Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.0 Engine timing 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
called the RAC he sed everything is fine the Throttle Cord is fine he thinks it might be something to do with timing? The AA came as well they said that there might be something wrong with the timing. In the Engine ECU i think that its just not sparking the Engine oil or fuel. what do i do? I looked at this post and i am thinking should i change my Spark Plugs and check out my Air Filter ? http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm? -
Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 96 2.0 Poor running, hesitation. 5 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've also removed and cleaned the throttle body as somebody suggested that this might be to blame, but to no avail. Somebody also suggested that the coil and ECU relay can cause similar symptoms when they go bad but I doubt either of those parts failing would prompt an O2 sensor error? Just to throw this in I also have an annoying resonance coming from what sounds like the exhaust midsection at about 2500 revs. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2000 2.0 110 BHP HDI Air Pollution Fault 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Car will not accelerate above 2500-3000 rpm A few seconds over run occurring after switch off. Half a tank of quality BP Premium Diesel put into tank and taken to garage for an ECU error reset as thought the error could be to do with the fuel pump change. Engine starts fine, no Air Pollution Fault, regained power (throughout rev range) and no lag & restrictions in power anymore. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 01 1.0 Erratic idle and revs,stalling,power loss 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
After fitting the AFM/TB and missing sensor the car ran ok till warm but then the symptoms started again. Called the company who supplied the part (who's company test-ECUs) and they arranged to send out the 3rd sensor at no additional cost. Next morning, replaced the sensor, warmed up the car and hey presto it runs like new again! Disconnected the battery and after reconnecting the engine management light no longer appears. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 TDCi Split pipe 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
5 weeks ago some divvy at Nationwide Autocentre sent it for a diagnostic at some diesel specialist who remapped the sensors and the ecu... Never been right since and cost me £196 - wouldn't have minded but NAC never asked me if it should be sent, they were meant to provide a £49.99 diagnostic for my extended warranty claim.... Anyway, could this be the cause of my woes? -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 1999 5.0 V8 M5 - Throttle Problems 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The fault still occurs and now they want to replace sensors on the clutch assembly, the clutch whilst it?s out and also an ECU. This is another total cost of £2500 - however they cannot guarantee this will work...and I don?t want to spend this money unless they can guarantee this will be the resolve. As you can appreciate I don? -
Mobilo experience 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
After going through all the permutations of turning this off , back on, trying to lock unlock, different ignition key (which, btw, are electronic & need to sync with the car's ECU) so on & so forth, I decided to call the Warranty/Mobilo number for Mercedes. 12:45pm So, got through on the number quickly, no queue. The chap took the car details & suggested it was better covered under the Mercedes Mobilo scheme than ApprovedWarranty - better benefits/provision etc 13:15pm The initial technician/mechanic arrived at premises about 25mins. after my call & quickly confirmed only solution was flat-bed to main dealer (about 40 miles distant) - he called up a suitable vehicle, which arrived about.... 13:45pm The car was in my garage & (being auto) left in 'park', this posed a bit of a problem as it meant the 'handbrake' was effectively on. -
VW Golf Mk3 poor pick-up from idling 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The injector itself has the correct electrical resistance as per Haynes manual. What else can I look at? Haynes doesn?t show me where to find the ECU ? where do I look (under the bonnet?), and do the symptoms suggest it might be faulty? What about the fuel pump itself ? I was wondering if the repeated switching of the fuel pump relay might have damaged it? -
406 Cambelt Gone - worth repairing? 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Turns over, sounds very "wheezy". Engine light comes on the dashboard, flickers once and stays on. (The "K" light). I hoped it was ECU or fuel pump.. Towed to Garage by Mr Boarhunt. He said "compression sounds like it's gone, 98% sure it's timing belt. I've been doing this for 16 years, buy a japanese model instead - only been to one in last 6 months (and it was a flat battery)" (This has been heavily discussed in other threads I know - just giving my tuppence worth) My possible courses of action: a. get Cam changed (£200)- sound a bit steep - 3.5h@£35 p.h. -
Legal experience sought 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
He emerged and said "nothing to do with us, we haven't touched your gearbox, it 's your bad luck" I spoke to regional manager who said they wouldn't accept responsiblity and so I explained I was taking it to a auto-box specialist. Problem was identified as a multi-function switch and transmisison ECU failure. I tried to source 2nd hand parts over the course of a few weeks but despite repeated efforts came up with nothing. I tried claiming on my insurance as accidental damage but they said it wasn't and so covered by my policy. -
1999 Omega 2.5 V6 engine rattle at 40K. 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
They cannot find a 'hard fault' with the engine, but the Omega mechanic (who I have great respect for) at the dealership has told me that it is the only Omega 2.5 V6 that he has ever heard make these noises. He acknowledges that it is not right, and guesses that the ECU mapping could be to blame, but says that on the late Omega's the mapping cannot be altered. I am further annoyed by the fact that he told me the car is overdue for a cambelt (it has now covered 44,000 miles). -
Peugeot 307 - 2 litre Petrol (2002) - Engine runs roughly 20 secs after cold start 18 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Some mechanics tell me the ECU can cut power to an injector if it detects a sticky lifter. Can anyone validate this for me? Thanks , I appreciate any feedback or advice -
Ford Focus - Ford TDCI limp mode issues 8 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I'm leaning towards it being a mechanical issue rather than anything electrical as no codes or EML. Makes me think its something the ECU thinks is working but actually isn't. Maybe a sensor generating false readings? I loathed to take to any more garages for diagnostics as I'm already nearly £400 into this and the car probably isn't worth much more than that anyway. -
Volvo XC60 60 - Engine replacement 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
He has had exactly the same experience and has been told the same story over the past two weeks about ECU problems and now a blood clot on the brain of jacks daughter. So with only one phone number, one contact, no address other than the office and 14 weeks without the car with only a “next week” promise I want to ask... what can I do legally!! -
Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 2008 - 2009 - ownership experience /issues 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
https://forum.mazda6club.com/newbie-section/258510-mazda-6-steering-rack-sensor-problem.html I understand that if you take it to Mazda, it costs £2000 for a new steering rack. But looks like ecu-testing offers a cheaper fix. 2) Passenger Airbag warning light stays on. Mazda UK attributes this problem to the over use and frequent adjustments to the passenger seats, causing the passenger seat sensor (which detects presence of a front passenger) to give problems. -

Ford Fiesta 2003 1.25 LX - EAC Fail 23 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Then when going to leave hers that evening it 'went' again and we got the AA out to it who diagnosed a bad earth somewhere and him and my dad followed me home with it dying after two miles and still when slowing down feeling like it'd stalled and then when stopped revving on it's own and shaking and juddering. So the following wednesday it goes into a garage and comes back 12 days later, ecu checked for fault (no probs), a new throttle body (second hand) and new spark plugs. All seemed well and it did over 200 miles before doing it again two days ago and yesterday. however both times a 30 second wait before turning it on again and it was fine but now my engine management light is on but it drives fine, and yesterday it was only on 1/3 journeys i made that it did it. -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 03 1.0 electrics and speedo problem 11 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I the last few days I noticed the the engine idle also suffers a slight fluctation in tandem with the speedo (Which is weird yeah???). Could this be an ECU issue???? The car can also sit stationary with the speedo reading 50mph! And its clocking miles at the same time!! Anyone got any matches???? -
Renault Clio II - Clio 1.2 16v expression toxic fume warning light 18 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So, wallet in hand, I took it to the independent garage just around the corner and as soon as I explained the problem I was told it was running on 3 cylinders and needed the coil pack replaced. Even at £150 this was a relief, but unfortunately didn't solve the problem. The ECU was then sent away for investigation as (to quote the garage report) 'losing number 1 injector signal' but came back without any faults and only need a 'couple of dry solder joints'. By this point the car was no better than if I had continued to drive it and the garage told me that they were confident that to fix the problem it would need a valve change - which would cost me in the region of £500! -
Mazda 6 TS TD 143 - Major problems with my used car, my rights? 14 May 2012 (Forum)
When it was finally done it wouldn't run on its own and after another few weeks of diagnostics it was taken to the nearest Mazda dealership who got it running by reprogramming the ECU. The car was finally running again two weeks ago. However, it had a fault code and was stuck in limitted 'limp home' mode. The fault was the cam sensor, and the independent mechanic fitted new wires and a new sensor but to no avail.
