  • Astravan 1.7 DTI 16V Y17DT 2001 - Error code P1125 Y17DT astravan G orange warning l 16 Oct 2020 (Forum)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ok had an eventful day today. replaced the MAF no change, replaced the boost solenoid on the back of the engine under the pump ecu, no change. The solenoid valve I fitted to the top of the engine that turned out to be the EGR valve, was in fact the rear boost lower solenoid valve, so that was a bonus. The pipe fitting on the old boost vlave must have been cracked as it came of with the pipe fairly easily.
  • 2008 Ford Focus Mk2.5 Titanium 1.8 Duratec Petrol - 08 Ford Focus 1.8 Weird Revs/Idle No Codes But S 4 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Tested the Alternator wiring as far as he could up to the main loom and there are no breaks. The alternator's 3-pin plug is getting a signal to and from the ECU too apparently. It's one of those SmartCharge things Ford is adamant is a good thing. He reconnected the alternator and the car's idle went mental, rising to 2.5K and more without touching the accelerator pedal.
  • Ford Mondeo Mk3 - Tdci - Strange overheating problem, only at speed 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
      - Coolant is not contaminated   - There is no white smoke coming from exhaust   - ECU Diagnostics confirmed that the temperature was apparently what the temp gauge was reading when it was overheating, so cant be dodgy electrical sensor.   - Cant really be the heater matrix as although it would cause only cold air, it wouldn't cause the overheating (I believe the matrix part of the cooling system junctions off from the main cooling system; so even if it was blocked, it wouldn't cause the coolant to stop flowing)   - There are no strange noises comuign from anywhere in the engine bay.
  • Subaru Impreza 2.0 - performance flatspot 21 Sep 2016 (Forum)
i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck.
  • subaru impreza 2006 2.0 R - subaru impreza 2006 2.0R engine PROBLEMS !! 19 Sep 2016 (Forum)
hi, i have a 2006 impreza 2.0 r engine . i bought the car from the previous owner in may 2015. for 1 month the car worked well. as soon as you touch the gas pedal it will shoot off, acceleration great and top speed about 190 km. as soon as i changed the rim and tyres it died. it had 16's and i put 17's, but the manual said i can make that change. it started to flat spot bad and go dead. it will crawl up small hills gas pedal to board. on flat roads as well, flat spot, dead, no acceleration. then suddenly it will take off again with a spurt but will soon die down again. on the highway 3rd and 4th gears no problems. it will fly. but it never worked again as it did the first month.i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck.when i apply brakes to stop, while slowing down i can feel the hard buck from the engine or there abouts as the car comes to a stop.i scanned the car at 6 mechanics!
  • Peugeot 106 1997 1.1 - MOT - CO 2nd fast idle, & idle speed too high 21 May 2014 (Forum)
Should I be overly concerned about the "003) Exhaust engine idle speed too high [7.3.D.2]" as Haynes says this is controlled by the ECU. Could the exhaust leak be a cause of this? (the leak is a crack about 3mm on the front exhaust pipe) My plan of action.... I have gun gummed the front pipe to stop the leak.
  • Focus 1.8 TDCi 2001 - 9318 Fault code - occasional engine stop and rough 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
On my car it appears to be attached to the intake manifold so that looks like a tricky  job but if someone can tell me it's easy enough I will do it. Replacing the CAM position sensor and updating ECU software may be a good idea. Any other ideas?  I would really like to know the root cause here -a  dirty EGR valve does seem possible expecially considering the random nature of the problems....but I really have no idea...
  • Ford Mondeo TDCI - 2006 Mondeo TDCI EGR Valve - Help Please!!! 29 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Having cleaned the valve and having had the car in with a Ford dealer for a week now, I am pulling my hair out - Ford says it can find no faults with the car.  They remapped the ECU and while the (always black) smoke is significantly less than before, it is nevertheless present, particularly on the motorway, with small depressions of the accelerator in 4th and 5th gear.  I cleaned out the existing EGR valve in accordance with all of the blogs (but not the mainfold itself) and have had the fuel filter replaced.
  • Ford Mondeo - 2001 Mondeo 2.0tddi - various/related problems? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hi, our car has recently developed a problem/ several problems that have stumped us. We've always been a bit conscious that the timing isn't quite as we'd expect it to be, ecu has been reset which solves the problem but only for a few weeks/months.  Last week the car started bunny hopping away from lights having been running fine for the past hour.  We were only a few hundred yards from home luckily.
  • 306HDi-Knocking after new fuel pump 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Oh I think this is a coincidence but think the battery was low before breakdown as the morning and evening before it was slow to turn over and the speedo/rev counter went round to 110/5000rpm on starting and all the segment of the mileage display lit up - I assume because of low voltage. I'm wondering if the low voltage as reset the ECU or anything and the car needs 're programming?' which is causing the coughing/knocking noise. Much appreicated Mike.
  • 1999 Passat Electrics, niggles 17 Sep 2004 (Forum)
On their own, these aren't particularly troublesome, but all together, I'm starting to wonder whether there might be a wider ECU, fuse, or wiring issue to be concerned about. The car is five years old and has 114k miles up, if that's relevant. Any thoughts, suggestions or solutions will be gratefully received. -- andymc Vroom, vroom - mmm, doughnuts ...
  • Calling all engineers and web whizzos? 14 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My question is: What are the long-term effects of running cars designed to use UNLEADED on leaded fuel? Either in general terms or vehicle specific. Issues to consider might be: fuel injection system, ECU control of timing, combustion temps, combustion chamber materials, spark plugs, Lambda sensor. Some vehicles have an additional sensor in the catalyst itself ? what happens when that is removed/ disconnected (apart from a dashboard light coming on)?
  • Car has serious problem - HELP! 27 Jun 2002 (Forum)
IGNITION TIMING: The engine is falsely reading high charge temperatures and retarding the timing. This could be faulty ECU, or sensors. TURBO itself. Does'nt smoke or make a noise. But it is not unknown that a turbo could be hitting the sides of the housing at certain revs, creating a flow resistance but spinning correctly at higher or lower revs.
  • FIAT Grande Punto - Fiat GPunto starting problem, glow plugs 13 May 2014 (Forum)
Checked with a garage, they found code P0683 (pre-heat error) and said in most cases it's a harmless ECU error and I should not worry unless problems develop. Drove for 2 months with no problem. Then starting became more difficult with colder weather: it took more time, there was more and more white smoke.
  • Vauxhall Corsa CDTi 05 plate - V Bad fuel consumption + minor electrical niggles 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
saved myself a couple thou).  Surely to god I would notice a leak like that.  I wondered does the ECU do anything with fuel (DH talks about the mix on his old escort when he was younger I know this is fuel v air - won't entertain cars now you can't tinker).  I wonder because I have had a series of minor and inconsistent electric blips.
  • Review Fiat Doblo 2002 JTD "the Fault-Master" 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
It then either cut out on bends or the revs dropped so low that you thought it might - letting you imagine the main bearings kissing the crank at 500 revs. That SAt Nav failed at that point followed by the main ECU packing up. The clutch switch had to be disabled to stop stalling if put into neutral while moving. "You`re driving outside it`s design parameters"  commented the dealership and I was called in and advised I should be driving properly.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 Various electrical problems 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
(Also engine service light was blinking). I then again removed the power from battery and loosened the connectors to the ECU. (Incase there was some dirt or similar there) Everything looked ok, put connectors back and tied again, after about 5s of turning the engine with the starter engine started. .******* So any ideas, Okay maybe I have 3 different problems here with my car the air condition then maybe some grounding problem and then maybe something with the anti theft protection.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.7 Diesel. Wierd fault: fuel stop / cut off so 28 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am wondering if the normal looking (as on most diesel cars of this age and older) cylindrical stop-solenoid is permanently stuck open or partially open and whether there is another solenoid (that the 3 wires go to, in the back of the pump), that stays open for at least 12-15 seconds after starting, even if you switch the ignition off again within that time. I can't think why it would need to do this, but presumably it's linked to an ecu or timer or immobiliser or something. When the normal stop-solenoid is working properly (ie closing as soon as the ignition is switched off), having the second solenoid staying open for 12-15 seconds wouldn't make any noticeable difference because the engine would just stop as expected when you switch off the ignition, due to the cylindrical one closing and cutting off the fuel.
  • MG 6 - Honda Civic - Honda Civic vs MG 6 - better value used car? 31 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Every day parts like service components could potentially still be sourced. in UK   How about more unusual components such as; ABS sensors, torque  sensors, steering rack, ECUs, body panels etc.  Is the chance that these parts need replacement so low, that they are made up by the low price of the car? 2) NCAP - 4 start rating.  Driver safety rating not top class.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa C won’t start first attempt, but will second 28 Nov 2014 (Forum)
My friend tells me that if I disconnect the battery for an hour it should reset the ecu and sensors etc, in case this is the fault, however I don’t have the code for the radio, anywhere I can get this for free or reasonably cheap atleast? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
