Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 01-12-2018 Part 1 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
What happens if and when she steps back into a manual a few years later? She'll have no instinct to brake with her right while having to engage the clutch, let alone which foot to use to brake in an emergency. A young driver should not left foot brake until manual cars are so rare as to be irrelevant (which will happen at some point) Older drivers, I agree, can benefit from left foot braking as long as they never drive a manual. -

Ford Ka 1.3l, R Reg (1998) - Ford Ka Braking Issue 25 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Hi My son has had an ongoing issue with his brakes on his Ka. He had his brake pads replaced and the guy (mechanic friend) changing them said one of his discs had worn so changed that as well. A week later he took it to Kwik Fit to fit a new back box on the exhaust and they said the n/s front wheel was red hot, he took it to another garage as he couldn't get hold of his mate, (and still can't), they had it a week and they changed the calipers and master cylinder but the brakes were still binding, they didn't know what else to do so gave it back to him with the brakes still binding and suggested he go to a Ford dealer who might be able to help but he is reluctant to do that as the costs are now mounting and cant really afford the charges. -
2009 Hyundai i30 - Puzzling noise when braking 19 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Last week my trusted independent replaced my (83000 mile) original front discs, I also asked for new wheel bearings. All was fine for a couple of days then I noticed an odd noise when braking from 20 mph or less, frequency depending on speed, sounds like some non-metallic item is catching as the right front wheel rotates. Only occurs when braking, no vibration or pulsing pedal, brakes work smoothly. -
Vaux Astra - brake pad replacement 27 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I remember a friend replacing his brake pads on a circa 1998 Vectra - simple enough job, he thought; done it on other cars in the past. But when he'd done it, he found that the brake pedal went straight to the floor, and he finished up somehow having to get his car to a garage with no brakes. -

Peugeot 205 - rear brake flexible hoses? 12 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have been advised by the MOT tester that both my daughters rear brake hoses are perishing on her 1990 1.6 auto. I thought I would do this myself as have replaced many hoses in past on front brakes, but the access to these ones seems impossible because of the rear torque tube type suspension. -
Toyota Auris (2007 - ) - Squeaky Brakes 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
When I said that I hoped that this wasn't going to be a recurring issue, I was told that many manufacturers were having similar issues due to the modern composition of brake parts. Has anyone else had similar issues? -

Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 01 2.0D Brake master cylinder problem 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Hoep somebody can help... Just changed the rear brake pads and didn't loosen the bleed nipples before pushing the pistons back but did loosen filler cap on the fluid reservoir. Now the brake pedal is firm at first but slowly sinks to the floor, so the brakes are not working. -
Autos - left foot braking query 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Was looking to buy an auto anyway. My experiences of using the left foot to brake are that you almost fly through the windscreen as your foot is used to clutch pressure. How viable is it to learn to use left foot? Anyone here brake with their left foot when driving an auto? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Screaming rear brakes 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I purchased my 04 TDCi 115 in Sept 07 and from the beginning the rear brakes would intermittantly squeal, but not under braking - if anything that stopped the problem. At it's next service in Mar 08 the local dealership advised me the discs were binding and so i had new ones fitted. -
Golf Mk3 brake unions 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I'm just about to tackle replacing the brake pipes (they are corroded) on a Mk3 Golf. Looking at the 6-way union block in front of the bulkhead where the 2-in and 4-out pipes go it appears they are all M10 brake unions as you would expect...except one. -
Mitsubishi Evo 8.Sticking rear brakes. 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
My brother-in-law has got a 53 plate Evo 8,bought from new,and went away for a short holiday last week, but before he went,he washed the car,and then parked it up in his garage, after taking it for a short spin,to dry the car,and the brakes out. He came home today, and the back brakes had locked on,(ala Vauxhall drum brakes.) and will not come off.he says it's done it before, but not this bad. Is this a common fault with this car,and is it the usual thing, where a fault develops with a vehicle, and the manufacturer keeps schtum? -
Judder under braking. Subaru Legacy. 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Over the past few months I have noticed a judder under braking, especially noticeable under slow braking, as it seems connected to wheel rotation. My local mechanic suggested new front discs and pads, as my \'97 Legacy estate had 85k miles on the original discs and he thought they may be warped. When changed, the pads still had plenty of life, and I was told that the discs could only be checked for warping on a special machine?
