Overall reliability

Excellent all rounder, cavernous luggage space, great in the snow many creature comforts and economical.

Bought new from a Glyn Hopkin franchised dealer in March 2009

This is my third XTrail, last were 2.2 dCi. I keep trying to find better! Interior overall good layout and attractive with leather seats. Radio and music good but no ipod connection on my model, that came after and there is no aux input, upgrading system hard with SatNav and Reversing camera part of the unit. 6 CD front loading with MP3 playback, as I get about 150 MP3 tracks on a CD music is not a problem but seeing Artist and Song title is a problem as it will only show one or the other on the way I have mine set up. Sat Nav good and junction maps excellent but no map updates readily available, no Post Code route entry available either, I still find TomTom the best way with latest updates and camera information. I see the latest Nissan set up covers this though. Blue tooth connectivity, voice dialling good and voice clarity is as good as it gets.
Back seat passengers have only reasonable leg space. High driving position excellent for road view with electric adjustments on driver seat and comfortable driving position. Huge boot space, luggage draws, curry hooks and the horizontal netting can keep luggage and shopping bags from running all over the boot, oh and the tail keeps you dry loading it.
Huge sunroof spoils you when you get in other cars. Noise in car with sunroof open during summer is quite acceptable and no howling gales.
Very comfortable ride and seats and my partner who has difficulty getting in and out of cars finds this one very good for access.
I don’t bother with the cargo cover and find the boot huge, big lumps of garden machinery plants and luggage fit with little problem and dropping the seats leaves a hole antique dealers would be proud of.
Lights, auto wipers, keyless locking, comfy and heated seats, reversing camera all make life very comfortable. Others complaints about “steering wheel volume control and on/off button for cruise control very badly positioned and one needs to take eyes off the road to locate it” I find no trouble at all, very intuitive.
Economy seems best at around 70 + dropping down to 50 makes no difference, but tyre pressures need to be kept correct for best returns and I’m getting around 47 mpg around London and Essex.
Reliability has been good with all my Xtrails and the 4x4 excellent in last winter’s snow and ice, very reassuring when others are sliding about.
My only complaint is the horn is better suited to a shopping trolley and hard to operate.
