Pinking 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I generally run my cars on Shell V-Power or other high octane fuel, and have done so for many year. In almost every car i have driven, I have heard some pinking (at least I think its pinking), usually whilst driving at medium speed up a hill. I thought that with the advent of ECUs and higher octane fuels, pinking was a thing of the past. -

It just makes me think wether the petrol station pumps are callibrated correctly and are we getting ripped off even more with increasing fuel prices? -

LPG - Good or Bad 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I do some 15/20k per year and thought of fitting LPG to my car. Is the benifits from this low cost fuel worth the savings and what problems could be expected. If as seen suggesting running half Gas/Petrol, then might as well run a diesel with the same fuel costs per year overall as Gas/Petrol. Your Comments ?? -
Performance Diesel 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've been using Shell Diesel Extra in my Golf MK5 TDi 1.9 since i brought it. If i started using BP Ultimate Diesel would i see an even better performance/fuel burn. Is there any technical differences between the two different brands that make the one better than the other. Peoples first hand impressions after using it would be useful or is these fuel just hype? -
Tax Allowance on Cars 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have been told that if your car is used for business, it is possible to claim 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile subsequently, instead of claiming the money spent on fuel. Has anyone in the BR had any experience of this? My contact tells me that it is box 3.55 in the self-employed section of the tax return. However, I understand that fuel costs go in box 3.46 - cost of sales. -

Pump marking - BP Ultimate diesel 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Pulled into a motorway services yesterday; rolled up to the forward pump & started topping up. Then I noticed the fuel was 102.9/litre (against the 96.9 flagged at the entrance) and stopped. Anyone else been caught out by poor markings at the actual pump ? I've no problem with the fuel - definite improvements against my normal Shell (see HJ FAQ) - just the unclear marking. -
