  • Vectra engine cuts out at traffic lights 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
However, it still does appear at the most inoportune times, but not as often and although HJ sugested fitting new HT leads, this had already been done. Apart from this car runs very well indeed. Has anyone any suggestions ? Regards Derek
  • VW TDI Timing belt change. Who can do it 4 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Leading on from my earlier post about a starting noise on a W Reg VW TDI engine, I've been scanning thru a couple of TDI sites and seen that changing the timing belts on these TDI engines is a job for a specialist only, as special tools and VAG COM stuff is involved.
  • Starting cycle. 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
It is reluctant to start from restart and cuts off on first attempt in 60% of cases. What could this be? The battery is fine, the leads are fine, the air filter is new and the oil is fresh. The mileage is only 21,000 miles and the bike is 2 years old. Also, how many miles should I expect this engine to last me with regular oil changes and frequent servicing.
  • ignition light - Vauxhall Astra 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
a few days ago my astra 1.4 l reg when i turned the key the ignition light was not lit, but the car started, i assumed i had a connection problem somewhere and i sprayed wd40 on the leads, battery connections, and its only since yesterday that the ignition light has lit up, my car has a standard immobilser and alsrm fitted, my question is what causes it, and is it serious, the car has no problem starting up it starts first time, i had a alternator replaced a year ago, if the alternator failed i would have had a flat battery any thoughts???
  • Ford Escort 1988 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I\'m unable to get more than a couple of litres of petrol into the tank, by shaking the car I can put a few more litres in. The car is a v.early unleaded with a standard leaded filler neck - no sleeve. All vent pipes are 100% clear and the car has been in many garages, all to no avail. The tank has been removed twice, again to no avail. There is a peculiar cylindrical sealed unit in the off side wheel arch which is fitted in line into one of the many breather pipes, this has been removed, again with no avail.
  • Ford Focus Hesitation 4 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I saw a posting some weeks ago about this which suggested that there is a problem that Ford dealers are aware of and that the problem is the fuel pump. I spoke to my local Ford dealer at the time and they suggested it was likely to be HT leads! Can anyone please confirm the faulty fuel pump scenario Many Thanks Peter Bowman
  • Any Citreon AX experts please-part ID? 14 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Today he had a \'tune up man\' out who has diagnosed and fixed the problem. The bit that he has replaced is similar to a HT lead but it has a reddy/brown electrical connector one end and a diffrent type of connector at the other end. Some sort of sensor that has being affecting his petrol/electrical performance according to my neighbour.

  • can vauxhall be trusted? 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Having experienced GM's unacceptable 1.6 petrol engine as at 1996 but having had no trouble with their current (if hardly leading edge) 2.0 DTi unit I am wondering if Vauxhall's current engines (petrol and diesel) and their engine management systems can now be relied upon to stay the course and keep out of the shop, and if the petrol engines, like those of other makes, can run satisfactorily on any BS standard fuel.
  • VW Transporter - engine running problem 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
It will start off normal but as soon one accelerates it, it looses power and would not drive faster than 40m/h, showing an uneven run with slight backfiring with foot off the pedal. Ignition is ok, new spark plugs has been fitted, HT leads tested, carburetor cleaned, idling adjusted. Any ideas? Thanks Peter petervm@lineone.co.uk
  • Cycle carriers 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Also, I think I know the anser to this, but what if someone runs into you from the rear - does it then possibly lead to a bike being pushed through your window? Any thoughts would be appreciated...
  • Mondeo ABS 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
This turns out to be a failure of the Fr RHS brake to operate properly, and it seems that the difference between the 2 front brake would lead to an MoT failure. After checking out the system, it seems that the problem is caused by a failure of the ABS control unit - which I'm told will cost £700 + labour i.e. best part of £1,000 to put right.
  • Rover 220 Coupe Problems 10 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I've tried disconnecting the following to determine a problem: Lambda Sensor ATS CTS TPS Idle control stepper motor Changed fuel relay, HT Coil, rotor arm and lead to distributor. Rover dealer had the car for a week and found no problem but tightened an earth connection. Problem returned the next hot day. Really stratching my head now and would appreciate any help.
  • Renault Avantime 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The styling grew on me and in dark colours it looks particularly good. However, I've got a sneaky suspicion this is going to be a residual lead balloon when it comes to trade in time. Any Renault fans want to disagree? Simon
  • Rover Sterling 827 2 Jun 2002 (Forum)
One day, the hot air failed to work, cold air OK. Engine gets to normal working temp. We flushed out the inlet/outlet pipes leading to the heater matrix and the matrix itself - all clear and unobstructed - still no hot air. The fan and control panel are OK. The inlet/outlet hoses do not get hot and it appears that the hot water is not reaching the heater.
  • 2.5 V6 Omega Pathitic Performance 9 Feb 2002 (Forum)
There is a bit of hesitation at low revs, and light throttle, though have put this down to a damaged spark lead, as can see arcing in the vicinity from time to time. Anyone any ideas, I was thinking as the engine is covered in oil crankshaft position sensor or the like is may be playing up.
  • De-icing test. 16 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Thought I'd try the mains fan heater trick as mentioned in previous threads. Absolutely brilliant! Popped the extension lead out from the shed and put a small fan heater on the passenger floor. Set the 1KW output, thermostat to medium and left it for ten minutes. On returning not only was the car warm but all the ice had gone from the outside of the windows as well as the ice/condensation from the inside.
  • Rover flywheel wear 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
This is annoying because two years ago I replaced the flywheel as the old one had severe wear on the teeth. At that time the starter jammed & refused to operate at all, leading to several AA call outs. Has anyone experienced similar?
