hadn't snapped a timing belt before attempting to restart the engine, after confirming this wasn't the problem i attempted to restart the car which didn't happen so i got it towed home, left it for a few hours and went back to it and it started so i drove it around a few streets by my house to see if the problem still occurred but only when i got it to more than 2500 rpm, which i thought could be the turbo. -

MOTORWAY SERVICES PCN 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
THE TECHNICALITIES ARE, 1.THE VEHICLE NO PLATE CAN BE READ ON THE PHOTO THEY SUPPLIED.ON THE WAY IN 'JUST' .BUT ON THE WAY OUT IT IS THE CARAVAN NO PLATE THAT IS READ AND ON THE PHOTO YOU CANNOT READ THE NO PLATE AS IT IS OVER EXPOSED BY THE NO PLATE LIGHTS. 2.HOW DO THEY KNOW THAT THE TOW VEHICLE IS THE SAME ON THE WAY OUT. THIS COULD HAVE CHANGED THROUGH A NUMBER OF REASONS ( LONG SHOT ) BUT COULD HAPPEN. 3.ON THE MOTOR WAY SERVICES WEBSITE ( NOT ACCESSIBLE JUST NOW THROUGH A TROJAN DETECTION BY GOOGLE) THERE IS AN ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP WHICH SHOWS THE THE OFF RAMP RIGHT ROUND THE PERIMITER ROAD TO THE ON RAMP AS HIGHWAY THERE IS A LAYBY ON IT I ''PARKED UP ON'' NUDGE NUDGE I WISH I COULD VARIFIE THIS IS NOT THEIR PROPERTY I WOULD BE HOME AND DRY AND £50 IN THE HEROES FUND.
