Noisy V reg Daewoo Matiz 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Strange 'drumming' noise coming from I think the front near side drive shaft area. Noise increases with speed and remains when clutch operated at speed to drop the engine revs, therefore seems connected with drive shaft not engine. No obvious play in wheel bearings. No leaks apparent from driveshaft area. -
Stiff 2nd gear - mondeo td 17 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi All. I have a 97 Mondeo TD. When I first start driving the car is very stiff to get into 2nd gear.(1,3,4,5,R, are fine). After about 5 mins of driving it second gear becomes much smoother to get in like it should do. Any ideas why this is happening? -
My Horn replacement 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
How long do horns really last? Does it depend on how often you use it? Any comment will be welcome :-) -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-) -
Nissan Almera 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I am think of buying a 2000 Nissan Almera Tino 2.2 diesel. When I took it for a test drive the car pulled to the left. The garage has checked out the wheel aliengment(slight adjustment required) and replaced the front tyres. They say that this has solved the problem. I am going to test drive it again -but should there be anything else I should be looking out for? -
drinking and driving 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Apparently there's a link between what we drik and what car we'd like to own. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4358859.stm Unfortunately they didn't... -
Just Carless? 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A coach driver today pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving at Wrexham magistrates court. Police produced a video taken from an unmarked car of him driving on the A5. He had a mobile phone in one hand and was using the other to open a window. A small child was sitting on the dashboard. -
getting better MPG. 6 Jul 2004 (Forum)
In a climate of ever increasing fuel costs, what are the best ways to extract as many MPG as you can out of your cars? Is there any truth in better MPG when you drive around with windows shut or never having a full fuel tank? I know switching off a/c and never driving with a roof rack helps but anyone got any other tips? -
Sunglasses 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Wonder if anyone else has the same problem? I don't wear specs, and I am most reluctant to put on sunglasses when driving - usually only do so when forced to drive into early morning/late evening sun. The reason is, I find they have a sort of blinkering effect on me - I am much less aware of what is happening on the periphery and even a little insecure. -
VW Golf MK3 Gearbox probs 28 May 2004 (Forum)
Lately I?ve been experiencing after long or short motorway driving that the gears become difficult to engage after I come off the motorway. It rights itself again after a short non-motorway drive. Does anybody know what this could be? All gears are difficult to engage, even 5th gear, which is usually the easiest. -

Corsa advert on TV 6 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I can only assume that the current Corsa advert on TV is aimed at the large number of Corsa-driving boy racers, with a view to encouraging them to drive like loons. Still, I suppose that the more Corsas that are written off then the more new ones will be sold as replacements ~ perhaps there's method in the apparent madness of the advertising execs after all! -
Manhole covers 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Why do the vast majority of manhole covers/services covers, call them whatever, have to be positioned in the road so that vehicle wheels always drive over them? It means a bumpy ride, can't be good for emergency vehicles driving fast, must wear the covers down and causes "clanking" noises which upsets local residents. Why can't they be placed in the middle of a lane? -
Insurance and potential buyers 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I'm about to sell one of my cars and wondered how fellow posters deal with the issue of buyers test driving cars. If I let a buyer drive my car with me as passenger and then he crashes the car I won't be covered by my insurance. Should I refuse the buyers request however they aren't going to be too happy. -

Sound Advice 13 Mar 2002 (Forum)
DURING my 60 years of motoring, I have always believed that speed limits are a crude aid to safer driving. They do not react to varying road conditions or time of day and also, paradoxically, encourage the average motorist to drive faster. This is born out of your repeated condemnation of those who drive below the speed limit. -
Seizure notice & potential for letter of indemnity 1 Mar 2024 (Forum)
So I decided to buy it, however on the way home the car caught a coppers eye and highway patrol were on me at a junction on the on the A1M close to my destination Police decided to seize the vehicle said that its insurance was cancelled several days ago . I protested that I purchased in good faith and checked with my insurers that I could drive the car, which they confirmed I could providing the seller had a policy on the car, my documentation also states that I can drive other cars , which they did read . They looked at my documentation for my insurance on other cars, which states that I can drive other cars that I don't legally own . -
people who think they have a driving license 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
After having my van seized there and then, the police officer must have felt a little sorry for me offering to phone the DVLA for me as I sat in the back of his police car saying it must be a mistake and there was no way I had been driving for the last thirteen year’s with no driving license. The DVLA said they had no records of why they had revoked my license in 2000, only that they had ? -

Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 46 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
On this particular day, she was taking me to Oxford bus station so I could catch a bus to Heathrow and as is always the case if we drive anywhere together, I drove the car there, and she drove home after dropping me off. From the stated time of the alleged offence, nor indeed from the location of the camera, we genuinely cannot tell who was driving. -
Buying a new car 22 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Mazda 2 – The dealer was very good and took me on a very good route for the test drive. The Mazda 2 was really nice to drive with the handling being excellent. The gearbox was in a great position for driving and was nice and positive. The engine was quite good but being a non-turbo didn’t really feel that fast.
