Hitting the brakes sends the revs really high, and the only way to cure it is to brake sharp, take foot off the brakes and then brake again to bring revs back to normal. I live by the sea, and my brake discs go rusty in 48 hours. The car rarely travels more than 20 miles per day, at no more than 40mph (with annuual 2000 mile round trip[s to Spain) The brakes now need replacing, as the discs are grooved.

  Hello everyone - I've got a problem and I wonder if anyone can help me out with it. I have a 1994 VW Golf Mk3 1.4CL with a recurring noise from the brakes. The problem is not when I press the brake, more when I don't or (especially) when I go round right hand turns - there is a squeal from the offside front. Not only that, but on rough surfaces, there is a loud clunking noise from the same area.

  I have a 1.9TD Xantia Estate (1996/N) which has done 126K miles without any major problems. I recently had a major service done where the front brake pads where renewed and the rear brake discs and pads where renewed. Since then there seems to be a very loud squealing noise every time I press the brakes. This doesn't matter whether the pedal pressure is light or heavy the noise only increases.
