  • Customer service? 20 Jan 2019 (Forum)
This got me thinking about customer service when theres a problem with the car. I looked on google and suverys have mixed reviews some have Honda , Kia , volvo at the top of customer service satisfaction lists were others have Land rover , Mercedes at the top but kia at the bottom so the surveys are confusing.  I wanted to ask on here which brands are know to sort issues out rather than say "its a characteristic of the car?
  • Toyota Auris - Is this normal for a Dealer 9 Jan 2016 (Forum)
My wife is in the market for a new car. She's looked at a VW Golf, a Volvo V40 and today she test drove an Auris from Listers in Nuneaton. The sales guy who shall remain nameless for now was polite to start off with, and my wife had a drive for about 15 minutes or so.
  • Any - Choosing an estate (probably) for £2000 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Currently considering: Saab 9-5 - 2.0, 2.3 or HOT (probably not...) or the big diesel Vauxhall Signum - 2.0T, 2.2 direct, or the big diesel (had a vectra 1.9 150 before, would consider but want something a bit more... fun) Volvo V40 1.9 T4 (if I can find one) Mondeo (probably a 2.5 V6) MG ZT-T (again, 1.8T or 2.5 V6) I'm probably borderline on distance/route between a petrol or diesel being more suitable, but as I say I'm looking for a something a bit grumbly or pokey or both, as long as it isn't going to cost the Earth I don't mind spending a bit extra on fuel.

  • Subaru Tribeca or Ford S-Max 2.5T? 30 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Without spending fortunes on BMW X5s or Audi Q7s, I had a quick look on Autotrader and came up with some very well specified Ford S-Maxs with the Volvo T5 engine. The only downside is a manual gearbox, but the upside is more space than a Tribeca, economy no worse than my Outback, presumably great performance and some are dripping in features. Not quite the same bargain as a Tribeca but not too far short.
  • family coupe convertible 12 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Getting bored of the Volvo S80 (2.5T) after 3 years, went to test-drive a used C70. It was the C70 2.4 petrol manual (168bhp), which felt disappointingly underpowered compared to what I'm used to, although it wasn't terrible.
  • When does a car "wear out"? 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My initial plan had been that SWMBO would take over the use of that for her new 70 mile a day commute, and I would spend circa £2-3k on something a little more fun for my 15 mile round trip, such as a Volvo C70. C70 plans firmly in place, it occured to me that with SWMBO's new annual mileage of circa 20k is going to quickly stack miles on my already above average miles Golf, and as such it might be worth chopping it in now, whilst its still worth something, for a slightly newer, lower mileage example.
  • Toyota Camry (1991 - 1995) - Would you buy one/have you? 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Im just mulling it over atm, but with small car prices very firm ( I was offered £2k for my Charade the other day and looking around that was on the money ) it seems its not a bad time - ive only lost £1200 on it over 25k which isnt too bad at all really. I also have a secret hankering for a 240 Volvo, but thats another thing again!
  • 18yr old son passed Driving Test today - now what? 8 Nov 2009 (Forum)
    2) Any thoughts... he drove his mum's X-reg Renault Clio and the instructor's new Yaris to learn in. PS were the findings of the Top Gear bit on young'uns buying a safe but dull Volvo the best route? 3) Ask the instructor to give him a couple of lessons on specific motorway driving - I've done enough of that myself so I can give him the basics (hope he listens!) 4) Take him to the Car Shop in town and give him £1.99 for one of those big UK map books featuring speed camera positions etc Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated.
  • Stylish medium estate emitting under 175 g/km 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have tried to put them off Audi which is sure to be boring to their specification, although they could probably afford the RS4 or RS6 I might fancy in their position. Skoda and Volvo seem too unglamorous, although that might not be an insuperable problem. BMW might be seen as too flash in some chattering-classes way I don't fully understand. I hoped someone here might have a bright idea or two.
  • Modern diesels - is there really a problem? 26 May 2008 (Forum)
My only thought at the time was that she was filling the can for the lawn-mower - and it was going down as 'expenses'! After paying, she drove away in the large Volvo estate and my wife said "hang on, wasn't that a diesel car - it was a D5 - what was she putting in the can?'. Maybe we'd got the wrong end of the stick, but it's seeing something like that which puts me right off a s/h diesel.
  • What Used Car for £16k? 27 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Subaru Impreza - good reliability and nice to drive (I should imagine) but not that 'special' unless you go down the hardcore STi route (which I don't want to do). Volvo C30T5 - current favourite, though there seem to be very few about. HJ gave it a stonking review, but I've not heard much other feedback. Skoda Fabia VRs - nice, but not 'special' enough. Any comments or suggestions?
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Small Car 22 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have been driving a Volvo S80 and was looking for a replacement diesel estate. Thanks to your site, I researched the Honda Accord CDTi, its price of services/parts/tyres, insurance, etc. The Honda seemed to fit the bill. However, it did not fit in another way: I went to a local dealer and asked to have a look around one.

  • minor rear end shunt 12 Oct 2006 (Forum)
In the usual grid lock on the M25 this morning, between J9 and 10, my Volvo V70 was rear end 'shunted', by a Picasso. I was stationary, and the impact was quite light. We pulled onto hard shoulder to examine damage etc. There wasn't any! We could just about find the point of impact on his number plate, but only just.
  • TDCi judder around 2200-2700rpm 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've tried cleaning the MAF with Isopropanol, which didn't cure it, but the hesitation feels almost like a MAF fault, as if it is telling the ECU that there is more air getting in than actually is and less fuel is consequently injected. Anyone got any suggestions for other potential causes? It's a 2002 Volvo S40 with a Renault DCi (surprise surprise) engine.
  • New car chosen after much prevarication! 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
BUT... didn't pass the "I want it" test when I saw it next to the Lexus in a car park. We were also impressed with the Volvo S40 2.4. We didn't like the Saab 9-3 (hideous cabin) or the 2.2D X-Type (diesel clatter). We didn't drive the 3-Series because the dealer was extremely unhelpful and I wasn't very impressed with the cabin - very cheap and nasty unless you spent quite a lot extra, I thought.
  • Next Car Advice please 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
new here so hello all :) 3 years ago i got fed up of driving new cars and bought a £1200 Volvo 850 2.5-20v. It didn't quite fit the image as I run my own business and the folks working for me all had cars 10x as much but it was an awesome car, eventually I gave in to the comments about it and bought a nearly new Skoda Superb....after 3 months I realise it's been a big mistake and I want to go back to the big old exec type of car.
  • Chipped, scratched & faded ... 15 Nov 2005 (Forum)
... my new purchase, that is - a 1996 Volvo 960, bought as a stopgap replacement following the untimely demise of our V-reg Espace. When I had it serviced last week I asked them to give it a rub over with the "mop", with the result that at least it's no longer faded - and actually rather shiny.
  • USA tyre pressures same as UK? 21 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Seems very low, given my golf cab is 35 psi all round & a quick look at comparable weight cars like volvo convertible & Audi have 34psi. Sooo, are we talking the same definitions of PSI here? Not exactly quick either! Ho hum, like you can drive fast over here anyhow, but it would be confidence boosting if it were to change direction roughly when you asked it too & not give the feeling that the tyre are just about to roll off the rims.
