Web & phone insurance differences 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Ended up going through Confused (as they have specific questions about au pairs, to buy from MoreThan, again with a call to check cover before buying) -
audi stalling and oil leak 11 May 2007 (Forum)
I took it to the local garage who cleaned the trottle body out and replaced the rocker cover gaskets on both sides. The car seemed to run fine after this for a short time. Also the oil leak is still present with the smell of burning oil on the exhaust and I now appear to be losing my coolant water. -
I thought SAABs were bullet proof! 8 Oct 2006 (Forum)
(headline corrected) I was looking at changing our spare estate car (T reg mondeo) that only covers about 4k a year, for something a little bit more stylish. It is used to lug stuff around but sometimes I do take it to clients (companies) as our main cars are impractical for carrying everything. -
What is dripping? 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Was picked up by the dealer and returned later in the day, cleaned, valeted etc and without costing me a penny (apart from the upfront cost of buying the car of course!). Great, but... Yesterday was the first time I'd moved it in daylight, and our new drive was covered in what appeared to be oil. I at first assumed it was engine oil, but on closer inspection the car is dripping something from all four corners (dripping from suspension behind the wheels) which doesn't feel oily itself but seems to contain grease/grime within it and this has seriously stained the drive. -
C5 Airbag 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It didn't occur to me until the weekend, but the passenger side airbag on the C5 doesn't have a airbag compartment cover like most cars. So, in the event of the airbag operating, it will ruin the top section of the dashboard, which will require replacement which, no doubt, is going to be an expensive item. Does anyone know of any other cars with this design foible? -
VW Golf poor suspension? 2 Aug 2002 (Forum)
On mine the belly pan is ripped where it covers the sump. These are treated as rep-mobiles ( ie 800-1000 miles a week - mostly motorway miles) Previous cars where a t reg 2.0LS Vectra and a r reg Peugeot 406 1.8 - (not exactly known for amazing handling.) -
Dealers that don't care? 30 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I visited a main dealer recently and couldn't believe how bad their car park was. To enter the car park you need to cross an uneven pavement, which is covered in scrapes where cars have dragged their bellies in the past. I went slowly and was ok in my car (good ground clearance), but if you had purchased something new and sporty then I'm not sure how you would get it in and out. -
Mazda CX-5 - Mazda diesel contamination 14 Mar 2024 (Forum)
We're told by Mazda that it would cost £9,000 to replace the engine! Bought the car for just under £15,000 using a personal loan to be paid over 5 years so basically we are stuck with it! We were sold an RAC warranty covering up to £2,000 towards repairs by the garage we bought it from, however our claim has been declined as they don't cover oil contamination! -

Ford Fiesta - Car Insurance in UK - living abroad query 21 Jan 2022 (Forum)
The partner who remained in the UK occasionally continues to drive the car, which is registered to his address. The policy has come up for renewal. Do they need to declare that the main policy holder now lives outside the UK? If so, will they still be able to get insurance cover? -

Alfa Romeo jts - Engine Failure on approved car 27 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, I purchased the car (24700miles) from an Alfa main dealer mid January 2010, and as with all alfas, have had a few problems - mostly minor that have been easily resolved by myself / dealer. 2 months ago (28000miles) the car was due its service and I took it to the main dealer. -
Insurance about exporting my car to Europe 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi there, Just have some questions about insurance when exporting my own car to Europe . I am about to move to Luxembourg (>12months) and want to drive my car there. Surely it is regarded as export according to DVLA. I need to get my car registered there but it is very very time consuming. -
Injured passenger in car crash with drink driver. 25 Jul 2009 (Forum)
A friend was recently in a car crash and I'm checking for some initial advice. TV advertising would suggest that I should just phone Claims 4U etc, but I'd like some reasoned advice first. The crash was in Northern Ireland, it was a hire car, the car crashed into a wall on the left side, so the driver walked away without a scratch but those on the left (front and back) had to be cut out of the car and have various broken bones. -
Running in a new yaris 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Firstly, apologies if this is covering old ground again: SWMBO's younger sister has just been bought a new Yaris GLS for her 17th and is currently learning to drive in it. The car cannot have done more than about 150 miles at the mo. -
Supervising a learner 4 Apr 2025 (Forum)
My sister is learning to drive - she's passed her theory test and is having lessons with an instructor. She is thinking of buying a car now to get more experience behind the wheel before she takes her driving test, and has asked if I would supervise her. I have never done this before, but found some very useful stuff at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/supervise-a-learner-driver The site states: "As a full licence holder, you’re in charge of the car, even when the learner is driving." -
Mercedes E220d - Camshaft warranty Mercedes E220d 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I won't hear the outcome until Monday. Does anyone know what I should expect them to cover? Just the parts or part and labour or...? Car serviced twice by a Mercedes specialist since and isn't due another service for 4000 miles. -
Jaguar S-Type - Consumer Advice Please 19 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I bought the car in August 2018, and noted that it had a new battery fitted in January 2018. It's a Lion battery, not a brand I'd have chosen, but it was on the car. A few electrical gremlins later, I've just put my meter across the battery and read 12.4V (14.65 with the alternator charging). -

Honda CR-V III - Parking sensors 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I know I can turn the whole thing off, especially with the rearview camera to help, but I like things to work on the car, however non-vital they may be. As the car's just out of guarantee - of course - I'm now facing a fairly hefty bill, although the dealer has apparently asked Honda to cover it, due to fairly low mileage and no other claims.
