Ford focus econotec diesel 2008 - Car chooses when to start - Help!! 21 Aug 2021 (Forum)
We told our mechanic and he said he checked the battery and it was fine. He now thinks the car issue could be with the instrument clusters - ECU's/PCM's (engine control module/power control module. This morning the car wouldn't (again, it started for about 10 seconds then died). So we were back to the hairdryer trick again which worked a treat. -
Peugeot 308 CC - Faulty engine control system 17 Aug 2020 (Forum)
The technician finally had a look at it yesterday and told me that its problem with the valve (might need cleaning) which is causing issue with the ECU. They contacted warranty and was told that this is not enough and they need to give more details of the issue. Now they have asked me to authorise £300 of diagnostic test (2 hrs labour to strip the engine) and have a look. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Engine System Failure on 115PS 12 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest what my be the root of this problem. I have heard it could be a speed senor, lambda senor, engine coolant senor or problem with ECU itself. I also understand that a main dealer can charge £100 or more just to plug car into diagnostics machine without actually fixing problem. What is my best plan of action?. Can someone other and/or cheaper than a main dealer access the diagnostic codes ?. -

E46 330D Touring 2001 - E46 330D Touring spluttered to a halt and now will 12 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My thinking is the P1640 Internal Control Module (ROM/RAM) Error only comes up when the engine has been cranking for some time and may be coming up due to the battery voltage dropping off and the ECU saying im not happy about this glow plug error well that aint no big thing but shouldnt stop the engine from starting. So next plan is to change high pressure pump as im fast running out of options unless anyone on here can suggest somthing to try any help would be greatly appreciated -

Vauxhal Vectra B - X18XE Missfire (no EML) 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
(but only the Mileage back light, the other lights are fine inc Headlights and the clocks other lights), Some thing i did notice is that even though you can feel the miss slightly under load when its cold its MUCH worse when its hot and all this is happening with no Engine management light on? So... I started off by checking the engine grounds,ECU ground and basically any i could find (they where cleaned and checked) next i was told that the alt overcharging can do odd things so i tested that (14.4v at 3000 rpm which i believe is ok), i thought that maybe the oil fault had returned so i pulled all the plugs (they where fine) i tested the Leads and Coil (also within spec), Checked the Compression (all even and within spec). -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 04 CDTi Easytronics gearbox problems 17 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I go to collect the car and it stops again 100meters up the road. They recover it and tell me it needs a new engine ECU at £600 plus and after fitting that they may be able to find the other fault. Having lost faith I have removed the car to my local garage where it now sits whilst they do some further tests. We keep getting a message saying that the CAN BUS cannot detect the gearbox control unit. -

Dealers fighting back against BER 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
We have also heard that some manufacturers are introducing very expensive tools to reset service indicators that connect back to the factory. The car's ECU incorporates software so that the service indicator cannot be easily reset if the interval has been exceeded by more than 500 miles. A 'special procedure' has to be applied by the dealer (at a cost I guess!) -
Spanner-How to survive your local garage 6 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Are you implying that those involved in sharp practice go to the trouble of adding resistors to the circuit, thereby fooling the climate ECU into thinking it is seeing lower temperatures than it really is? What about those vehicles that don't have climate control, maybe they are shown a vent temperature using a specially rigged thermometer? -
Peugeot 5008 1.2 PureTech - Issues After Safety Recall Check 4 Nov 2023 (Forum)
This was scheduled for 22nd August 2023. 22nd August Outcome: The diagnostic identified fault codes P15A1 and P15A8 in the ECU. Perrys suggested a partial engine strip for further investigation, estimating two hours of work, all at the same hourly rate. Concerns: Immediate Fault after Check: The serious fault appeared only a day after the recall check. -
Honda CR-V CDTi - Crank, No Start 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I don’t think it’d be the battery as the crank is strong, likewise all electrics fine except these few pre ignition lights. I’m suspecting relay, sensor, or main ECU? I was hoping someone might know more about the electronics surrounding the ignition system. my current suspicion is the main relay, but I’m just guessing. the culprit seems to be not switching on All the PGM-FI, glow plugs, Fuel Filter, ABS lights, etc. -
ANY - Helping Conscientious Drivers Avoid Speeding Fines 31 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Indeed, some degree of retrospective modification might even be considered by means of a software upgrade if all that is required is a few extra lines of code in the ECU – properly validated and tested before release of course! I imagine that this simple modification will not be widely implemented until there is sufficient public demand for it. What does the HJ Forum think of this PLEA? -
Mitsubishi FTO - dealer not helping 24 Jul 2015 (Forum)
They have since stripped the box and found it has a broken drum and various other inherant problems, they still have the car as now the ECU is causing problems also, it has been there for about 8 weeks and still no end in sight. the bill at the moment is a further £1600. I contacted the garage that sold me the car and they are refusing to help and are now saying that they sold the car to me as scrap. when i checked my receipt it does say that even though its hurridly writen and says "sold as scarp". this was not on the receipt when i signed it so must have been added before he handed it back to me inside the folder of receipts. -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi, 2001. - Occasional rough starting 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Occurs on 1 out of approx. 50 times I use the car. Occurs no more frequently now than 6 years and 60k Km back. I thought this might be a faultly ECU but maybe it is related to the starting problem? -
Ford festa - Please help new Injector seals replaced by garage. 21 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I didn't want to try and fix them myself but now I wish I did... so I dropped my car to my local garage to have the injector seals done...before it went in it drove perfect nice and nippie only a ticking noise and the smell of fual ..so they had it for the day from 8.30 and called at 6pm to say it was all done but as soon as I took it for a drive I could tell something was wrong it had no power like the turbo wasn't working ...so I took it back to the garage first thing in the morning and told them that it's feels flat and there's no power so they said oh it's ok maybe the vacuum pipe was left off ...so I left it with them went back they told me again yer it's all done it runs lovely ...but no when I dove it still no power ..so I took it strate back again they said leave it and they will have a look at it again they then said they can't find what's wrong it maybe the air flow meater so they changed that still no luck ...then they said it could be the ECG so they plated that off to try that ...but guss what still no joy so they tried diagnostics mec to find a problem but come back with no faults ...then they got another mechanic who only deals with deasel cars he looked at what they had done and said he can't see any problems with there work ..so he got he's diagnostic mec and he didn't come up with any faults..and then he said he would come back monday with a better diagnostics that can look deeper... and then they said it could be the ecu and that could be expensive to fix ..so they had the car for 4 days I got it back for this weekend as I had to go somewhere so I took it on the motorway wow it was painful not to say dangerous it just about got to 70 mph I could not overtake as there's no power I have to take it back in the morning ...monday ...for them to take a look again so I was wondering if anyone on hear has some advice for me... -
Ford Fiesta Zetec - I bought a stolen Car (Clone) what happens now? 8 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Today the vehicle is being taken to a ford garage to be plugged in and have its ECU checked. Is it certain this will identify the true VIN of the vehicle? Once they have identified its true identity they will obviously know the date stolen. I believe insurers don’t pay out for a vehicle theft to the original owners until at least 30 days - those 30 days it’s classed as TWOC (taken without consent). -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 02 2.2 DCI difficult starting 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Soon afterwards, the car became very difficult to start when warm, but absolutely fine when cold. I reasoned that maybe the same sensor was misleading the ECU? Anyway, as autumn approached these sypmtoms eased, and at the next service (non-Renault!) I asked them to replace the glowplugs. I did this because on our previous Mk3 Espace (2.2dt), this made a huge difference to starting.
