  • Hyundai 1.6 T-GDI - engine query 26 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Ideally, i'd like the car to last at least 200k, miles - do you think Hyundai is up the task? Or am I better of looking for Mazda cx-5 2.0L naturally aspirated engines.   Thanks
  • Volvo V60 - avice on changing cars 3 Aug 2021 (Forum)
ideally he wants it under 60,000 miles and a bit newer than his 2013 car. He also likes the Skoda Superb and the Skoda Octavia nd also the Mazda 6's. Our budget is under £13,00 but we could push a but more if needed. We just wondered what you all suggested out of these cars? in terms of reliability and comfort, safety etc my husband would either grade his V40 in or sell it privately.
  • Advice - 2 isofix baby seats and one adult in rear 4 Sep 2019 (Forum)
We would be looking to lease and dont want to spend more than £300 a month. I think the Citroen C5 aircross might be our best bet. I also like the Mazda CX-5 but dont know this will be big enough. Also dont think a Sportage, Kadjar, Tuscon or 3008 would suit. Does anyone have any experience with getting two baby seat in the back as well as an adult in any current SUV's?
  • MX5 intermittant misfire 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
It occurs during any weather conditions and may happen twice in a week or not happen for several weeks or even months. Our local garage, with the help of the local Mazda franchise, can offer no solution as it has never happened whilst the car is at the garage. Diagnostic testing has shown no faults. The car is serviced according to the manufacturer's requirements and has covered 58,000 miles.
  • Volvo V40 Replacement 18 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Do those in the know on this forum have an opinion on the later petrol models in the V40 against say a Mazda 3 2.0 or the 1.4 I may get in the VAG group
  • Smallish, new automatic recommendation 13 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I'd leave well alone but the remark "VW do good small automatics don't they" made me wonder. I suggested looking at a Mazda 2 - a right sized engine, no turbo, and a torque converter auto I think.  If my MX-5 with the Skyactive-G engine is anything to go by, it will also get a lot nearer to its claimed mpg figures than a TSI engine.
  • VW Passat 2.0 TDI - Sell or Fix? 7 May 2017 (Forum)
With the mileage that I'm doing I'm considering part-exchanging rather than fixing, I'd still like something with a decent size boot, e.g. mondeo/mazda size, and don't really require an estate, but now thinking if petrol is the way to go? I can't fault the MPG, I typically get 50MPG. I normally keep my cars for about 5 years, so would be looking for something that isn't going to incur major expenses (other than usual wear and tear/servicing).
  • Car/MPV with 3 kids 28 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I was looking at VW Passat estate but it seems like middle seat is pretty small. Mazda5 was the other one I was looking at but Mazda diesels don't get good reviews it seems. VW Touran is another option I believe? My budget is around £8k and I drive around 10k miles/year including 40 miles to and from work.
  • Used car under 2k 3 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Looking to buy a car that's under 2k that hopefully can fit the following criteria: under 10-12 years old  cheap to run - owned a VW Passat until now and 90% of the work on it I've done myself with parts being cheap and internet full of guides saloon/hatchback(5 doors)- definetly don't want it to be bigger size than passat 1.6 - 1.8 engine - owned only 1.9tdi engines until know and while fun I think I should go for a 1.6 to 1.8 to lower the fuel cost while not making the car feel too sluggish under 100k mileage reliable, maybe even fun to drive Am I asking for too much under 2k? I was looking at the Ford Focus, golfs and some Mazda's but I have no idea how reliable or good to run are they as a make/model. Any makes/models I should avoid in this price range?
  • Small car with a big boot 15 Sep 2016 (Forum)
If I've got the message right, Andy, you want something no bigger - ideally smaller - than your Mazda 3 but with plenty of room for luggage.  As you rightly imply, there are a lot of small cars around which can seat a family of four but haven't a hope of taking their luggage if they want to go away in the car.
  • Help choosing next car 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
.) * must be manual 'box * under £7k My initial trawls have met with mostly disdain - • Hyundai Santa Fe (too big) • Suberu Impreza (death on wheels) • Audi (she hates the badge) • Freelander (too slow, too small inside, dear to run) • Skoda Octavia / Scout (I will look like a geography teacher in the minor counties) If it were mine, I'd find a Mazda 6 MPS, or a Golf R32 - but there's the rub. Any suggestions before we give up and get a Kuga/ Tiguan *dies slightly inside* Many thanks in advance :)
  • General pros and cons of Diesel vs Petrol 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Thanks for all the help/advice Rick PS I am trying to choose between a (secondhand - about £7k - £10k to spend) Mazda5, VW Touran, and a Peugeot 307 SW - all would suit, but in order to afford a VW or Mazda, I may have to go for a petrol, and I am wondering about the hidden cost implications.
  • Family Estate - Used estate for 2-3k 16 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Having done some research,  I narrowed it down the following (although I'm open to suggestions): VW Passat Skoda Octavia Mazda 6 Toyota Avensis Honda Accord (although I think my budget would be tight)? As well as car suggestion(s),  I'd be grateful if anyone could advise as to what maximum mileage on a car I should cap my search at.
  • Honda Civic - Any thoughts on these auto hatches? 23 May 2013 (Forum)
I keep changing my mind but i think I've narrowed it down to the below, does anyone have experience of these cars? Are there any obvious contenders I've missed? 09/10 Honda Civic 1.8 (not the I-shift) 09/10 Mazda 3 2.0 TS2 09/10 Renault Megane 2.0 CVT (like the look of the coupe) The Megane comes in at the bottom end of the budget but the other 2 will probably hold their value more when it comes to selling, the Renault / Nissan CVT seems quite reliable but is it any good to drive?
  • Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord, Totyota Avensis - Corrolla, Avensis or Accord? 1 Feb 2013 (Forum)
After plenty of research both on here and on Reliabilty Index, I've pretty much narrowed down to either a Corolla, an Avensis or an Accord with the Mazda 6 as possibly a wild card. Until I move house, it will be doing around 500 miles per week, but after that will be pretty much limited to short journeys with only 1 or 2 longer 'thrashes' a month, which possibly rules out a diesel, (unless anyone can advise otherwise?)

    Mazda Mazda6 2.0L TS2 5dr Hatchback £999 2002 (52 reg), Hatchback Trade seller , distance: 166 miles 56,562 miles Manual 2.0L Petrol undecided - Out of the market for years 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Most of our miles, 5k a yr, will be A & B roads in sunny Cornwall with the very occasional moptorway blast. We intend to buy a small sports conv for fun in the sun, maybe a MGB/Vitesse, (def NOT a mazda). Are undecided and a tad confused with the diesel/petrol issue.  Looking at medium sized cars. Had a golf td yrs ago, a celica yrs ago and various crap escort company cars. Appreciatte all and any answers. ps we aint old!
  • you decide - estate or mpv or van? 3 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I travel about 5000 miles a year, surf as much as possible (maybe twice a week, boards I use are 7'3" upto 9'4"), and cut grass/tend gardens for family members which means I am constantly putting the seats down/going to the tip/moving something/standing half clothed in a car park.  Caravelle or Mercedes V class obvious choices as well as Mazda Bongo but I have managed with an estate so far but would like something more flexible.  Basically, have I missed any obvious choices (berlingo etc) Answers on a postcard. Cheers  Patrice
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 2007 1.8 - Spongy brakes 20 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Was a demonstrator with just 5.5k miles. Braking requires a very firm foot, significantly more than my previous Mazda 323 almost as if the servo has gone AWOL. Can be quite disconcerting to gently press the pedal in slow traffic and nothing happens. I've tested an emergency stop and it seems to be okay. Brake fluid level is where it should be.
  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Petrol (2004 - 2009) - Is this a good deal? 22 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Front bumper panel gap a bit big on one side if I'm being picky. Dealer offers me £300 fo my 99T Mazda 323 (85k miles), which has FSH and one previous owner but tatty bodywork, including badly rusted rear arch. Dealer said he would throw in a service, MOT, 12 month Subaru warranty, and replace the tyre.
