  • Sat Nav software updates 28 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The Connect Nav into which they used to be inserted is long gone (shudder) Opitimism perhaps, that it might still be grinding away almost nine years later..I grimace at the memory, but once paid around £300 in 2002 for European discs. Then there were the follow on Garmin, stand alone units  (in the follow on cars)  - You got one free map update on purchase - then it was back to paying for updates and the camera POI`s - though i never bothered.  Built in batteries too - and little hard drives whirring away as they covered Europe.
  • Insurance while selling a car 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, Lined up a replacement for our 10 year old Yaris and hopefully pick it up in the next few days (not local to me so arranging logistics). I plan to sell the old Yaris privately so need have the car insured still. I have a car and my wife has a car already so for a period of time (not to long hopefully) we will have 3 cars between us. I've quickly looked at short term insurance and so far the best i've been offered is £50 for 28 days cover by my current insurer (Churchill).
  • Bought car on ebay, deposit via paypal 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
He got there and it was dark (about 11pm). The seller would not let him test drive the car until the deal was done...ie all the money handed over. The money was paid and the car driven home. On arriving home the next daya few faults were discovered which were not mentioned in the ad : Dent on boot lid Stereo not working Engine Cover missing.
  • New car for mother. 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We hope to spend around 5k on this car. The car will only cover at most 6k a year so fuel economy is irrelevant. Reliability is an important criterion for the new vehicle as it will be required every weekday without fail, so no Renaults.
  • 70+mph 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I hope someone out there can help me . On the way home today I decided that I want to see how fast and how well my car handles at high speeds. Trying this out to the public highway is impossible for thereat of loosing my licene so the only option I can come to think of it a track day the problems however are: 1: My car is presently in a 1years free insurance with reanult and the insurance doesn't cover track days.
  • Buying new car before selling old car 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
However i am too young to have DOC on my insurance, and would like to avoid having to insure both cars for what is likely to be a period of around one week. Would it be legal to allow potential buyers to test-drive the car, assuming that they have their own DOC cover? Otherwise, is there any chance of my insurers cutting me a deal of say a two week overlap to enable me to sell the car?
  • Ford Focus - 2005 1.6 Engine Warning Light 25 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Could the water have caused it? Is this a common issue with this car and the previous owner was covering this up? Any ideas on how to fix it, I don't really want to go back to ford ever as they charge way more than my local garage. Many thanks!
  • How to resolve an unsatisfactory repair 9 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I've got a warranty and they agreed to pay out on a repair. At the time the only caveat I got from the repair place was that only the new parts would be covered by a warranty whereas a re-con box would get a full 12 month warranty. As I'm looking to change the car in a couple of months and its not worth a lot, I thought I'd choose the repair as it was covered by the warranty.
  • Subaru Legacy ( 2005) 2.5 Automatic - Reversing Light Relay - Which one and where to buy 2 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi everyone Reversing lights on my Legacy werent working so as the car was stil under warranty (I bought it 2ndhand from a main-dealer 8months ago) and  took it down to my local Subaru dealer. They think that the reversing light relay is not working. However seems the warranty doesn't cover diagnostic work, so they charged me £75 for the diagnostics, and then wanted £66+VAT to order the relay (also not likely to be covered by the warranty they claim).
  • Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris, which engine? 15 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hello, looking to buy a cheap reliable car. Ive just sold my car to buy a campervan due to working away a lot and I'll need a car for daily trips to the shops and to cover probably 7k of motorway miles per year ( two 90 mile trips per week)    The Toyota yaris has been banded around a lot when I've been asking people in the know.
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager XS - Will higher AH battery damage car 27 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I have a Chrysler Grand Voyager XS which is suffering from this problem covered previously on this site about eating batteries. The batteries hold their voltage but the CCA gets screwed for some reason. In my last voyager which was not a grand version I put a Bosch S4 096 which lasted until I scrapped the vehicle.
  • Car insurance - Insurance Fraud? 13 May 2016 (Forum)
Previous occupant "out of view" .. for several years, Getting lots of letters that Royal Mail insist on delivering. Received Car insurance docs and informed Insurance co that person had not lived here for several years, not really interested.. But interestingly did admit when pressed that the insurance cover would be void in the event of a claim if the person was using the address to obtain a lower premium..
  • Citroen / Peugeot - DPF Issues 3 Jan 2014 (Forum)
This appears to be exactly what the advice is not to do but I have had no issues at all. In fact I have only just been made aware that diesel cars have been fitted with DPF's. The reason I've gone for diesels when I only cover 7K mile per annum is because I need a decent sized car for the family and the diesel with lower emmisions keeps the income tax I pay on my company cars manageable.
  • Mercedes CLK 4.3 2001 - Brakes seizing 23 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The car has covered less than 1000 miles since these renewals were done. Has anyone else had a similar problem? And can suggest a solution? There are two garages would love to know what the problem was as they are baffled.
  • BMW 118d SE - Third Gear Issues - Grrrr... 22 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I'm on my second BMW 118d SE.  My current one (40k miles) was inherited after 15k miles from a colleague.  I covered 80k trouble free miles in the first vehicle. Recently and without warning I've been having problems engaging third gear.  First it baulked and needed careful handling to get the car into third gear.
  • BMW 325Ci E46 - Used car with faults - what are my legal rights? 17 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Hi there, I've just bought a used BMW from a used car dealer. It was sold with a 3 month warranty, and a 160 point 'check' which seems to cover very little, except major failures. I've found 2 faults: 1. The tracking is out on the front, so the drivers side tyre is bald on the inner shoulder, almost down to the steel, its needs replacing, as it could blow if left to wear down more.
  • 2005/05 Skoda Octavia TDI PD (Mark 2 / A5) - Induction / Resonating Noise 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The air intake unit and pipe located on front grill, and air filter box have all been changed and still noise is there.  The air pipes have been removed up to Air Flow meter and the under car engine cover have been removed to eliminate them, car, driven and again noise is still audible.  It has been suggested the intercooler but the car certainly doesnt suffer lack of power, a bit of smoke under harsh acceleration but not under normal conditions.
  • Cost of spares --- Like a wiper relay 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Went along to a spares palace today to pick up a part for my car -- £60-ish for a glove box cover. While in there another person asked for a wiper relay -- I did not manage to hear the make of his car but the spares place deals in five makes of the average type of car, not Mercs or BMW.

  • Volkswagen Polo (1981 - 1991) - 1982 1050cc Carburettor problems? 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
When somebody turns the key, you feel a suction on the palm of your hand, then i remove it quickly and the car starts...usually takes 2-3 tries. If the car has been runing within the last 8 hours, it starts without any problems. Im wondering...whats the problem, and what should be replaced? What model carburettor is in the car?
