  • Renault Scenic - Headlights for France 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
What's the best way of adjusting the headlights for driving on the continent? My new (last of the old-style) Scenic has twin headlights with no obvious area to cover to remove the kerbside bit of the dipped beam. Previous cars had a moulding in the lens to cover with black tape or a ridged deflecting lens.

  • Young driver insurance recommendations 29 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone make one please? My friends lad is nearly 18 and has an old Golf that he wants to run valued at £700. The quotes for TPF&T have come back at twice the value of the car! Can anyone recommend a good insurance company contact for young drivers please?
  • My first Diesel 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Have just bought myself a Mondeo TDCI 130LX Estate (53 plate). I pick it up on Friday. When i had the old shape Mondeo, I found out long after puchasing it that I should have had a Red master key. Should I be looking for something similar with this car.

  • Front discs 13 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Just had to change my Peugeot 205 XLD front discs after an MOT failure due to rust. They were only two years old and I have done 15,000 miles on them. Perhaps I don't use the car enough or brake hard enough? Thanks.
  • tyre rotation 3 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Hi My car is almost three years old and the front tyres are showing wear to about 2mm above the markers. The rear ones look fine, Is it a good idea to rotate front to back or just to buy two new front ones.

  • Selling an Import 23 May 2001 (Forum)
I will be selling my imported VW Golf 1.8T in about 6 months time, it will then be 8 months old. I am wondering what it will be worth when I come to sell, will it be significantly less than a UK model? I bought the car in Denmark at a saving of around 5K, will I get a profit? Cheers Andrew
  • Renault Megane - Change of Number Plate 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hi All Last week i applied to put my Number plates on retention due to buying a 1 year old car. I am hoping that i will be picking up the car at the end of the week all going well. At the moment my car tax has just ran out and the DVLA will not allow me to tax my car on line because my old number plate is not on the system anymore, But they told me on the phone that i can pay over the phone to tax the car for a year, but they wont tell me the cars new reg number to tax it on line, I want to pay direct debit monthly to avoid paying £180 and that way i wont have to wait 6 weeks for the refund!!!
  • When a Yaris won't do... 16 May 2018 (Forum)
My wife's Qashqai is ten years old now. We've had it since it was 18 months old. She has really enjoyed this car and says it suits her perfectly. It's not a posh one, being the entry level Visia trim and a 1.6 petrol manual. No sports car but it bowls along ok and has been no trouble at all.
  • Volkswagen CC - Where to offload old car 29 Apr 2025 (Forum)

  • Mazda CX-30 - Call Mazda First 7 May 2021 (Forum)
Also, if it is a write off, which looking at it it could well be, where will I stand with respect to getting a new replacement. My insurance policy has a "new for old" clause which provides a new car if yours is written off in the first year but I am not sure if that will be the case if they are not liable for the repairs/replacement. Any advice welcome.
  • Recommended car for my mother-in-law 22 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I'm interested in anyone's views as to whether there's a more sensible purchase;  here are the salient facts: She's a very sprightly and totally competent 89 year-old. She lives on the outskirts of Brighton.  The vast majority of journeys will be in and around the town, occasionally venturing up the M23/M25/M40 to visit her beloved SIL (and her daughter, of course) She wants an auto Her budget is £6k I've had a cursory look on A/T for low mileage minis under 6k but they seem to be holding their value and are thus some years old.

  • Insurance When Keys Stolen 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
On Monday night a friend was visiting a friend in Blackpool. When she got up in the morning she discovered that her 9 month old 206cc had been stolen. The thieves had broken into the house and taken the keys, and nothing else. The police told her that the thieves would have just been after the car and nothing else. Obviously this has inconvenienced her no end, but her policy states that if the car is stolen / written off before it is 1 year old, she will get a new replacement, so long as the car is not recovered within 2 weeks.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 00 1.0 Strange Juddering 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Put it back together and it started on the button, we thought it was fixed. Then after driving to work, the car started juddering at any speed (with the Engine light temporarily lighting) I had another look at the car this morning and started to reverse some of the work, to find the dodgy part. - Spark Plugs - Swapped with old and was exactly the same - Distributor Cap with another old part we kept, not the one we pulled out - Juddering stopped We then went on a 30 min test drive without fault and just as we were approaching the house it juddered (quite harshly).
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - warranty claim in England for breakdown in France. 22 May 2009 (Forum)
A short time ago went to leave cottage in France and car would not start, seemed like flat battery, tried to jump it with portable battery pack but no joy. Eventually had to call out breakdown service. They put new battery in car and it started, but, as the car is less than two years old we got a tow to a Citroen garage.
  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Who sells the most economical diesel for my car? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Sorry if this is an old subject. My CR-V is now three weeks old and fully run in according to the guide. It's a 2.2 diesel and at the start I was getting worried, because I was getting nothing like the 41mpg that most claimed was possible - 35-37 at best.
