Nice drive but prepare for maintenance costs

Bought at 24,000 and now at 52,000 miles, this car does everything I need and all the family like to drive it. Spacious, nice to drive, economical, it was going to be a keeper. That is until I got a quote for repair of timing chain and radiator. A cool £1,800 plus another £500 for brake discs and pads, so it has to go. Full service history with JCT600 main dealer every 10,000 miles and no redress. "The timing chain is a consumable" says VW customer services. I hope you don't end up buying it!
