Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 stalling whilst driving (Automatic) 5 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The vehicle has run fine for years been regularly maintained/serviced etc. I find i can start the car fine, but after several minutes of driving, the car completely cuts out. I get no warning lights, it just switches off as if you have turned the key to switch it off, the power steering disappears, and the brakes go heavy. After 30 minutes of being on the roadside, the car usually starts up again and drives. -
Motability cars and DPF filters? 23 Aug 2010 (Forum)
If the filter clogs up and can't be cleared by a long drive at high revs then it is a visit to a garage ending up with a large bill. Dealers should ask you about your driving style and recommend a petrol version if the car is only used locally. Some brochure have this warning but as a small print hidden away. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 - Undriven for 3 Months 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)

Driving for a charitable purpose? 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
To be fair to these people anything taken from over 100 people goes directly to the charities. Still, £500,000 going in expenses for people to drive round bits of India perhaps better left alone sounds alot to me. If 2000 of us on here gave £100 each less tax, just for example, the charities would end up with their money and India wouldn't be polluted by 50 old motor cars and all the support vehicles. -
Car catches fire during service. What to do? 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
She dutifully booked it back in a couple of days later to be fixed. During this repair, her car caught fire ?during the test drive? and the garage told her she needed to claim on her insurance. A subsequent phone call said it was a write off. She told them as they were driving that it was their problem and to claim on their insurance. -

rant of the week 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
My other pet hates are in no particular order VOLVO drivers, they think they own the road, are always at the front of a queue, slowest away from the lights and hog the middle lane at 65 mph flat cap wearers, often driving volvo's and drivers of "P" REG CARS, frequently Volvo drivers and wearing flat caps and those as others who've mentioned people who can't drive at night, especially in Volovs. horse boxes and obviously caravans, of course they've got the right to use the road- just not between 06.00 and 20.00, especially if driving "p "reg Volvo's whilst wearing a flat cap. and finally foreign lorry drivers, not because they're foreign purely because they come over here fully loaded with fuel, destroying our roads and contributing jack, whilst causing many an accident with their un restricted speed limitors and not being used to driving on the left hand side. -
Secret Plans To Drive On The Right In UK 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hiya A friend of a friend that works in one on the central government buildings that are responsible for 'Future Vison' have sevret plans to get britain driving on the right hand side in about 30/40 years. IMO, this is not a bad thing as it would make it earier for us to drive in the usa and our euro partners!!! It would also benefit the euro drivers that come to the uk, especially those massive lorries. -
Buying new car before selling old car 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Would it be legal to allow potential buyers to test-drive the car, assuming that they have their own DOC cover? Otherwise, is there any chance of my insurers cutting me a deal of say a two week overlap to enable me to sell the car? I haven't asked them yet, as it is likely that if i am not allowed to, i will probably allow people to test-drive anyway, which obviously i know they would frown upon. -
Awful Rattle From Rover 416 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
It also is present when driving between 50/60 mph, but weirdly dissapears over this speed, and is not audible when driving along at steady 30/40 mph...and also not audible when stood still ticking over, or even revving the engine whilst stood still. -
Driving in Spain 28 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Thanks to all of those who gave advice before I went. Had a very very nice time. Very uneventful - didn't get peeped at once and no near misses! Driving in the cities (Barcelona, tarragona, Girona) was not too bad - less 'road rage' than in the UK in fact. Coastal roads were busy (esp. since beginning of August) but driving was not too bad. The weak point is roundabouts (Spanish don't seem to indicate or necessarily use the correct lane). -
Family Car 6 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Honda - Civic - didn't like it at all, poor equipment level and too small for price - Jazz - Lovely to drive, but not quite big enough. Volkswagen - Passat 130bhp - Excellent to drive and good equipment, but no hatchback. Ford - Mondeo 130bhp - Excellent to drive and good equipment levels. Toyota - Avensis Hatch D4D - Fair to drive, excellent quality and equipment, haven't found one within price range Skoda - New Octavia 140bhp - Excellent engine and quality, favourite so far, but think it may be impossible to find a used one within price range. -
Toyota Yaris Test Drive 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The first thing my boyfriend noticed was that the front bumpers of all the cars in the showroom, and the cars outside with sold stickers on them, as yet unprepared, were 'hanging off' with comparitavely large gaps between the bumper and bodywork. Anyway I had a good test drive, from a very nice salesman. (The toyota dealer gives me the impression that they are smaller and more customer focused.) I had mixed thoughts on the car. The main problem was that the steering pulled horribly to the left, and the steering wheel was crooked when driving along a straight road. -
Driving too close ? 19 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Keeping to my new found routine of careful driving, keeping to the speed limits etc I have tried to drive "sensibly" on my way to work each morning. This includes keeping to the left where possible, maintaining a reasonable distance between me and the car in front, and keeping a relaxed attitude to the behaviour of others etc etc. -
Driving - No Insurance 29 Oct 2000 (Forum)
Let me finish by qouting a sentence handed out this week to a young NI driver in my local town. Unemployed driver, 23 years old pleaded guilty to 20, yes 20 offences of driving without insurance - banned from driving for 2 years as a longer sentence would inhibit this driver from "getting back on his feet" Or maybe I was a bit harsh in my sentencing when I was sitting....... -
Toyota Prius Import - Euro Status 10 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I am looking at a used Prius import from a garage but it doesn't flag up on any of the .gov or TFL webpages with a validated Euro class status. Does this mean that I will get pinged if I drive into a clean air zone? I like the look of the car but if it might be an issue for driving into the city' Thanks in Advance -

Painful Ankle Joints 11 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Ok, I am getting old. I find my ankle joints are getting stiff and hurt when driving over 30 minutes, especially when using the accelerator pedal. I do tend to use cruise control as a substitute but it's not intelligent and not suitable for town driving. Has anyone experienced similar and is there a solution (that doesn't involve amputation :-D )
